Who the hell is this guy? Does anyone know what’s going on?

*****

Hey everybody,

I just received the most disturbing mail and video, and it is freaking me the hell out. I figure with as many readers as we have SOMEBODY has to know something. I get a lot of bizarre emails, but this one takes the cake. I almost didn’t even open it, but something told me I had to.  What a way to start a Monday eh?

The video came from some anonymous gmail email account. Is this for real or what? Tell me what you know, I think I need to give some stuff away to anybody who can come up with a damn good theory. Is this guy off of his rocker or ? Lets pass this around and see if anybody else has gotten it. Have any of you gotten this video? Normally I wouldn’t post such a personal request on the site, but this has me worried.

I saw a trailer for a movie last night 2013.Its about the end of the world.Maybe it has to do with that. **shrugs shoulders** :)

  2. Comment by Steph M — November 2, 2009 @ 10:17 am

Great everyone is an actor now! lol! Its definitely not real but pretty good for an amateur. It’s probably a film student or something.

  3. Comment by Rachel from Bitten by Books — November 2, 2009 @ 10:17 am

Really? huh I wonder if it is just being randomly emailed out. Has anybody else gotten an email?

  4. Comment by Lisa Richards — November 2, 2009 @ 10:18 am

Looks like something a bunch of college kids would come up with.

  5. Comment by Lacey — November 2, 2009 @ 10:19 am

    I’d say he’s probably a film student.

  6. Comment by Colleen — November 2, 2009 @ 10:21 am

Viral marketing for a movie or a book is my guess.

  7. Comment by Jana Stocks Brown — November 2, 2009 @ 10:22 am

Wonder if it’s tied to the new V television series. From the trailers that’s rather how it begins. Constant earthquakes which knock out communications.

Either that or he’s been invaded by killer zombie bunnies that eat technology.

  8. Comment by MarnieColette — November 2, 2009 @ 10:23 am

I think its the Viral marketing campaign for 2012 the movie. Its coming out next month. You know how they did the True Blood thing… I think its the same thing.

  9. Comment by Tymber Dalton — November 2, 2009 @ 10:24 am

That’s not real. For one, the background sounds keep looping. For the second, the background sounds wouldn’t sound that loud if he was inside, and third, if the camera keeps jumping, why isn’t the stuff on the shelf behind him moving?

If he’s a film student, he really needs to learn more about totally getting the effects down.

Then, just my impression from guessing about the way he delivers his lines, he’s acting.

And one last thing to debunk it as not real — his cell phone’s not working, but the internet is? If he really needs help that badly, why isn’t he on Skype to law enforcement or contacting someone he knows to help him instead of sending out random messages through You Tube without information as to who or where he is.

    I’d say you’ve been Punk’d.

  10. Comment by Julia S. — November 2, 2009 @ 10:25 am

That was entertaining, at least ;o)

I’m sure it is marketing or just one of those videos circulating the internet… I haven’t gotten it though. I’ll have to ask my honey- he has some friends who are sending him videos/pictures in FWD a million times a day.

  11. Comment by MarnieColette — November 2, 2009 @ 10:25 am

Actually its coming out Nov 13…

  12. Comment by Tymber Dalton — November 2, 2009 @ 10:26 am

And I meant if the camera is jumping because of impacts or earthquakes or whatever, the stuff behind him would be moving too.

  13. Comment by Steph M — November 2, 2009 @ 10:27 am

They can get your email from pretty much anywhere. I agree prbably a campaign for a movie or show or final project for school. lol!

  14. Comment by Rachel M — November 2, 2009 @ 10:28 am

Having spent a good portion of my life in a closet like that… he is probably just a bored IT guy.

    My Two Cents,
    PNRBookworm

  15. Comment by pixie13 — November 2, 2009 @ 10:32 am

Fake, and not even a very good one. The camera is what is shaking. Check the stuff on the shelf behind him. In a real earthquake they’d shift or even fall off. Not a thing out of place. No idea what the point of it is.

  16. Comment by Annie Alvarez — November 2, 2009 @ 10:33 am

I think it’s about the movie 2013. There’s been a lot of hype about it.

