Release Party, Chat and Contest with Author Lori Handeland

Two Heroes for the Price of One!

I’ve been asked many times why I decided to write an urban fantasy series. (Not that I’ve stopped writing my paranormal romance series The Nightcreature Novels! I just began writing a new book for that series this week!)

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s my Angel/Spike, Jean-Claude/Richard, Edward/Jacob fascination. What is it about two hot supernatural males vying for the heroine that intrigues me? I’m not quite sure, but I keep exploring it book after book and loving it.

In my urban fantasy series, The Phoenix Chronicles, the heroine Liz Phoenix is torn between two men–Jimmy Sanducci, her first love, who just happens to be a dhampir (half-vampire, half-human) and Sawyer, the Navajo shapeshifting shaman who is her mentor. Book by book we discover parts of each man’s past, hidden secrets, insights into their character right along with Liz.

In Book #1, Any Given Doomsday, Jimmy went bad and Liz had to bring him back from the brink. Poor man, now he’s all gorgeous AND broody.

In Book #2, Doomsday Can Wait, Liz and Sawyer go on the road trip from Hell and confront an ancient Navajo evil spirit, who just happens to be Sawyer’s mother. Sawyer is far from broody. He’s clever, sarcastic and extremely powerful. Liz doesn’t want to want him, but she just can’t help it.

In Book #3, Apocalypse Happens - released November 3!!-all Hell breaks loose. Again. Liz must ask for the help of both the men in her life to fight an evil that has returned from her past.
Liz never knew her mother, but she’s about to. And she is one nasty bi&%$!

Do you enjoy books, movies, TV shows with more than one hero? What do you think is the appeal? Which is your favorite hero duo?

Hi Lori! This is Carol, your moderator. :) It’s great to ahve you with us again.

I do enjoy the two heroes approach, as long as they both have redeeming qualities, but I don’t always care for the literal triangles in the relationships themselves.

It is hard to surpass Spike/Angel, if you ask me. :)

Hi Lori!!! I love love love your books! I got hooked on your Moon series after my daughter picked Blue Moon up for me at a library book sale. After that I had to read them all. I should have read slower though, so awful when I finished the last one.

I am now hooked on your new series. I love the characters and as always, your writting draws me in & doesn’t let go until I turn the last page. I am picking up your latest tonight after work.

Will there be any more in the moon series?

I’m really excited that your going to be doing more Nightcreature novels and excited about Apocolypse Happens. My question about the Pheonix Chronicles has to do with the additional powers that Liz is picking up. Will she be doing more of her dream travelling? Will all of the powers that she is picking up be permanent?

I commented on the BBB link under chats, don’t know where the haydiddle I am anymore! I just found this site two days ago!

I LOVE your new series Lori. I really like the two yummy “men” that make up Liz’ interests, wanted or not. It comes together for me very well. I’m partial to Sawyer myself. I think Liz & Jimmy have to much history. But, I wouldn’t cry if they ended up for keeps.

    I am liking the Edward/Jacob struggle. Vampire & Werewolf…

Moning has a similar thing going on that is great. In her Fever series, Barrons & geesh, the Fey hottie. Cannot remember his name…

I do agree with Carol, they can be baddies, but they need to have redeeming qualities, or it’s great sex…but no contest.

I think you are fantastic Lori & love all of your books. Will you have any more in the Moon series??.. Tina Marie Spicer

Hi Lori, I really like your Nightcreature Novels but I’m sorry to say that I haven’t read them all yet i have this bad habbit of reading books in order and if I don’t have the next book in a series I go on to a new book and by the time I have the next novel for the previous series I forget everythimg I read. So I have to start the series over again.

Haven’t read the Phoenix chronicles yet but I have an autographed copy of the first one so I’ll try and start this series soon.

    Keep up the great work!

Hi, Carol!! Hope you had a good time at DragonCon this year.

