I haven’t read these, but I love mystery with my paranormal. It makes for so many more interesting solutions, like the X-Files or True Blood, even Twin Peaks. I’ve always enjoyed solving mysteries above all. Are these books particularly overtly sexual (based on title). Or is that just provocative?

I love these..all of them. Mario was actually my introdution to BBB. Felix is one of my favorite vamps. Come on he is Mexican and American and new. He is the here and now, not now and then due to his age. He may dwell on his past a bit but even that is not that long ago.

    I also love Coyote….he just is…wonderful…

I guess I just love the “Brown” men…lol

I am also really looking forward to seeing what happens with Carmen and Phaedra…..

    Mornin!

This series looks great! I have to read the review. I’ll be back!

  9. Comment by Mark Henry — November 19, 2009 @ 10:11 am

Mario promised me a “brown shower” if I showed up and commented. Now, I’m sure, I don’t know what a “brown shower” is, but if he’s talking about poo. I think we can all agree that he’s crossed the line.

I’m starting a citizen’s action committee against his Swedish poo proclivities.

Good Morning Mario and Rachel! I’m sorry to say I have not read any of your books Mario but I just read alittle bit about them on Amazon and let me tell you I’m buying them!!!! This series is right up my alley:o) I love vamps and zombies!!!! I guess since I haven’t read any of the books yet I will ask a basic question. Which of the characters is your favorite? Why?

    Thanks!

    Steph:

My favorite character is Mark Henry because he almost acts human.

And Mark knows all about brown showers. He’s got the Swedish poo chair and everything.

  15. Comment by Steph M — November 19, 2009 @ 10:43 am

    lol!!

  16. Comment by Nicole Peeler — November 19, 2009 @ 10:54 am

As someone who has many Swedish friends, and is a bit of a Scandinavianophile, let me point out that the Swedish did NOT invent the “poo chair.”

Everyone knows it was the Germans.

  17. Comment by Mark Henry — November 19, 2009 @ 10:57 am

It’s a Certified Swedish S**tting TABLE. Not CHAIR.

    Amateurs.

  18. Comment by Nicole Peeler — November 19, 2009 @ 11:03 am

But it was INVENTED by the Germans! Jesus.

    Swedophobes . . .

  19. Comment by Mario — November 19, 2009 @ 11:03 am

Yes, we are amateurs. Mark is the expert here. He knows more about poo than RotoRooter.

  22. Comment by Zombie Joe — November 19, 2009 @ 11:09 am

I can offer some comments, but the rest of the hoop-jumping will have to wait until later. It is November and there is a day job to contend with after all.

While I agree that Mark Henry is a practically human character, I think that has little to do with Mario. Personally, other than Felix my favorite so far is Coyote. Maybe I just have a thing for the eccentrics, of course that might explain why I enjoy the series as much as I do. Of course that can be attributed to author antics. (Brown showers? Really?)

I have all of the books released so far, but have only read the first two. (Again, it is November.) Personally I loved the blending of the gritty, practically noir-style detective and the paranormal. It is like an Urban Fantasy version of the Swordjockey For Hire books of Alex Bledsoe.

I am sure a question will pop up sooner or later. Coffee first, questions later.

  23. Comment by Jackie Kessler — November 19, 2009 @ 11:10 am

  24. Comment by Zombie Joe — November 19, 2009 @ 11:13 am

    I know, right?

Step 1: Create a Paranormal Review Site
Step 2: Promote the hell out of said site
Step 3: Have authors use said site to discuss their bowels and poo-flinging
    Step 4: Buy new keyboard

  25. Comment by Mario — November 19, 2009 @ 11:19 am

    Zombie Joe:

Mark wouldn’t buy a new keyboard.

  26. Comment by Mark Henry — November 19, 2009 @ 11:25 am

That’s because I don’t need to. I’m never shocked. Thus, no spit takes. And when I type LOL in exchanges, it usually means I’m sitting stone-faced staring at the computer screen.

  27. Comment by Zombie Joe — November 19, 2009 @ 11:30 am

You are such a rebel. Oh wait, no… almost everyone is sitting there stone-faced when typing LOL. If not people would be laughing like crazed idiots in front of their computers all day! Someone actually laughing out loud when typing LOL is the REAL unicorn!

  28. Comment by Mario — November 19, 2009 @ 11:31 am

Mark lies. I’ve seen him write and “research” the Internet. First he puts a shower curtain on his chair to contain spillage.

Okay, I gotta pay bills. WiIl return later.

  29. Comment by Nicole Peeler — November 19, 2009 @ 11:33 am

When I type LOL I’m tickling a donkey.

