Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz
Mimi and Jack Force rule at Duchesne, a prestigious private school in New York City. The twins, with their good looks, intelligence and ability to succeed in anything that they try, are worshipped by the rest of the student body. What Mimi wants, Mimi gets and that includes her brother’s undivided attention. There is nothing that can get in the way of these powerful siblings. Or is there?
Schuyler Van Alen is a misfit and perfectly content to be one. With her best friend, Oliver, by her side, she doesn’t want or need the popularity that Mimi Force lives for. When one of Mimi’s entourage, Aggie, is found dead, Jack approaches Schuyler and asks for her help to prove that the teenager was murdered. Schuyler is confused since Jack has never paid any attention to her before and suddenly, inexplicably, they seem drawn to one another. Mimi has never liked Schuyler, and her brother’s sudden interest in the girl makes her dislike even more intense.
There is much more going on at Duchesne than meets the eye. The Committee, an exclusive, members-only “charity” has just issued invitations to its newest recruits and Schuyler is on the list. It is here that she will discover the truth of what she really is: a “Blue Blood”. The Blue Bloods are an ancient race of vampires who achieve their immortality through a form of reincarnation. According to the Committee, nothing can kill the Blue Bloods. But the Committee is hiding things. Aggie was a Blue Blood and she is dead. It is up to Schuyler to discover who or what killed Aggie and stop it from claiming more lives.
Melissa De La Cruz has created a refreshingly unique take on Vampire mythology. One of the most wonderful things about the paranormal genre is that there are no rules. The story is only limited by the author’s imagination, and Ms. De La Cruz’s imagination seems endless. The way she ties one of history’s most famous unsolved mysteries into her plot development is genius. While trying to summarize this story without giving too much away, I don’t think that I have truly done it justice. Suffice it to say that this book is a MUST READ and that I am happily diving right back into the Blue Bloods series with Book two in the series, Masquerade.
Book Excerpt: “When the Mayflower set sail in 1620, it carried on board the men and women who would shape America. But not all the Pilgrims were pure of heart; they were not all escaping religious persecution. Indeed, some were not human: they were vampires.
In present-day New York City, Schuyler Van Alen is a sophomore at a prestigious New York private school. On her fifteenth birthday, her veins turn a bright blue and she begins to crave raw meat. Suddenly she is part of an exclusive secret society ruled by The Committee, a group of honored Blue Bloods. One of the popular girls at her school is found dead, and Schuyler decides to find out the secrets of the mysterious Blue Bloods. But is she putting herself in danger?”