There will be more books in the Nightcreature series, TMarie. I just sold two more. The first MARKED BY THE MOON will be out in Nov. 2010.

Let’s see, Steph. The hardest part of being a writer is that the book is ALWAYS there. Because I work at home it’s hard to distance myself.
And the best part of being a writer is the readers. I love talking to them in forums like this. It’s so exciting for us cave dwellers who rarely get out in the light. LOL!

My favorite part of a book is both the end and the beginning, Alicia. I enjoy starting with new people and new places. But I also get a real rush when I type “the end” and know I’ve managed to fill 400 pages at least one more time.

Medieval-I’ve always love urban fantasy and really wanted to try my hand. I was doing research for another book a while back and came upon the tale of the fallen angels and thought it would be a great background for a series.

Elaine-My favorite paranormal/uf authors are Laurell K Hamilton, Patricia Briggs and Rachel Caine

  29. Comment by Moonsanity — November 2, 2009 @ 1:44 pm

My favorite hero duo would have to be Spike and Angel. I just got out the DVDs for Buffy Season 6 this weekend. It’s a Spike Fest!

Do you have a strict writing schedule each day? Or does it change?

  30. Comment by Delilah — November 2, 2009 @ 1:45 pm

    Hi Lori!

I’ve been a fan of your Night Creature series since finding them at a library book sale, now I watch for each new release and preorder it. Then I found the Federation series and I’ll be honest I wanted more Night Creature and didn’t want to like the series but darn it I found myself waiting impatiently for each new installment!

  31. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 2, 2009 @ 1:46 pm

Heather-I’ve always been fascinated with spooky stuff. My mom says it’s because my dad used to let me watch Twilight Zone when I was 2!

Hi, Michele–It wasn’t hard to switch gears for me. I guess I was lucky. The two series are very different in their set up so I was able to move between them fairly easily.

Maria–Liz does do more dreamwalking in successive books. So far her powers are permanent, but you never know what may come up in the future!

  32. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 2, 2009 @ 1:49 pm

Hi, Lisa–so far I haven’t found a favorite between either series. I love them both. I’ll also be branching out in June with a book called Shakespeare Undead–How did Shakespeare write all those plays? Considering he’s a vampire he had plenty of time!

I don’t have a soundtrack, Rachel. I need complete quiet to work. I’ve always wished I could listen to music and write but I just can’t.

I write 5 days a week, Moonsanity, from about 8-3. Then, if I’m behind, I will write during the morning on the weekends.

  33. Comment by kimberly S — November 2, 2009 @ 1:51 pm

I have to say that I love having two heroes! I really loved the Spike/Angel thing on Buffy and Angel. I like books were there are two guys to pick from. It seems real to me as that has happened in my own life. We always want to see who is picked and if we would have picked the same person.

    I RSVPed

Multiple heros give you the chance to deal with their interpersonal relationships as well as the actual problem at hand. Actually my favorite multiple hero ongoing relationships are found in the NCIS television series. The mysteries they solve are interesting, but it is the ongoing personal interactions that keep me coming back week after week. It is also what gets me following book series to see how they develop, like in Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld series. Watching the characters develop their relationships is what has me waiting “with bated breath” for the next installment.

    Lori,

I’m with you on the whole two-hot-guys-competing-for-the-heroine sort of storyline. Something about which will be chosen always peeks my interests. I haven’t had the opportunity to read any of your books yet, but they are in my TBR pile.

    5 and 7, Done!

    And I also RSVPed

My question is…Did the books you read as a child affect your writing style? What was your favorite book from when you were little?

Lori - I have read most of the Night Creature novels. And have started getting the Doomsday books, they look great.

I am in a book club called Blood Lust at a bookstore called Sherlocks in Lebanon, TN (about 30 miles east of Nashville). We try to get the authors of the books we read to come in for a signing. It would be great to have you come.

Glad to see you are writing more Night Creature novels, have to get busy and read the 2 I have not read yet.