  17. Comment by Tamara Shurling — November 2, 2009 @ 10:36 am

Is this for the movie 2012?

  18. Comment by iokijo — November 2, 2009 @ 10:38 am

LOL.. if no phones, cell phones, radio or anything how is he on the net? agree it’s probably related to 2012 coming out, or just going for his 15 min. and what better place than BBB.

  19. Comment by Raelena P — November 2, 2009 @ 10:41 am

looks like some bad acting to me.

  20. Comment by Elaine G — November 2, 2009 @ 10:55 am

is the movie 2012 or 2013? I thought it was 13.

  21. Comment by Wendy C. — November 2, 2009 @ 11:00 am

    It’s 2012!

And I think someone has definitely TOO much time on his hands.

  22. Comment by Lakota Phillips — November 2, 2009 @ 11:02 am

definitely some kind of viral marketing. :)

  23. Comment by Apryle — November 2, 2009 @ 11:08 am

Looking very high school audio/visual club ” hey let’s get on the 2012 train “.hokey but sincere ;)

  24. Comment by Medievalgrrl — November 2, 2009 @ 11:14 am

This is obviously staged. I work with actors all the time and if you watch this closely, near the end he almost loses character and half smiles, like he was about to laugh but recovered.

Not to be taken seroiusly, just a ploy by some young people to see who will react and how many hits they can get.

  25. Comment by Nancy Gilliland — November 2, 2009 @ 11:19 am

I think it is probably a promo for something, but is in bad taste with no advance warning or such.

  26. Comment by Sharon K — November 2, 2009 @ 11:25 am

I think he’s a student of some sort, I watched it on You Tube and checked out his profile here http://www.youtube.com/user/LouWasnicki1, not much there and only this one film. I agree bored student.

  27. Comment by Doniki B. — November 2, 2009 @ 11:30 am

Looks like a low budget attempt at viral marketing or something that is made to look like a low budget attempt at viral marketing. (Sometimes the obvious low budget-ness is supposed to be part of the appeal.)

    Sorry it disturbed you, Rachel.

As someone has pointed out, the apocalyptic movie 2012 is coming out here soon.

I wouldn’t worry to much about this.

  28. Comment by Sharon K — November 2, 2009 @ 11:40 am

Look at the items on the shelf in the background, there are at least 2 boxes from Motherboards plus other computer components. Has to be a student or a bored employee of a store that sells and/or repairs computers. Now I’m leaning more to the store employee.

  29. Comment by Elie N — November 2, 2009 @ 11:47 am

I KNOW! I KNOW! This is a transmission from people in a parallel universe (that’s possible you know). They can’t get any connections to see the great author interviews and giveaways at BBB and they need HELP!

Either that or it is a new book trailer. I’m curious too!

  30. Comment by Libby L — November 2, 2009 @ 11:56 am

Sorry it disturbed you! I definitely think it has to be related to that new movie or V which starts tomorrow. I think? Syfy channel had the original V on last night. I missed it because I didn’t find out til it aired the last part. (I never knew there was an original!) I wanted to watch the new series withouth comparing it to something.

IMO, that guy was a bad actor!

  31. Comment by Sue Rosenbalm — November 2, 2009 @ 12:02 pm

    Hi Rachel,
Definitely staged. The background sound is a loop (listen to it closely). Anyone who was involved in an earthquake wouldn’t take the time to “steady” a camera (if that would even be possible) nor to act as “calm” as he really appears to be. His face was not “red” and his pleads were lame.
Definitely a hoax or a stab at getting attention…
    Sue

  32. Comment by Sarah Jones — November 2, 2009 @ 12:27 pm

I’m pretty sure that the bad acting police are after this guy. ;)

  33. Comment by Heidi Shafer — November 2, 2009 @ 12:33 pm

hey I saw that on my facebook, I will go check it out and let u know

  34. Comment by Jessie Potts — November 2, 2009 @ 12:45 pm

OH Awesome! I’d say that this could be the teaser campaign for the start of a new viral marketing plan.

