  13. Comment by Ahria — November 10, 2009 @ 5:49 pm

  14. Comment by Ahria — November 10, 2009 @ 5:53 pm

In my comment above (number 13) I meant that my vote for best secondary character was for Zeke from “Trick of the Light” by Rob Thurman.

  18. Comment by Kayleigh — November 10, 2009 @ 6:15 pm

Villain: Malone from Shifter series by Rachel Vincent.

  19. Comment by Sabina — November 10, 2009 @ 6:35 pm

Ah, this was easy. Jim Butcher out of the ones available. And out of the ones not on the list, there’s Rob Thurman (would have to pick Goodfellow, but I love almost all the characters).

  20. Comment by Van P. — November 10, 2009 @ 6:42 pm

I voted for Jeanine frost, ilona Andrews, and Patricia Briggs.
I like Spade from Jeaniene Frost’s novel, Raphael & Daley (don’t know if i spelled that right) from Ilona andrew’s novel, and Stefan from Patricia Brigg’s novel.

  21. Comment by Lingeorge — November 10, 2009 @ 6:43 pm

I really love Rob Thurman’s Robin Goodfellow character. He is so deliciously amoral. But, since I couldn’t find her of the list, I went with Carrie Vaughn’s great Cormac character and Patricia Briggs’ brooding Samuel.

  22. Comment by Amanda — November 10, 2009 @ 6:51 pm

Rob Thurman has the best secondary characters by FAR, leaving her off this list is blasphemy. Robin Goodfellow is an AMAZING character (and my favorite out of all five of her books published to date), but his cat Salome runs a close second.

  23. Comment by Caitlin U — November 10, 2009 @ 6:52 pm

I voted for Kim Harrison, Kat Richardson, and Patricia Briggs.

  24. Comment by serenitysangel — November 10, 2009 @ 6:55 pm

Had to vote for Rob Thurman’s delicious devilish Robin Goodfellow in Rob Thurman’s outstanding Cal Leandros series. What’s not to love, he’s loyal he’s amoral, wicked, funny, a tease, a flirt and can kick @$$ when required and always there to back up the Leandros brothers when trouble comes.

  25. Comment by cassy — November 10, 2009 @ 7:00 pm

    I voted
    charlene
    angie
    and kim
in that order. If i had my pick Richelle mead would have been my number one choice. for all the brilliant secondary characters in her succubus series. I’ve never fallen in love with more secondary character than i have with georgie’s gang.

    Villians, hmmm
Valentine from Cassandra Claire’s Mortal instruments.
Stryker from Sherrilyn Kenyons Dark Hunter.
Victor Dashcov Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy.

  26. Comment by Jackie Burris — November 10, 2009 @ 7:08 pm

Since myself like the other Rob Thurman fans of the Cal Leandros series did not get to pick Robin Goodfellow the mostest Puck who is a bad*** in a fight and a particularly good friend when needed had to go with the ones on the poll and picked Kim Harrison who in the little Pixie Jenks has made us laugh and cry and really root for he and his family in her Rachel Morgan series.
My 2nd pick would be for Laurell K. Hamilton and the character of Nathaniel, he is a yummy shapeshifter (and has pretty much gotten into the primary billing category in my book as his character has matured over time in the series) and one of the favorite 2ndy characters for me in the Anita Blake series.
My 3rd pick is for Katie MacAlister and the dog Jim in her Aisling Grey series, he is funny and sarcastic and a troublemaker and lots of laughs…..
    Jackie B Central Texas

  27. Comment by Julie — November 10, 2009 @ 7:23 pm

I voted for Laurell k. Hamilton, Jeaniene Frost and Charlaine Harris.

    Vilains:

LKH: Mother of all darkness or king Taranis
    Vicki Pettersson: Tulpa
    Rachel Vincent: Malone
    Jeaniene Frost: Gregor
    Anne Rice: Akasha

  28. Comment by Steph M — November 10, 2009 @ 7:30 pm

  29. Comment by Deana H. — November 10, 2009 @ 7:41 pm

    I voted for S. Kenyon.

  30. Comment by Barbara Elness — November 10, 2009 @ 7:42 pm

I chose Charlaine Harris, Kim Harrison and Jeaniene Frost.
Scary villain - Patra from Jeaniene’s At Grave’s End, evil ancient vampire.