Thanks for writing the books you do.

    Hi Lori
You said you stopped writting paranormal romance and started writting urban fantasy do you think you will go back to writting paranomal romances once in a while? I love your paranormal romances, I’m sure the urban fatasy’s are great too and I will find out as soon as I can get your books.
I know I sent an RSVP, I’ve subscribed to bitten by books, and have joined the blood bank. I’m not sure if I’ve added you to my facebook but will check tonight at work where I have access. I’ve also voted and left a comment.

Had forgotten about the Eric/Bill/Sookie triangle. I’m starting to love Eric.

My favorite book as a child, Patti, was Little House on the Prairie. I did start out writing westerns.

Hi, Bea–I write daily from about 8-3. Stop for lunch and a job half way through. That usually wakes me up and gets me going again.

If I get down in your direction I’d love to do a signing, Sandy.

I’m writing paranormal romance right now, Belinda. The next Nightcreature Novel is titled MARKED BY THE MOON and will be out next November.

    Let’s see three wishes . . . That’s tough.
    1. Health and happiness for my family
2.Book contracts for me until the day I pass on.
    3. A spot on the NY Times for every book I write from now on.

    Hi Lori!

We have chatted a few times on FB through status comments and you have always been kind and put a smile on my face just by answering! It’s always nice to know that you take time out of your busy schedule to answer your fans! I am a huge Night Creature fan! My favorite is Rising Moon, I just love Anne and John and of course the fact that it’s based in the heart of New Orleans makes it just perfect. I have not been myself, but someday hope to make the trip when my boys are older! I’m so excited for the new release in 2010…but that is just so VERY FAR AWAY! How will I ever survive!?! As soon as I get Apocolypse Happens on Thursday (pay day for me - hehe!) I am going to start the Phoenix Chronicles! I guess I don’t really have a question, I just love your writing and you answered my Night Creature question already HAHA! I look forward to many more adventures with you! Thank you for being here!

I RSVP’d, I follow both Twitter pages for Lori, I follow BBB on Twitter, I have also been a “friend” of Lori’s and BBB’s on FB for quite some time, so I don’t have a proof of “friendship” any more. I am also friends with BBB on Good Reads. Voted in the poll and commented.

Hi, Lori! I just got started on your Nightcreature series. Blue Moon was fantastic! I loved Jessie’s character - smart, strong & sassy. And, of course I loved Will. What a man!! I don’t want to give away spoilers, so I will just say that your werewolves’ history (their original creation), is so interesting, unique and tragic. I am looking forward to reading more, including The Phoenix Chronicles. Congratulations on your new release!

Hi Lori! I have all the Moon books, and the Phoenix books as well. I love these worlds you have created. I was delighted to hear that Edward and co. are making at least a couple more appearances. Which is harder for you to write-Edwaed and co. in contemporary times or Phoenix in a slightly altered world? I love them both.

Well now I am doomed. Since moving into the condo I have to limit books due to space. The two loopholes I have are signed books and local authors…

After having the friend request approved I saw a comment about the Packers/Vikings game and saw you are from Milwaukee, thus making you a local author. Just so you know, when my wife gives me “that look” I am totally blaming you, Lori. ;)

  55. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 2, 2009 @ 3:03 pm

I enjoy both series, Nancy. My only trouble is sometimes keeping the werewolf rules all straight between worlds!

I’m team Edward, Mindy. I even bought a shirt. :)) I think in UF what I enjoy most is the feeling that everyone is right on the edge and can slip any time into evil or total disaster. It’s hard to know who to trust in UF because everyone is walking that line.

    Sorry, Joe!! LOL!!

