I voted for those who have no chance at being redeemed like Stryker, Al, Eric and The Malinov bros… some of these guys already have changed to “good guys”. I picked King Taranis……what he has desires to do with his own flesh and blood is just ewe…. he should win for that hands down… and I picked Malone cause it was his actions that got one of my faves ……

I am just starting Jeaniene Harris’ series - so I couldn’t pick that.. I went with Eric Northman (my FAVORITE character in the Charlaine Harris series!) and “Valentine” from Cassandra Claire’s series. :)

It was difficult! so many of the other books are on my list, but I haven’t read yet! I need to read faster. I wish I could read 24/7 or develop some superspeed read power!

I was trying to think of powers/ideas for next week’s poll. I will have to get back to ya on this one! I couldn’t think of anything off the top of my head. I’ll comment again!

Can someone please tell me which series this is from?
Malone by Rachel Vincent ?? Is that the series that starts off with “Stray”?

I voted for Big Al from Kim Harrison(you have to appreciate a villain that wears green velvet) and Eric Northman from Charlaine Harris(you also have to appreciate a villain that wears turquoise and pink spandex)!!!

Sawney Beane and The Tulpa, definitely! Sawney devoured families worth of flesh. He is one scary guy! And The Tulpa! Creepy. He is the Darth Vader of our time. Makes me shiver!

I voted for King Taranis because he is really mad and evil and Malone because he is a control freak and evil as well.( And yes Libby L. the Rachel Vincent serie is the one starting by Stray.)Also, i don’t think Eric Northman is a villain.

    Coolest Power:

Anita Blake “Necromancer, Raising the dead” by LKH
Merry Gentry “The Hand of Flesh and Blood” by LKH
Jaime Vegas “Necromancer, talking with Ghost” by Kelley Armstrong
Sookie Stakhouse “Telepathy” by Charlaine Harris
Mercy Thompson “Walker, shifting into a coyote”by Patricia Briggs

    ((FOR NEXT WEEK’S POLL))
    Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon
*Final Fate* As Ash is the final fate he can alter destiny with a single word as shown when he accidentally told Nick to kill himself leading to Nick’s suicide. As a fate he can see into the future except for those who he is close to.

*God Powers* As a God Ash has all the powers you would expect from a God such as immortality and the ability to fire God Bolts. Ash can also read or erase memories, thoughts ,events and even time from others minds. He can sense the presence of others, disintegrate into nothing, and bend the physics of time and matter. The laws of science, humans know are not the laws of gods. Ash can also toss lightning bolts with a flick of a wrist. He is Omnipotent and inherently Omniscient.

Ohhh! Dreaming of writing as well as them.

Why is Eric Northman even on that list? He never was a villain in the books, just a powerful vamp who happens to be more decent than most. Even his rival Bill and Niall the fairy said he is not bad!
    I voted for Gregor.

  14. Comment by Jessica S. — November 17, 2009 @ 8:28 am

Whoo…a lot of good…err…bad villains there! It was a tough choice because a lot of the authors that I read have sinister bad guys who you just want to die or give a good swift kick in the a$$. I voted for Malone from Rachel Vincent, as many Pride members know why–or anyone who’s read the series. And then I voted for Richelle Mead’s Viktor Dashcov, he’s just plain nasty.!
And I agree with Mary above me. I didn’t see Eric as a villain either, he was just Eric. If he’s going to be on that list shouldn’t Bill be on there as well?

Malone is a nasty peice of work and in need of being shot. Or you know, torn apart by Faythe and her pride. Dashkov…he’s a twisted evil liar who really has no soul. I’d really love to see Rose take him out too. lol

    *Powers*
I am going to have to go with the CARPATHIANS from Christine Feehans dark series. They can do ANY and EVERY THING.

Of course, my picks end up on the bottom. It is pretty hard to top Sawney Beane for pure gross-out, leave a bloody path, vileness. Rob has come up with a really great nightmare. Vicki’s Tulpa is pure evil - he only exists for evilness.

  40. Comment by Kate — November 17, 2009 @ 4:48 pm

It was a tough choice for me. Gregor from Frost’s “Destined for an Early Grave” is really vile. Truly despicable. And packed a very emotional punch as well with his dastardly deeds. *sob*

But I went with Sawney from Thurman’s “Madhouse” because of all the haunting personal effects they kept finding. Whole families. That ring! He is definitely terrifying as emotionally upsetting. So he gets my vote. I probably shouldn’t put so much thought into these things.

At the time of my vote, it’s a close race w/1 vote separating 1-4 place…
1st/2nd tied between Rachel Vincent & Richelle Mead
3rd/4th tied between Karen Marie Moning & Kim Harrison

I voted for Piscary by Kim Harrison & King Taranis by Laurell K. Hamilton. Both are just evil.

    Powers…
Laurell K. Hamilton: Anita Blake “Necromancer”-raise the dead and potential power over vampires.

Charlaine Harris: Sookie Stackhouse “Telepathy”-it’s cool as long as you can focus or block it at will.