Think of it this way, this guy is calling for help but doesn’t have anything to call for help on, the radio and cell phones are down…. people start to buzz about what this video could mean…. next they let loose more of these viral videos and like Paranormal Activity we all start wondering when the next vid is coming out… then WHAM… I’d say it’s for a new movie or video that’s coming in 2010. If I’m right then we should see more of these ‘help’ videos… bum bum buuuuuummmmm!

  35. Comment by Summer G — November 2, 2009 @ 1:36 pm

Stealth marketing campaigns usually generate buzz and awareness to achieve marketing objectives…. however that one completely missed.
The bad acting and the failure to focus on the details caused the disintegration of the viral video.

I say someone “almost” Punk’d ya.

  36. Comment by Lingeorge — November 2, 2009 @ 1:36 pm

Tymber pretty much stated my take on the video. Anybody who follows this blog may have a “buddy” who sent this to Youtube and then forwarded it to you. Guess what! They just got their publicity out.

  37. Comment by Lisa B. — November 2, 2009 @ 1:48 pm

I have no idea what this is about. Probably just some random YouTube vid for attention or promotion. Either that or something bad is coming…DUN DUN DUN! (cue dramatic music)

  38. Comment by Barbara Elness — November 2, 2009 @ 1:50 pm

I agree that it’s most likely viral marketing for something coming out very soon like V or 2012.

  39. Comment by Carrie — November 2, 2009 @ 1:59 pm

    Zombie Invasion??

  40. Comment by The Book Girl — November 2, 2009 @ 2:02 pm

maybe the end of the world….but without cell service and such how was he able to hook up to the internet and post to youtube? Do you know how frustrating it is to post a video on that site?

  41. Comment by Cyd J — November 2, 2009 @ 3:26 pm

Reavers. He is being attacked by Reavers.

  42. Comment by Lisa D. — November 2, 2009 @ 3:55 pm

Film student and not a very good set! All things need to jump when filming. My take on it anyway.

  43. Comment by Tiny — November 2, 2009 @ 4:18 pm

LOVE the reference to reavers (yay Firefly and Serenity!!!) but I doubt that’s it….too bad, I would adore having the Firefly gang back on tv or a movie…sigh….

it’s gotta be a teaser for 2012 tho…that’s what I thought of immediately when he said there were constant earthquakes, ’cause that’s what you see on the movie trailers.

…we’re so jaded and used to these types of tricks these days…can’t anyone come up with something original?

  44. Comment by Jason Lewis — November 2, 2009 @ 4:25 pm

I think he’s just freaking out cause he’s gotta take a shit and Starbucks told him he can’t use the shitter unless he buys somethin’.

  45. Comment by Caden Leigh — November 2, 2009 @ 4:26 pm

I assume he is just a wankerbear! And alive since he signed back into his account 5 days ago. LOL

  46. Comment by Taylor Z — November 2, 2009 @ 4:29 pm

Its prob a commercial like other people said, or someone really bored. cuz why would someone have no working cell phones and stuff, but then be able to make a video and post it….suree totally reall not!

  47. Comment by Faerydreamer/Dianne B. — November 2, 2009 @ 4:31 pm

OMG…this guy needs to get a life and to stop scaring people. This is crazy. What a fake!

  48. Comment by Janice D. — November 2, 2009 @ 4:36 pm

According to YouTube his name is Lou Wasnick, if he is the same Lou Wasnick from Buffalo NY that is on facebook ( and the pictures are very similar) it is just some college kid acting silly. Even if its not the same person I’d go for silly kid. The video was uploaded to YouTube on Oct. 12, 2009. If there was an earthquake anywhere that day it sure didn’t make the news, and as so many others have commented, the stuff would have fallen off the shelves behind him and not just in the other room.

  49. Comment by adelle — November 2, 2009 @ 4:46 pm

I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m sure it’s from a movie or game. Its kinda like trueblood when they did there promos by sending people fake blood, and posting vids of supposed vampires. It was posted 3 weeks ago on you tube. So either he’s just being silly or promoting something:)

  50. Comment by Cheryl McInnis — November 2, 2009 @ 4:55 pm

Whew! I’m glad there seems to be an explanation for this. Otherwise it would be pretty darn freaky, LOL!