  31. Comment by Elie N — November 10, 2009 @ 7:57 pm

    I voted for:
Kim Harrison (love Jenks and Ivy)
Charlaine Harris ( love them all)
    Patricia Briggs (another great cast)

  32. Comment by Elaine G — November 10, 2009 @ 8:08 pm

Voted for Kim Harrison,Jeaniene Frost (that’s all I’ve read on that list)

Oliver from the Morganville vampire Series by Rachel Caine
Malone from the Shifter Series by Rachel Vincent

  33. Comment by Cat — November 10, 2009 @ 8:13 pm

Hmm. While I personally would have gone with Delilah over Goodfellow with Rob Thurman’s Cal Leandros series, that was not an option. So Jim Butcher (C’mon, Thomas! The Army of the Za Lord! great stuff.), Carrie Vaughn (I think Cormac technically counts as a secondary character), and Patricia Briggs (the lawyer boyfriend… zomg…).

There are others out there, but shockingly this list made it hard to pick just 3. (Despite the glaring omission of Rob, of course.)

  34. Comment by Cat — November 10, 2009 @ 8:19 pm

    OH, forgot… best villains?

    Jim Butcher, for Marcone
    Kim Harrison, for Al
Rob Thurman, the Auphe or worse, Cal while pissed off.
Carrie Vaughn, because the Government is the enemy.

  35. Comment by Janice D. — November 10, 2009 @ 8:41 pm

Hamilton, Frost and Galenorn. Although Butcher and Harrison would have been on the list if I could have picked more than 3. Why…I’m more familiar with these authors works and always go back for more!

    Must think about the villain….

  36. Comment by Shell the Hockeyvampiress — November 10, 2009 @ 8:43 pm

Angie (Pirate), Katie(Jim) and Yasmine (Iris and Maggie)….. close 4th would have been Kim with Jenks

  37. Comment by Janice D. — November 10, 2009 @ 8:49 pm

Villian— Lucifer in the Dante Valentine series by Lilith Saintcrow.

  38. Comment by Pamk — November 10, 2009 @ 9:19 pm

I chose Jeannine Frost, Illona Andrews, and Sherrilyn Kenyon

  39. Comment by Lisa G — November 10, 2009 @ 9:39 pm

I chose Charlaine Harris- Love all her characters, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Kim Harrison.

  40. Comment by iokijo — November 10, 2009 @ 10:36 pm

    needed at least 5 votes…
    went with Kenyon,Harrison & Hamilton…

sorry the villains aren’t popping to mind.

  41. Comment by Moonsanity — November 10, 2009 @ 10:49 pm

I voted, but man, I wish Rob Thurman was on there because Goodfellow ROCKS!

Next week… how about J.R. Ward– Lash is evil. Kim Harrison- Al the demon.

  42. Comment by Alana Abbott — November 10, 2009 @ 11:17 pm

I went with Mark Henry (who *doesn’t* love Amanda’s cohorts?), and Ilona Andrews and Jeaniene Frost for the same reason — I love stories *told* from their secondary characters. Both have had really excellent contributions to anthologies, set in their worlds, but from POVs outside of the main characters.

  43. Comment by Jackie U — November 10, 2009 @ 11:24 pm

I agree with Moonsanity, Jackie B, and various other Thurman fans…::sob:: There’s no Rob Goodfellow from Rob Thurman’s series!! WHY?? WHY?? lol Sorry, it had to be done…

Best villain, eh? Cyrus from Jennifer Armintrout’s Blood Ties series, Sawney Beane from Rob Thurman’s Cal Leandros series, Eric from Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire series, and either Janx or Daisani from C. E. Murphy’s Negotiator series.

  44. Comment by Carmen_R — November 10, 2009 @ 11:33 pm

    Kim Harrison — Jenks Rules!!!!!

  45. Comment by Kelly R — November 10, 2009 @ 11:57 pm

    Robin Goodfellow by Rob Thurman

  46. Comment by Jen L. — November 11, 2009 @ 12:22 am

I could only vote for Laurell K. Hamilton since I don’t really read the other authors, and my favorite author was off the list! Rob Thurman’s Cal Leandros series has one of best secondary characters I’ve ever read. Robin Goodfellow has never failed to make me laugh… and then I reread what he said a few times just to make sure I remember it. Pretty much everything that comes out of his mouth is hilarious, twisted, perverted, or some combination of all three. What’s not to love?!

  47. Comment by Nancy W. — November 11, 2009 @ 1:34 am

Too many good choices. Ultimately went with Kim Harrison (Jenks), Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake series: Nathaniel, Jean-Claude, Jason + many more), and Jeaniene Frost (Tate Bradley & Spade).

Could have went with Sherrilyn Kenyon but some of her secondary characters get their own book later on.

