Day 29 & 30 Contest for My Bloody Vampire - The MOTHERLOAD of Prizes!

Posted under Contests, Site News by Site Hostess on Thursday 29 October 2009 at 9:00 pm
*****

PLEASE NOTE: Comments and the contest are closed for this post.

Welcome one and all to day 29 & 30 of our month long bash of bloody goodness.

Today’s contest is easy and fun. The winner will be announced later this week. There are 48 prizes for today! Spread the word!

http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=12446

We still have TONS of prizes to give away this month and only a couple of days to do it! SO, I am combining today and tomorrow’s contests together.

1. To enter today’s contest all you need to do is tell us which books/authors you would (or have) skipped work or an important engagement to stay home and read. And don’t tell me you have NEVER done it or at least considered it. LOL Authors you would RISK censure at work to stay home and read. Spill it.

Here are my confessions: Anything by Keri Arthur. Sorry, I checked out last night so I could read most of Bound to Shadows book 8 instead of doing the day 29 contest for you all. LOL *runs*. Other indescretions would be committed for the following.

Yasmine Galenorn, Jeaniene Frost, Nancy Haddock, Gerry Bartlet, Kimberly Raye, Dakota Cassidy, Mark Henry, Tom Sniegoski, Jim Butcher…crap, I had better stop before I am in big trouble.

2. Go and comment in Susan Blexrud’s Guest Blog today here: http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=12436

    1. I’m totally with you. Anything by Keri Arthur will put me out of commission until I’ve finished it. Also I’m getting pretty into YA. I have to admit, last year I blew off many-a-things just to read the Twilight series. Right now I’m hooked on the Sookie Stackhouse novels and the House of the Night series.

Oh geez… talk about opening up a can of worms… Dakota Cassidy, for sure (and heaven only knows, I’ve spent enough work time reading HER books)… R. A. Salvatore, Michele Bardsley, Jacqueline Carey, Anne Rice back in the good ol’ days. Um… seriously, probably anything that has got a good hold on me at the time. LOL Eragon was the last book that I considered quitting my job for.

    #2-8 all D.O.N.E. :)

  29. Comment by Nikki B. — October 29, 2009 @ 10:22 pm

I will freely confess that I have skipped and neglected work for two authors! Rachel Vincent & Jeaniene Frost!!! I will even admit to being so impatient to read Destined for an Early Grave (Nighthuntress 4) that I read it while driving on the way home from Barnes & Noble it was a difficult task all in itself but I did it, and I did not kill anyone! It’s terrible I know, but I just could not wait! *shame face*

p.s. I could not put down Keri Arthur’s Bound to Shadows either but luckily I had the day off! ;)

    2-8 done!!!!

Okay so every time I get a super awesome new book, I consider skipping work, school, dentist appointments, social engagements, kidney transplants, what have you. It’s just so hard not to get engrossed and then to be interrupted when you are living in the text sucks majorly. Although I’ve learned, if you cut off from the real world entirely (yes I’ve done it, multiple times), I start to feel ill. Now this may come from surviving wholly on granola bars (chocolate chip) and apple juice for three days, but I digress. In the past, I’ve holed up in my room for new Harry Potter books and Breaking Dawn. I also spent about two days (before a big trip to the beach for which I should have been packing) reading the latest Jeaniene Frost book. So here’s a list of other authors I would totally spend my day, week, however long it took, holed up with if I could do so and A) not get sick, B) not need sleep, and C) not get in trouble for locking myself away:

    Jeaniene Frost
    Jim Butcher
    Jennifer Rardin
    Tamora Pierce
    Kim Harrison
    Carrie Vaughn
    Julie Kenner
JK Rowling (Come on, if there was a new HP book, half the world would shut down the week after it released)
    JR Ward

Oh gosh, there are SO many authors!! Neil Gaiman & J.R.R. Tolkien are TOPS. J.K. Rowling, :) Richelle Mead - I shut off my cell for 2 days when reading the latest Succubus book. (I was engrossed in that series for awhile there and couldn’t put it down!) Dakota Cassidy. I adore Christine Rose and Maria V Snyder too! There are sooo many more. Right now, I’m reading the new Nick Hornby book.

The main reason I don’t sleep very well is because I would rather sleep than read. :) I always have a book nearby/in my bag/hands. It drives me crazy when I have to put a book done and actually do work! I was in the end of a Cassandra Clare book last week and I was interrupted repeatedly - ooooh non-book people just do NOT understand. Do they? I was reading and this particular person just sat down next to me and started talking. No regard that I was uh, in the middle of reading?! and they never mentioned it - apologized… anything! lol! :)

    1. Skipped work to go to a book-signing by Richelle Mead in another city!
that’s my biggest one, lol! And worth it :)
Also, I skipped class when I was reading Breaking Dawn when it came out last year! I looked at the clock and it was 4am, class was at 8am and I decided, “screw it. i’m reading this book” lol Charlaine Harris’ Sookie series also gave me tons of sleepless nights that I spent reading in bed :)
It’s gotten to the point that whenever my boyfriend spots me with a book by any of these three ladies, he groans and complains b/c he knows he won’t be seeing me except with my nose in the book!