  51. Comment by Becky — November 2, 2009 @ 5:11 pm

If you had gotten that today….I would have thought he lived near me when I had my little….um….tantrum before I got my nicotine patches. I’m fairly certain there was a sonic boom involved or at least a minor earthquake centered around my house.

  52. Comment by Kristi Herbrand — November 2, 2009 @ 5:31 pm

I agree with everyone that thinks it is for the movie 2012 about the end of the world. I think there is also a book out called The Elijah Project that deals with the same subject. But 2012 seems to be getting a lot of hype lately. Thanks for sharing!

  53. Comment by Jessica S. — November 2, 2009 @ 6:29 pm

I think someone was very bored and perhaps anticipating the movie 2012. But did anyone see the article Yahoo had a week or two ago that said the world is NOT ending on said date in 2012?

Here’s a link in case anyone wants to read it.
    http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5geddMD9F2E4JN9acD5IJvqHtll9AD9B8P09G0

Again, I think this guy was just a little bored or something. The noises sounded way too recorded. The only things I can think of are: that he is bored, a big fan of the movie that has yet to be released, or this was some sort of project for school. Although, what kind of assignment that was, I have no idea! :)

  54. Comment by jennifer mathis — November 2, 2009 @ 6:47 pm

wow I guess I haven’t been that bored yet. Poor cubicule people lol.

  55. Comment by LisaG — November 2, 2009 @ 7:03 pm

    You’ve got me?? Go figure?

  56. Comment by Koren Cota — November 2, 2009 @ 7:20 pm

Looks like a high school film project to me….

  57. Comment by Koren Cota — November 2, 2009 @ 7:24 pm

if it was really an earthquake would the stuff on the storage shelves still be there?

  58. Comment by annalisa — November 2, 2009 @ 7:42 pm

I think this guy is just bored and wanting some attention. Maybe the fact that the movie 2012 is coming out inspired him to make the video. If he’s a film student and an aspiring actor, all I can say is he needs more lessons before he makes another video.

  59. Comment by Janet H — November 2, 2009 @ 7:50 pm

He’s not that good of an actor so it probably isn’t for “V” or the upcoming 2012 movie. It could be a promo, but it’s probably just some kids having fun.

  60. Comment by Biki — November 2, 2009 @ 7:57 pm

It look like a bad ad for the movie 2012, lol.

  61. Comment by Maggie Smith — November 2, 2009 @ 8:46 pm

I don’t normally comment on blogs but here goes……

I thought it was bad bad acting. I was waiting for something really eerie when I first read your Tweet. I came back after putting the little one to bed to see this. I’m not thrilled :(

  62. Comment by Beverly G — November 2, 2009 @ 9:28 pm

looks like the clip for the new movie 2012 maybe since this is aparanormal review site he wnated you to watch the movie so he sent that clip as part of his acting tallent?

  63. Comment by Tiah B — November 2, 2009 @ 9:35 pm

I agree, I think it is for the movie 2012. Have you seen the previews for that movie? LAME!

  64. Comment by Michelle Miller/the true book addict — November 2, 2009 @ 9:50 pm

I concur with others here. I think it’s something to do with the movie 2012 that’s coming out soon. How weird though!

  65. Comment by Kathy Crouch — November 2, 2009 @ 10:15 pm

LOL I agree with the group here, this is obviously staged. It was entertaining for us to speculate about tho!