  58. Comment by Jillian S. — November 2, 2009 @ 3:25 pm

    Hi Lori!
    Thanks for sharing with us!
To answer your question, I LOVE movies/shows/books with multiple heroes! I loved Prison Break (before the disaster that was season 4) for Michael and Linc! I think having more than one hero appeals because the characters can balance each other out. To overload on Prison Break references, Michael and Linc were a great team because Michael was so smart and rational, while Linc was tough and spontaneous. I love Michael so much, but sometimes I wanted him to just snap and punch someone in the face–luckily, Linc was usually there to do it.
My question for you is why do think vampires, werewolves, etc. are so appealing? Because, when you think about it, they could pretty much suck your blood or tear you into tiny pieces really easily. Or do you think the danger is part of the appeal?

Fond greetings and welcome to Bittenbybooks! Just gotta say, that I absolutely LOVE your Moon series. I have the first three signed (won it a long while ago; I think AuthorIsland) but I have the rest in the series. I love how you ventured to Native American, to Voodoo, and then to Romanian (Gypsy) lore. Especially love your tough-as-nails, independent type heroines! Jessie and Grace are my favorite heroines of yours. You are an autobuy for me.

Friend has the second book in your Doomsday for me which she hasn’t sent down yet. I even have an old title of yours: Full Moon Dreams.

I’ve been curious about one thing. Why did you choose to call the ops Jager-sucher. Why Germany? And do you speak it or had to research for it? Hehe, I took two years in german but had no clue what it meant.

Jillian-I think you hit it right on the head. At least for me, the appeal of Vamps and wws is that they are so dangerous.

  81. Comment by Elisa J — November 2, 2009 @ 5:13 pm

    Lori,

I *love* the idea of two men fighting over me! Where can I get those? :) Seriously though, having the opportunity to explore the inner workings of two complex men alongside the heroine is definitely more enjoyable than one. I’m a people watcher and it’s always fascinating to see how people react to one another. Do you ever root for one of the guys over the other, before having one of them change your mind? I think that would happen to me all the time!

My favorite author as a child was Laura Ingalls Wilder.

I did not dress up for Halloween this year. Bummer.

I’ve always been interested in the paranormal, Tamara. The earliest books I remember reading that were similar were Victoria Holt gothics and then I went on to Stephen King.

  84. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 2, 2009 @ 5:24 pm

Usually, Caden, I prefer whatever I’m writing at the time, until I hit a problem, then I prefer the OTHER kind. As in, why did I think I wanted to write another series. Aaargh! But it all works out eventually.

You remember right, Lisa. Two more NC novels are on their way just as soon as I write them.

The Phoenix Chronicles are open ended right now, Raine. So far there are 4 books written with one more contracted.

  85. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 2, 2009 @ 5:27 pm

April–some of my favorite characters are Jessie from Blue Moon. I also really enjoyed the voodoo priestess Cassandra from Midnight Moon. And of course I love Liz. I pretty much adore all the men. :)

My personal favorite trio would have to be Jimmy/Sawyer/Liz. But I’m also partial to Ranger/Joe/Stephanie.

I have not yet tried a YA, Beth. Perhaps in the future.

Most writers I know are introverts. All that cave dwelling. I love it in my cave.

  86. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 2, 2009 @ 5:27 pm

Yes, Elisa, that happens all the time. I started out loving Jimmy, switched to Sawyer and now I have no idea. I’m as mixed up as Liz!

  87. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 2, 2009 @ 5:29 pm

Shawna-The love scenes just seem to follow the characters and what’s happening in their lives at the time. Depending on who I’m dealing with, different situations just happen.

Hi Lori!! Okay… so I’ll admit it. I’ve never read a single book of yours. But I’ve had plenty of friends tell me how awesome they are. After reading this, I think it’s about time I pulled my finger out and listened to my pals. Why’d I ever doubt them? This series sounds awesome :O)

Thanks, Rachel, for organizing this event. I just added MORE books to my to-read list. Will my ‘wants’ ever end? LOL

I wish I had a question to ask but I have no idea what to ask….

Anyways, I just recently heard about this series and from looking at your website, I got really interested in it. I absolutely LOVE the idea of a paranormal apocalypse, very cool.