    Villains:
Laurell K Hamilton: Queen Andais or King Taranis in Merry Gentry series.
    Kim Harrison: Demon nicknamed Al
Charlaine Harris: Eric (but is he really that bad)

  48. Comment by Koren Cota — November 11, 2009 @ 3:47 am

need to narrow it down from lucky number 13 to 3…ouch

  49. Comment by Claire — November 11, 2009 @ 6:33 am

I’ve voted! Villan wise it’s gotta be either the Tulpa from Vicki Pettersson’s signs of the zodiac or the bad guy whose name I can’t remember from Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs.

  50. Comment by Kimberly H. — November 11, 2009 @ 6:54 am

    Voted for Charlaine Harris!

For the best villian I’m going to go with Malone from Rachel Vincent’s Shifter Series.

  51. Comment by Rebecca M. — November 11, 2009 @ 8:04 am

I voted for Charlaine Harris, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and Katie MacAlister. Dems my girls (lol).

    Thanks,
    Rebecca

  52. Comment by Sandy G — November 11, 2009 @ 8:43 am

For villians I have to second Lucifer from Lilith Saintcrow’s Dante Valentine series
Also Queen Mab from Jim butcher’s Harry Dresden series

  53. Comment by Heather C — November 11, 2009 @ 10:12 am

I went with Kim Harrison - I love Jenks & Ivy!!! LKH - there are too many good characters to choose from, I’m not sure where to begin. Angie Fox - how can you not love Pirate…crazy talking jack russell!!!

For villian - I have to go with Picary from Kim Harrison’s Hollows series.

  54. Comment by Heidi Shafer — November 11, 2009 @ 10:41 am

    I picked P Briggs
    M Bardsley
    C. Harris
They all have 2nd characters that are great.

You get three votes, so vote for me, vote for Mark, and one of those other authors (whom you’ve probably never heard of … snerk). Vote here. [...]

  56. Comment by MamaDog — November 11, 2009 @ 11:25 am

Michele Bardsley rocks! Why aren’t more people voting for her???

  57. Comment by Lisa D. — November 11, 2009 @ 11:46 am

I voted for Harrison, Kenyon, and Hamiliton.

  58. Comment by Lia — November 11, 2009 @ 11:49 am

Rob Thurman’s Goodfellow from the Cal Leandros series^^

  59. Comment by Jan van Es — November 11, 2009 @ 12:14 pm

totally Yasmine Galenorn as the best secondary characters, then Jeaniene Frost (Juan!) and then Carrie Vaughn!

  60. Comment by Faerydreamer/Dianne B. — November 11, 2009 @ 12:21 pm

It is so hard to choose! I went with Yasmine because of Smokey! Gotta love a dragon.

  61. Comment by Adrianne Brennan — November 11, 2009 @ 12:36 pm

I’m going with Yasmine Galenorn also because of Smokey, who turned me on to dragon-shifters. Go Smokey! :D

  62. Comment by Raelena P — November 11, 2009 @ 12:58 pm

I voted for Kenyon. I can’t think of villains right now…I will have to get back to you on that one.

  63. Comment by parisindy — November 11, 2009 @ 1:07 pm

Rob thurman and jim butcher get my votes

  64. Comment by Shartyrant — November 11, 2009 @ 1:19 pm

Robin Goodfellow for Rob Thurman. Yes, I know he isn’t on the list, but how can one resist a Puck?

Otherwise, as much as I have lost interest in the series, I would say Jenks is the other one from Kim Harrison’s Hollow series. Then Bob (the skull) from Jim Butcher’s Dresden series because a talking-addicted-addicted-to-romance-books-possessed skull just rocks my socks off. Then I had to go with Simi from Kenyon’s Dark-hunter books. A shopping demon literally! With her barbecue sauce! Totally fun and badass.

  65. Comment by Nancy Gilliland — November 11, 2009 @ 1:22 pm

I wet with Kim Harrison (Jenks) Jeanienne Frost (Juan) and LKH (although neither Anita’s nor Merry’s men could really be called secondary)

  66. Comment by Bea Chan — November 11, 2009 @ 1:28 pm

Had to vote for Mark Henry (love Gil), Michele Bardsley and Jeanine Frost

  67. Comment by Sabine Wittrock — November 11, 2009 @ 1:39 pm

Villain suggestion: Darroc aka The Lord Master from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series!

  68. Comment by Angela — November 11, 2009 @ 2:39 pm

Rob Thurman totally needs to be on this list. Her secondary character Robin Goodfellow is fabulous.

And Thomas Wraith from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

  69. Comment by Kim Fetzer — November 11, 2009 @ 2:44 pm

    Voted!!