Needless to say, I was too sick to go to work, and what a great ending to one of my fav books. :)

I work at home so I’m always pushing work back to finish a chapter or book….
Once when I was a substitute-teacher, I read one of the chapters of a newly released Harry Potter book aloud to the class, because I couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

Everything at my house comes to a dead-halt when theres a new Jim Butcher or Charlaine Harris release. I just mark those days on the calender.

I skipped a family gathering to read a Sherilyn Kenyon book.
I exaggerated an illness to read MAryJane Davidson- I really could have made it in, but I thought I would feel much better if I stayed home got some rest (and finished one of the “Undead” books), and I was right.

I skipped a meeting to read Molly Harper.

Once I’m stuck in a book, no matter which, the world is likely to pass me by! Authors who get me ’stuck in fiction’ are: Angie Fox, Mark Henry, Michelle Rowen, Charlaine Harris, Keri Arthur, Lara Adrian, A.E.Rought and Maya Banks. Probably a few more that I can’t recall ATM, too!

I miss sleep a lot because I can not put the books I’m reading down and have even missed court to read a good book from the authors below! I’m addicted to vampires, faes, lycans, witches, etc. Its all so good that it keeps me up at night till 3am! I also get upset, because I read faster then the authors write and darn it for having to wait a year for the next series, it’s pure torture! I used to watch Charmed and I catch all the Vampire series on tv these days, which there is just not enough to watch, so read, read, away! I think I have spent more money on books then I do anything else. I commented on the Carole Nelson Douglas post.

    Happy Halloween! (Early!)

While I have stayed up much too late to finish a book, I’ve never stayed home from work to read. Love Dean Koontz, Jim Hines, P.C. Cast, Richelle Mead, Kelley Armstrong, Jackie Kessler, the list goes on and on…

Voted for the final round for FPAY!

I’ve skipped my husband’s family functions to stay at home and read, but not work, yet. Anything by Keri Arthur, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Laurell Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Richelle Mead, or Mary Janice Davidson (major comic relief), P.C. Cast, Jeaniene Frost. I’m sure there are more, but that’s good enough for now.

  119. Comment by Ashlee Hartmann — October 30, 2009 @ 4:00 pm

I have skipped school and have even been late to work from being in the middle or near the end of a good book. The usual suspects for this occurance being Kerrelyn Sparks, Lynsay Sands, Jacqualine Frank, Patricia Briggs and Charlene Harris. I just loose track of time or just don’t want to put it down for anything, even school. :)

  120. Comment by Connie — October 30, 2009 @ 4:10 pm

I can read at work so I’ve never had to skip work. But I do admit I’ve slacked off on my duties because I was too into a book!! I’d do it for LKH for sure, she’s still my favorite.

I did lose a lot of study and sleep hours - with a consequently high risk of falling asleep at university, lol - because of her books, as well as because of Charlaine Harris, Laurell K. Hamilton, J. R. Ward, Jeanine Frost, Maria V. Snyder…
I’d better stop, otherwise you might think I don’t sleep at all, lol.

I will stop my personal life and indulge in a “consume it from beginning to end in one sitting” for these authors. Karen Marie Moning…. definitely. What is Mac getting herself into now. Its almost impossible to put those books down. I’m on pins and needles waiting for Shadowfever which won’t be out until late summer/early fall 2010. I got my daughter started, and she got a friend from work started. Now we are all frantic to continue the story. I would skip classes to get these books and read them! Write faster Karen, and keep them coming. LOL

    Laurell K. Hamilton hands down.
Jacqueline Carey too (she’s not paranormal romance or urban fantasy but she is DARK fantasy…)

  158. Comment by DawnM — October 31, 2009 @ 12:42 pm

Laurell K Hamilton, even when I want to throw the book, I still can’t help reading it. Jim Butcher - a new Harry Dresden is a must. Right now I’ve just devoured the Gathering Storm by the late Robert Jordan, all of his books are hardback buys for me, pre-ordered months in advance. So clever with red herrings… I always figured Rand would lose a hand, that was obvious from almost the beginning but the blind beggar foreshadowing had me worried right to the last chapter when you find out what Casdsuane really has to teach him. And of course JD Robb, another must buy/must read as soon as they came out. Luckily I’m a fast reader but I have been known to stay up overnight because I couldn’t put the book down.

I have skiped class twice to read two different authorss latest and have stayed home from work “sick” once to read another author. There are about 30 authors who might make that list at one time or another, but I have been lucky that only Carol Lynne, AJ Llewellyn, and J.R. Ward. I have lost sleep and had terrible days the next day to read several additional authors:
Anny Cook, Alyssa Day, Bronwyn Green, Brynn Paulin, CT Adams & Cathy Clamp, Christine Warren, Eloisa James, Erin McCarthy, JL Langley, Jean Johnson, Joey W. Hill, Julia Quinn, Kathy Love, Katie MacAlister, Keri Arthur, Lisa Kleypas, Liz Carlyle, Lora Leigh, Lucy Monroe, Stephanie Laurens, Mary Balogh, MaryJanice Davidson, Mima, Rachel Vincent, Sabrina Jeffries, Samantha James, Samantha Kane, Shayla Kersten, Suzanne Brockmann, Suzanne Enoch, TA Chase. Wow that’s a lot, and that’s just the absolute favorites.