I just wanted to stop by and thankyou for making such a great series, can’t wait to read it.

Raquel-So far I’ve been lucky and the characters have continued to come. Knock wood!

I was always a huge reader, Denise, and the writing just naturally came from that. I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was 10!

Right now I’m reading The Art of Racing in the Rain. Just got done with The Help, which was fantastic.

When I’m crunching a deadline I crunch a lot of carrots. Then I don’t grind my teeth as much. Ha.

I am coffee all the way!

  97. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 2, 2009 @ 6:04 pm

Deana-I think this series is really action packed. And the characters are very real, even though they all have paranormal powers.
One of my favorite quotes about the first book was from Eloisa James who said they series was like a gothic on speed.
    I loved that!

I’ve enjoyed your Night Creatures books and have Any Given Doomsday on my TBR pile but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. I’ll be picking up the rest of the series as soon as I can. I love that the heroine is torn between two great men, that is a great twist to the story.

Ah, the love triangles. I love it when there are two heroes. Its is heartwrenching to find out when the guy you love is not with the heroine, but feeling triumphant when you are…It feels great. It is always fun to read the chase.

(why do they get overlooked? That is one of my fave series. Anyways, the whole “which one should I pick” story can grab mle& keep me awake all night reading - just to see WHO they have pickEd! Oh, how I wouldn’t mind 2 hot vamps/vamp hunters arguing over me! ;)

Anyways, if you could write something & be magically transported into the story - what/where/when would you send yourself? Anyone you would write into your own story?

    I RSVPed.

I picked up a copy of Blue Moon in a bookstore at the Chicago airport last spring when I realized all my reading material was buried in my checked luggage. Just a lucky break for me. I loved it, and bought Hunter’s Moon next . I have Dark Moon sitting on my TBR pile but I don’t want to start it until I’m sure I have time to read it through, otherwise I’ll miss deadlines because I can’t put it down!

  115. Comment by R.E.B. — November 2, 2009 @ 8:14 pm

Yes, I also like Spike/Angel, Jean-Claude/Richard and Edward/Jacob. I don’t think real life has only one hero, so why should fictional life? Like Batman is a hero, but sometimes Catwoman is both. That covers most of the main ones for me. The appeal is usually that I, for some reason, like tragic romance or problem-solving. It also shows that sometimes we can like both the good and the bad in people. Like, Angel has a soul he was cursed with, which people thinks makes him good (though his true nature is evil as a vampire), and Spike went and got one, which some think makes him selfish (just trying to get Buffy). It just goes to show that just because you appear to be human and have a soul that you aren’t the same person. I think many like to see the good and bad and compare, and if real females are anything like the ones in the books, they are going to have a really hard time settling for a person who seems to be only one type. I think you need some creative badass in your good-hearted person (like that Spike or Jean-Claude can deeply love but also kill; I think that you could kill to save someone you loved, so really, not much difference there). I do like Spike/Angel because their banter is really funny, and Buffy suggested they should just fight it out with some oil. I’m waiting to see that (Tall Dark and Forehead vs. Blondie Bear). :) But if Spike and Jean-Claude got together, the world may just well explode. Too much charm and charisma. :) And nice outfits. :)

So I’m thinking your Phoenix Chronicles are for me. :) Would you say they are more Edward/Jacob or Jean-Claude/Richard, since I have not read them? I’ve heard of you before, but I read so many different things, I wasn’t sure if you’d written any of those. :) Are your werewolves different in any particular way than, say, Kelley Armstrong’s (she made me like werewolves) or could you compare them to Jacob/Richard?

Thank you for being with us today! :)

    I’m a pantser, Jennifer.

As far as I know all the bookstores have my books.

If I had to be in a story it would have to be contemporary because I’m too big a wimp to do without indoor plumbing. I’d also never survive in a paranormal or uf. I’m not tough at all!