    Here’s my picks:
    Charlaine Harris
    Laurell K. Hamilton
    Kim Harrison

  70. Comment by Michaela — November 11, 2009 @ 2:57 pm

It’s a shame Rob Thurman isn’t listed as I would have voted 100% for Robin Goodfellow. He’s one of the best secondary characters I’ve come across and has become a favourite of mine in the Cal Leandros series of books.

  71. Comment by Lisa W — November 11, 2009 @ 3:14 pm

My first choice was Charlaine Harris. My favorite secondary character of hers is Manfred from the Harper Connelly Mystery series. I also adore Pam from her Southern Vampires series.

  72. Comment by Claire M — November 11, 2009 @ 3:39 pm

My choices were Patricia Briggs because I completely love Warren and Ben in the Mercy Thompson series. Ben in particular, so much depth and awesomeness for a secondary character. And Ilona Andrews because I love Derek and Andrea in particular, although there are many other great secondary characters in the Kate Daniels series too. One of my other favourites, who’s not in the poll but I want to mention anyway, is Jace from Rachel Vincent’s Shifters series. He’s amazing and I think we’re going to get even more greatness from him in the next two books.

  73. Comment by Pam Brizendine — November 11, 2009 @ 4:41 pm

    Kim Harrison
    Jeaniene Frost
    Angie Fox

Its so hard to just pick 3 I needed 11, I love a lot of those Authors!. I did it but it was HARD!

    villains:
    Rachel Vincent ~ Malone
    Jeaniene Frost’s ~ Gregor
    Rachel Caine’s ~ Bishop

  74. Comment by Sarah — November 11, 2009 @ 4:44 pm

I chose Carrie Vaughn, Charlene Harris and Patricia Briggs. I really love the Kitty series.

  75. Comment by Susan Lathen — November 11, 2009 @ 5:49 pm

Robin Goodfellow hands down everyone beats all those other choices!

  76. Comment by Carol Beth — November 11, 2009 @ 5:52 pm

Two of the authors I voted for, I did so because they do a good job of taking secondary characters from one book(where they supported the story well) and later gave them their own story.

As for villains, there’s Magus from Deborah Cooke’s Pyr books and Lash and Omega from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. All one’s I love to hate.

  77. Comment by Brenda — November 11, 2009 @ 6:19 pm

I have not read a paranormal fiction by one of the authors on the list as I have just discovered the paranormal. I did read “Heart of a Warrior” by E.R. Mitchell??? at textnovel.com. I have enjoyed reading this and have another email of chapters I still have to read. Pandora and Phil are batteling the “Silvers”.
I voted for you, Mark Henry and Charlaine Harris just by what others have written. So far I have liked what I have read and I am looking forward to delving into the Paranormal world…Thanks

  78. Comment by Dave — November 11, 2009 @ 6:27 pm

    Rob Thurman: Robin Goodfellow/Ishiah.

  79. Comment by Cyd J — November 11, 2009 @ 6:44 pm

I voted for Fox, Butcher, Kenyon.

For the Villains my nominees are Molly Harper’s character Adam Morrow from Nice Girls Don’t series or JR Ward’s character Devina from the Fallen Angels series .

  80. Comment by Nicki — November 11, 2009 @ 6:49 pm

I’m not sure if he counts as a villian yet but I LOVE Roman from Richelle Mead’s Succubus Blues series…

  81. Comment by Delania — November 11, 2009 @ 7:24 pm

Kim Harrison -Jenks, Ivy & Kisten =(
Jim Butcher - Karrin Murphy, Thomas & Bob lol.
    Charlaine Harris- Everybody =)

umm have to think about the villains

  82. Comment by cking1 — November 11, 2009 @ 7:25 pm

Rob Thurman’s Zeke from “Trick of the Light” must be one of the most intriguing secondary characters of all time. His personality while completely unbelievable is made easy to believe by her superb writing. Readers will find themselves at times wishing that he were the star of his own series. To craft a secondary character who is as intense as Zeke, and to do so with such skill, is a rare trait among authors.

  83. Comment by Lynda — November 11, 2009 @ 7:26 pm

My vote is for Michele Bardsley and it’s too hard to pick just one of her secondary’s so I will have to say all of them. She brings them all to life or death, not sure how to put it, she just brings them!!! Best of luck Michele!

  84. Comment by Jaime — November 11, 2009 @ 8:29 pm

Rob Thurman all the way! Favorite character? Zeke, from “Trick of Light.” But all her characters are so amazingly constructed that they all deserve some lovin’!