Sawney Beane is crazier than a dog in a hubcap factory and a cannibal to boot. Dude creeps me right out. … Of course all of Rob Thurman’s villains do, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Between the Auphe, the FREAKY troll and the two-headed werewolf, ole’ Sawney had a run for his money in those books.

And Valentine wins a vote for his sheer unadulterated vileness, tormenting and twisting his kids the way he did. I wanted to hit him with a brick in a very delicate place by the time the series was halfway done.

I voted for King Taranis - He is truly evil & The Malinovs because they don’t wish to be redeemed. I think Stryker may actually want to be redeemed. Al is too funny to be really evil. Piscary was a close third.

Hmmm powers. I love shifters. Maybe Max Rides wings… I’ll get back to you.

I voted for Stryker he is just the nastiest cus, no if , ands, or butts about it. the guy will do anything. Eric he can be sneaky, but he does it ya really can’t hold it against him.

For next weeks poll I wanted to pick Sherrilyn Kenyons Acheron, But somehow total destruction of the world does not sound the coolest. (Even though he uses his powers for good)

SO for the coolest Paranormal Power/Ability i pick Charlaine Harris’s Harris’s Harper Connley She was struck by lightning and now she has the ability to find corpses(in a general area) and to know the cause of death when she comes in contact with them.
she still suffers side effects from the strike, but against all odds she uses her ability to help people and make a living instead of doing nothing with her life!

Voted for Stryker because he is a Vile Villian who stoops to new lows with each installment of his character.
Voted for the Malinov Brothers because they are totally evil and vile in the worst manner they can be and with absolutely no redeeming qualities .

Coolest Power/Paranormal Ability for me would be the ability to Clone oneself as shown by Caden MacTavish in “Seduce Me In Shadow” by Shayla Black. It was handy power to have for a short time to dupe the enemy…

ok, so I voted for Piscary and Al. Now, I think Al is pretty vile, but Piscary is by far worse (IMO) because Al at least is pretty upfront and honest about what he is going to do, where Piscary had Ivy under his spell and she really was hurt by him emotionally. I am still trying to think of what pranormal ability/power I want in the next poll.
I guess Anita Blake’s reanimating powers, and of course, Keri Arthur’s Riley Jensen can shapeshift not only into a werewolf, but a seagull, plus she has the powers of being half-vamp.

Eric Northman isn’t a villian, he’s a sexy scoundrel. Eric is a bad boy, he’s mostly just naughty (wink-wink, nudge-nudge). He’s like the guy that we tell our girlfriends is hot and then the two of us giggle incontrollably because we know it’s a sin to even think about him!

When Charlaine Harris mentioned Eric last week at the Darragh Lecture UALR in Little Rock, AR, half of the women in the room simultaneously made various noises (squeals, whoops, applause, whistles, and growls) to show their appreciation. He speaks to the bad girl that lies dormant in many of us.

As the title of the poll question is, who is the “vilest” villain…

Sawney Beane. This creature has no redeeming characteristics, is not mad but purely malicious with forethought, and instant carnage with terror chaser.

All of the other villains aren’t really vile, compared to that which is done daily by a human to other humans somewhere in the world. They all have motivations and things that can be related.

    Coolest supernatural powers… hmmm.
As one of the rare guys, I would have to say that Anita Blake’s Arduer would be pretty cool. (Those of you saying “necromancer powers”… are you drawing a line between what is hers as a necromancer, and what she has sprouted since? Raising the dead and ordering them around, even in such numbers, is no big deal. Been around for ages.)

Another, possibly more serious thought, is Caliban Leandros’ ability to open portals anywhere. Yes, that’s been around too, but not as well used.

Also, Malone from RV. He was just mean and he disliked Faythe so much it made my skin crawl.

    I would nominate…

I choose Victor Dashcov from the VA series and Malone from the Shifters series. Having your own daughter turn Strigoi and plotting to kidnap little girls is pretty nasty. Eric Northman could never be vile.

Piscary and Al from Kim Harrison, though if Queen Andais from the Merry Gentry novels (LKH) were on there, I’d have voted her, too. Yikes!

I agree with Charlaine winning last week’s with her secondary characters (at least from my experience with True Blood, but I love Kim’s, too. :)

I voted for Darroc (Karen M Moning) and Piscary (Kim Harrison). Those to are pure evil. I don’t think Eric or Al are really vile - I mean vile is something you abhor and Eric and Al are more like bad boys that kinda attract in there own dangerous ways. Laurel K Hamilton’s King Taranis was a contender, but he’s personally not in the books enough (yet) to really be a prime example of vile.

There are so many good (bad?) choices it is hard to choose. These authors all do a wonderful job of giving us a villain to hate.

For me, the “best” villains are always the ones that scare the crap out of me even while their antics are such that I can’t stop turn the pages of the book! In this case, I chose Harrison’s Big Al and Saintcrow’s Lucifer mainly because both characters were very well written, evil, and they were on the list!

To be honest, I found Harrison’s female demon Nim(?) a lot scarier than Big Al despite Al’s antics with Morgan. There’s something about having a demon who’s 10x as powerful but has lost her d*mn mind and memory. She doesn’t even have to think hard and can walk through multiple circles and de-sanctify a church. That’s some scary stuff!!