I’d say my heroes are more Edward/Jacob I think. My ww is not very Richard at any rate. I started writing my Nightcreature series because of Bitten! Loved that book.

Lisa–my writing inspiration is my deadline. Everyday I must write so I do. That’s inspiration enough for me.

Haven’t thought that far ahead yet, Karen. I have 3 books left to write on my current contract.

Hi, Booklover-I would like to write both contemp and historical again in the future.

Hi again had to go be domestic and cook and help with homework and what not but while I was doing that a couple questions came to me and it wouldn’t let me go til I got back on here to ask, so…
    1. When you were writing your first book you’ve ever written did you have trouble keeping with it at all?
    2. Was the first book you ever wrote published?
    3. Did you just write the book then send it off to publishers or what?

…I am not really sure how it all works and am curious in case the book I started a few months back ever gets finished lol I can’t seem to stay on task because I think faster than I type and get frustrated when I lose where I was going with something because of getting ahead of myself. Plus being a single mom it’s not easy to find the time to really focus on it.

  125. Comment by Ruby E — November 2, 2009 @ 9:01 pm

I like the two heroes approach too. My favourite is Eric & Bill Compton & Sookie Stackhouse from the True Blood/Charlaine Harris series.

  126. Comment by Elie N — November 2, 2009 @ 9:01 pm

Lori, I am excited to meet you. You had me interested when you said “What is it about two hot supernatural males vying for the heroine that intrigues me? I’m not quite sure, but I keep exploring it book after book and loving it.”.
    Those are my favorite stories.
    My first question is…
When reading this type of situation, I often find myself jumping sides, not ever sure who I am really rooting for. When you write, is it hard to not give the other guy equal page time?

    Second…
Have you ever considered writing anything in the YA genre?

Thanks for visiting BBB and answering our questions.

Cassandra-when I wrote my first book I had a 3 and a 1 year old, so it was a little hard keeping at it. But I just kept going until it was done.
I did sell the first book I wrote.
I entered a contest and won and the editor asked to see the book. But she didn’t buy it. Then I sent the book off to agents, got an agent and she sold the book.

It is sometimes hard, Ellie, to give each guy face time. Each book tends to be more about one or the other.

I’m very excited to explore your new series “The Phoenix Chronicles”. It’s definitely new to me…but I’m a huge fan of your work by way of your Nightcreature series…I absolutely adore all the books you’ve done in that series…they’re so darn addictive and I’m always in withdrawal once I finish one and then I have to wait for the next one.

Do you see yourself perhaps exploring paranormal erotic romances? If you could work with anyone (writing wise) who would be your dream collaborator?

Lori thanks for visiting Bitten By Books. I too love the Spike/Angel dilemma but I always find myself routing for the Spike in the triangle. I find the broody, sexy, walking on the edge sort of male the one that I want to find redemption with is heroine. Do you have a preference in your triangles? (No I am not asking you about Jimmy or Sawyer) I would love to know if you are Spike or Angel, Bill or Eric, Jean-Claude or Richard. Or do you like them all to win? Okay thats another genre completely.

Hi Lori, thanks for coming and sharing with us. I have read the first 2 in the Phoenix Chronicles and loved them. Cant wait to get Apocalypse Happens. Looking forward to starting the Nightcreatures line too.

I do like books with more than one hero. I dont really have a favorite team but I think it adds variety and more places the story can go. It also allows for other books/movies from different points of view.

Questions: (sorry if any were already asked, I havent had a chance to read though all the comments yet.)
    - Vampires or Werewolves. Who wins in the final battle or do they team up and fight together again demons and the like?
    - You can witness one event, past, present or future. What event and why? You can not alter anything, just witness.

Well, with two heroes, I can feel bad for the one who doesn’t get a happy ending with the heroine. And even worse if he was the better choice. Of course, there’s always the option that the heroine gets to keep them both. lol

    Congrats on the new release!