  66. Comment by Anna S. H. — November 2, 2009 @ 11:02 pm

Sorry Rachel…but I’m way too chicken to even play it. I’m freaked out enough by your reaction…even if it turns out to be a hoax…I don’t want to watch the video…I’m a complete chicken when it comes to crap like this…Sorry I can’t be more help :(

    Happy Reading!!!
    Anna

  67. Comment by Heidi Shafer — November 2, 2009 @ 11:46 pm

from what I saw on facebook it is for a movie, but Im not sure witch one it could be 2012 so stay tuned to see if there are any more floating around. I daughter saw it and told me. However i agree with everyone else its bad acting..
    HS

  68. Comment by Cassandra M — November 3, 2009 @ 2:27 am

That was just fake as can be! I lived in CA and although it was a minor earthquake that I felt, earthquakes just aren’t like that someone is standing behind the web came shaking it so seriously don’t worry about it. If there was a problem it would have been all over the news, and no one in there right mind even if the cell phones were down and the internet miraculously up if there was a bad earthquake or what not like that would be doing a video and posting it on you tube to get help. The guy just wants attention and obviously has no real life and just trying to get people freaked out.

  69. Comment by Jamie — November 3, 2009 @ 2:37 pm

first off if there were really earthquakes going on the stuff behind him wouldnt still be there…. i think he wants some sort of advertising assistance for you.. cause if its on youtube he gets “views” or “hits” every time someone views it.

  70. Comment by Judi W — November 3, 2009 @ 6:45 pm

Really bad acting….if he truly needed help you would think he would give an address…a silly boy in need of attention and help, yes, just not the kind he’s asking for.

  71. Comment by Belinda Wolf-Whitaker — November 3, 2009 @ 9:12 pm

I don’t know who he is but I’m pretty sure it’s fake. The picture is jumpy but nothing inside moves like it’s an earthquake even the kid should be having trouble standing up right. The music is repetative and loud like it’s in there where he’s at. He never tells you who he is or where he’s at so someone could try and send help. Why youtube if the phones and radio are out the internet should be out too. I thank it’s a joke or show promotion it’s too much like the Bare Witch Project to make me believe it.

  72. Comment by Ember J — November 3, 2009 @ 9:30 pm

It’s a joke. It’s posted on youtube. The account was created Oct 12. Video Posted the same day. Doesn’t tell you where to send help too. It’s just someone having fun with a video camera.

  73. Comment by Valerie Douglas (V. J. Devereaux) — November 4, 2009 @ 7:32 am

Ember has it right, somebody is being stupid. It’s linked to the TV show Heroes. It’s either a bid for attention or shameless self promotion form someone who thinks he’s on the fast track to be either a director or an actor.

  74. Comment by Kathleen Kelly — November 4, 2009 @ 4:51 pm

Is it something from the show Flash Forward, that guy looks familiar..or maybe the show V???

  75. Comment by Sarai — November 4, 2009 @ 9:00 pm

lol, so fake, his hair is too perfect for someone really going through that :P

  76. Comment by Lisa M — November 5, 2009 @ 11:43 am

He looks familiar. Is it a 2012 promo? Ok, you know I’m going to google it.

  77. Comment by Melissa — November 5, 2009 @ 5:50 pm

I think its probably for the new movie 2012.

  78. Comment by Bella F. — November 5, 2009 @ 9:49 pm

    yeah it looks very 2012…
for a moment i was worried it was one of those german commercials where some monster randomly pops out and scares the viewer who is focused on the guy, lol
Does anyone else remember that commercial from a few years back? It was a car driving on a road, with soft music like an ordinary car commercial, then a dead ghoulish thing pops up and screams and u do too!

  79. Comment by Jamie L. — November 7, 2009 @ 1:15 am

This was not acting. That would be an insult to any actor everywhere. That was him “trying” to act like he was frightened and honestly if he was in need of help, he would be running around screaming, using his hands to cover himself from the falling debris(which wasn’t falling) that the “earthquakes” were causing. Total fluke. This is too sucky to be in 2012, which I haven’t seen any previews for it but if it is going to be a big movie, then they wouldn’t use someone like this who can’t act any better than a 2yr old. And another way you know it’s fake, dude didn’t have any harm come to him. He should have scratches, he should be sweating, crying and none of that was happening. I think he almost started cracking up at one point too if you watch closely. It was just lame, and the guy should be arrested for sending out stuff like this.

And as someone said if , as the man said in the video, NOTHING is working, then why is his internet connection working?