  30. Comment by Mark Henry — November 19, 2009 @ 11:38 am

  31. Comment by Amanda L — November 19, 2009 @ 11:44 am

Wow, look what I’ve already missed, I’m so behind. Sorry to say I have not read this series, but I think I’ve written that almost every day in this book discussion…so much more reading to do. Your books are on my TBR list though! Oh, and I have been known to actually laugh out loud every 20th time or so that I type LOL. Oddly enough I usually type haha if I’m laughing a lot though…not really sure why.

  33. Comment by Aymee — November 19, 2009 @ 11:59 am

    Good morning Mario and BBB!

I just adore Felix Gomez and the titles you find for your novels. My very non-reading husband picked up Nymphos for me for no other reason than he couldn’t resist the title. And then when he discovered it had vampires in it? Total instant sell. And I’ve loved him ever since for introducing me to your work.

I love the way that the paranormal blends with the mundane in this series. It all seems to fit nicely and the mystery aspect is awesome. I can’t really comment on any recurring characters because, sadly, I’ve only read Nymphos (sorry Mario). But I do know that I’d love to see a very long series. LOL

So, a question then for everyone - since I’ve only read book #1 (and have #2 in my pile), how do you think Felix’s character grows over the series of books?

Thanks for coming to visit with us today, Mario, it’s greatly appreciated.

    Boring Contest Stuffs:

#1: I commented on Felix, does that count??

    #2 & 3: Done

#4: I already have a Kindle (1st gen) so I won’t enter that one ’cause that’s just not right. LOL

#5: I RT’d for both BBB’s post and Mario’s post on Twitter, hope that counts. LOL

    #6: Done!

  35. Comment by Michele Bardsley — November 19, 2009 @ 1:07 pm

I’m German. Apparently I need to learn a little bit more about my own heritage. Or quit telling people I’m German.

Also, Nicole, I’d like my donkey back. When you asked to borrow him, I should’ve asked why…

I love the Felix Gomez series. Read every one of the books, and think they’re awesome. And since several of them contain graphic and inappropriate comments in the autographing done by Mario, I can’t sell them on eBay.

  36. Comment by Sandy G — November 19, 2009 @ 1:24 pm

I loved Nymphos of Rocky Flats - enjoyed the mixture of supernatural, mystery and humor. And you don’t see many vampires with a Mexican heritage.

I have not read this series! It’s new to me. I’m definitely adding it to my TBR list! I love these daily chats! If I haven’t read the series - it’s adding new books to my list OR bumping up books to the top of my list! I hope the daily chats continue!

I’ve enjoyed reading the comments - though I’m baffled about a certain Swedish chair I’m afraid to ask about! Some things are better left not knowing!

My question to those that have read it - I am curious what music y’all see fitting the series? Any particular band or songs come to mind??

  41. Comment by Belinda Wolf-Whitaker — November 19, 2009 @ 3:54 pm

    Hi Mario
I haven’t had the pleasure of reading any of these books, but I will they are on my TBR list. Now don’t think it’s a list of books that will never be bought or read becasue that’s not true. I have probably bought about 30 books since I joined Bitten By Books and found out about some of you authors and haven’t been disappointed yet.

I have no problem with a little mystery with my paranormal books it just adds more spice for me, I love a good mystery and am pretty good at solving puzzles (mysteries) I should have become a CSI. …LOL…

Are your books so they have to be read in order or are they were you could read anyone and understand it? I hope to buy these pretty quickly but with Christmas so close I may have to wait a couple of months.

I RSVP’d, chatted and RSVP’s with Meredith, RSVP’d for Carole Nelson Douglas, entered the Kindle contest, and voted in the poll for the vilest villain’s.

    Hi Everyone,
I really hate to say this, but I haven’t read these books. To be honest I had never heard of them, but now that I know of them I will definitely be picking them up. I have so many books now that I belong to this communty its crazy, but I will eventually read them all preferably in this life time. So tell me… What makes this series so good? Are the characters memorable? I love a book when it makes me feel like I’m right there experiencing everything the characters are. Is the series like that?

    Hi all,

    Thanks for the great comments.

For those of you not yet been bitten by Felix Gomez, here’s why you might want to get fanged.

Felix Gomez is an Iraq war vet so support the troops.

My first book, The Nymphos of Rocky Flats, is the first and only vampire book to be reviewed and declassified by the US government. True! A copy of the letter is in the front of the book.

If you like macho noir (where the good guy–my vampire–isn’t quite the Don Juan he’d like to be), kick-ass action, hard-boiled mystery, snarkiness, and plenty of supernatural weirdness then give my books a try.

And the donkey is now with me.

I haven’t read this book yet but it sounds pretty interesting. I like the perspective of a mystery focus in a paranormal/supernatural book. Some times the meld doesn’t work and it just seems like the series try too hard. But what I’m curious about this book is do you pull any personal tibits into the book? If so, what are they and if not, why not?