(RSVPd, but international, so I guess not eligible for this contest)

Anna-I doubt I’ll write any erotic romances as my books are already pretty hot. I have written a collaborative series of westerns, The Rock Creek Six, with Linda Winstead Jones aka Linda Devlin. It was a great experience so if I did another collaboration I’d definitely choose Linda.

I’m an Angel, Eric, Jean Claude girl.

My favorite non human character right now would have to be Edward Cullen.

My husband has always been incredibly supportive of my writing, Amanda. He’s amazing.

I would say vamps and weres should team up, Donna. And I’d love to witness the coronation of Queen Elizabeth I. I’ve always loved studying that period in history.

    Hey again!

Just wondering if you plan to do any young adult books. My daughter is 14 and I would love for her to read your books but the parts that I like..I know I don’t to be the one to expose her to. She would love your work though, and when she is old enough (are they ever?) I will pass on my favs. Do you ever think you will be in New England for any signings? (Me, NH???)

  153. Comment by Lesley Cheah — November 3, 2009 @ 8:47 am

    Hello Lori,

What scenes do you have trouble writing the most? How do you get over it?

    Thanks.

    I RSVPed.

  154. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 3, 2009 @ 10:12 am

Tmarie-I would love to write a YA someday. Don’t have any plans to be in NH, but you never know.

Lesley-It seems that every book is a lesson in what part is difficult. Seems to change with each one. I just plow through and fix it later. Can’t fix an empty page!

I’m the same way! I always start off with one favorite—in LKH it was Richard, in your series, it’s Jimmy—but as my favorite starts to get the girl, I start rooting for the other guy. Not sure what my problem is, lol!

I keep checking back to see what info we’re gettin on ya…:) Where do you get the ideas for the heros in your books? Have you ever been to New Orleans? What is your favorite book(s) by other authors? Do you read other paranormal books or a variety? My daughter spends a couple of hours a day writting her own vampire book. She won’t let me read it yet but I was wondering how she would go about having someone look at it when she’s ready. Is there a protocol to follow?

  160. Comment by Kristina S. — November 3, 2009 @ 3:58 pm

Hi Lori! These books sound very interesting and I can’t wait to read them. I want to wish you good luck with all your future books.

Hi Lori! I must say, just reading your descriptions above has grabbed my attention. Now I CANNOT wait to go out and get the Phoenix series! My question: Did you like to read as a young girl? If so, do you remember which book or books do you remember best? For me, the Little House series sealed my fate as a lover of books. If you’ve already answered this question, forgive me….there is such a huge response to you being here!!!
Rock on, girl!! Judi in NJ

  162. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 3, 2009 @ 5:29 pm

I’m not sure where I get my ideas, TMarie. I always fear that once I find out I won’t get them anymore.
I have been to New Orleans 4 times and can’t wait to get back.
I have several favorite books-Lord of Scoundrels, One for the Money and subsequent installments, Heaven, Texas, Guilty Pleasures.
I don’t read very much paranormal anymore I’m afraid. I get so much of it when I’m writing.

Your daughter should join Romance Writers of America. There are contests and critique groups and a monthly newsletter with writing and submitting tips, as well as local chapters and a national conference where she can meet editors and agents.

I read all the time as a kid, Judi. I used to try and bring a book to the table at dinner but my dad nixed that.

I was a huge Little House fan. I read those books over and over and over. Then I moved onto Victoria Holt, Phyllis Whitney etc. I read those over and over too.

  170. Comment by Lori Handeland — November 4, 2009 @ 7:56 am

The Phoenix chronicles were all mine, Alana. I really thought about those!

My mother is my greatest inspiration, Ember. She was diagnosed with leukemia and give a 30% chance to live–that was 17 years ago.

I prefer print books, Annalisa, don’t have an e-book reader.

I’ve written close to 50 books now, Dovile. Wrote a series for Superromance called The Luchetti Brothers and a western romance series called The Rock Creek Six, as well.