I voted for Yasmine Galenorn, Patricia Briggs, and Charlaine Harris I would have voted for Sherrilyn Kenyon too but a lot of her secondary characters endup with their own book although I love Simi.

Villians would be stryker - Sherrilyn Kenyon, the Malinov Brothers - Christine Feehan,

  88. Comment by Tiah B — November 12, 2009 @ 12:14 am

I voted for Kim, Patricia and Charlaine. They all have secondary characters that I end up liking just as much as the main ones.

Jeanine Frost-Vlad, Ian and Spade are my favorite.
Kim Harrison-I love Trent, and Quen.
Patricia Briggs-Ben and Warren, love them.

  91. Comment by GB — November 12, 2009 @ 5:41 am

I voted for Carrie Vaughn and Ilona Andrews. My third vote was withheld as there wasn’t an entry for Rob Thurman. Goodfellow and Promise have so many layers hinted at in the Cal Leandros books, they could easily get their own novels.

  92. Comment by Lisa B. — November 12, 2009 @ 7:45 am

Definitely Charlaine Harris. Also Patricia Briggs and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

  93. Comment by Susan Blexrud — November 12, 2009 @ 11:01 am

I went with Charleine, with all of her secondary characters,Kat Richardson, with her helpers and knowers of all things gray; and with Jeanine Frost and the marriage.

Wow 3 of my top Authors in the polls. Thanks BBB
(i have alot of top Authors. lol)
    I voted For:
    Charlaine Harris
    Sherrilyn Kenyon
    Laurell K. Hamilton

My favorite Secondary character of Charlaine Harris’s is a toss up between Jack and Eric I think I am going to go with Eric since Jack was not in all the Lily Bard books, ( Lily and Jack did make an apperance at Merlotts) Eric is Mr. Tough guy (The Law), but Sookie always finds a way to keep him on his toes. And He does not like that. So he spends alot of time confused in his feelings.
My favorite Secondary Character of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s would have to be Simi she is so funny and deadly.she also has Ash rapped around her finger. Everyone loves Simi!!!
My favorite Secondary Character of Laurell K. Hamilton’s would be
Jean-Claude the poor guy! It took forever and went through so much to get with Anita, If those two can make it work then thier is hope for everyone!

My favorite Vilest Villian would have to be Stryker in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter Series.. He’s a nasty cus!!!!! Love to hate him!

I chose Yasmine Galenorn, Yasmine Galenorn and Charlaine Harris in order of preference. Biker Witches? Sounds like I need to read me some Angie Fox ;)

I really wish Nalini Singh, Karen Marie Moning and CE Murphy was in this list too; I’m completely infatuated with the secondary characters (although, Nalini and KMM has also dedicated some novellas and other reads to those ’secondary’ characters, lol.

Hm.. Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Jennifer Rardin,
As for villian hm.. I liked the demon Al in Kim Harrison’s books, Or Eric from Charlaine Harris but I don’t know if he’s considered a villain? Or Edward Samos from Jennifer Rardins books.

I voted for Charlaine Harris, LK Hamilton and Jeaniene Frost.

As for the villain, what about Master Roze Featherstone from Maria V. Snyder’s Study series?

  107. Comment by Mina — November 13, 2009 @ 7:56 pm

For the Villian I think Valentine from Cassandra Clare is pretty horrible. I mean, who kills their first born baby??

  108. Comment by Mina — November 13, 2009 @ 8:23 pm

  109. Comment by Kimberly S — November 14, 2009 @ 10:46 am

Wow - I could have voted for almost all of them! I picked Jim Butcher, Yasmine Galenorn and Kim Harrison.

Villain - Al the demon from Kim Harrison is my favorite
Victor from Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy

I voted when this first went up - but I couldn’t find my comment! If this does end up being a double-comment — I apologize! :)

I voted for Charlaine Harris - LOVE her Southern Vamp series! & Jeaniene Frost (I just started her series - I haven’t read many of the nominees yet) My 3rd pick is Jim Butcher :)

  111. Comment by Cathy R. — November 15, 2009 @ 12:43 am

My votes go to Charlaine = Eric, Katie Mac = each book has a different set of kookie characters, Sherrily - Simi
And for vilest villain: The Brethern in Lynn Viehl’s Darkyn Series

  112. Comment by Lisa M. — November 16, 2009 @ 9:50 am

I want to nominate Eric Northman for best villian (Charlaine Harris) but I lvoe him too much to really consider him a villain. However, I think he will make the poll. Also, I think I might have already said so, but Piscary or Trent Kalamack from Kim Harrison’s hollow’s series.
