The Revolution by Samantha Sommersby
Randell is the son of Byron and Violet Renfield, the vampire and his mate who challenged Cain’s rule of the vampire nation twenty-five years ago. During the upheaval, a baby was kidnapped from one of Ren’s people, and Sophie’s father has been looking for her ever since. Dell is sent to work with Agent Alexandria Sanchez, the latest possible match. They are to go undercover to infiltrate a Las Vegas club but find that their attraction to each other is a distraction that neither can afford.
The Revolution had me until the last page. Like the first book in the series, it was smart, funny, sexy as hell, and introduced some interesting characters whom I look forward to meeting in the next book. But there were a few things that threw me off. The twenty-five year gap between The Awakening and The Revolution seemed extreme. I wanted to see Ren and especially Violet as more than bit players, and it felt like their story was wrapped up too quickly. Violet became more of the stereotypical weak mother rather than the strong visage she portrayed previously.
I was ready to give this story 4 tombstones until the epilogue. Dell and Alex’s romance struck a cord with me, managing to be both sweet and poignant in its delivery. Then came the deal breaker: “I will always come back to you,” I told her. Then I pillowed my head against the finest pair of tits I’d ever seen and drifted off knowing that…they were mine.” That one passage set fire to the feel-good moment I’d constructed in my mind, knocking the score down to 3.5 tombstones. It isn’t much of a drop—anger-inducing ending aside, the novel was highly enjoyable—but a necessary one.
