Character Interview, Chat and Contest with Author Raine Delight

Today Damien and Rodrick are being interviewed by Raine Delight’s “Muse”.

Raine’s Muse settles in his easy chair and sips from a mug of coffee. Tapping his foot, he waits for the two Dracon brothers to come for their interview. He mutters, “I swear those two are going to be turned into jackasses if they skip this interview.” He looks up and smiles at the way Damien and Rodrick look as glum as they walk through the door.

“Well, gentlemen, it’s about bloody time you got here. I swear if I didn’t promise Raine to be good, you would have been in deep trouble.” Muse says as he watches them settle in the two other chairs in the room. “Let’s get started shall we.”

“Thank you two for sitting down with me to answer some questions.” Smirks the Muse

“Like either one of us had a chance. You threatened to edit us out of the series if we didn’t. Just hurry up so I can get back to Alecia.”Damien growls.

“Oh stuff it Damien! I swear you two have no reason to complain.” Grins the Muse

Q: You two are the heir to the Dragon Inn that is located in Devon Falls. Who runs it now?

A: “Well we both do. I take care of the day to day stuff and Rod here takes care of paperwork, orders and every now and again helps out in the kitchen.” Damien leans toward Muse and stage whispers, “He makes a mean flan if I do say so myself.”

“Oh great go ahead Damien and tell the world I can cook.”Rod sighs in disgust. “Yes I like to cook and enjoy baking some days. It relaxes me and if anyone tries to make anything of it, I am going to kick them in the head.” Rod says as he glares at his brother who is laughing softly at Rod’s discomfort.

“Boys, play nice now! Raine doesn’t like it when you two fight.” Muse says as he keeps recording their conversation. “Now onto the next question guys.” Muse takes a sip of his now cooling coffee and grimaces

Q: Why do you two have different shape shifting abilities?

A: Rod looks at the Muse and says, “Blame the genes for god sake. It is tradition in our family to have different shifting abilities. It makes family gatherings quite interesting though.”

Q: Rodrick can sense others magical abilities, what about Damien? What are his abilities?

A: Damien looks at the Muse and answers, “Well I can shift into a dragon and Alecia thinks it’s “pretty”. Women! I swear I am to be big, tough and scary…..not pretty. That is such a girlie word though don’t tell her I said so. I happen to like having sex and her cooking.”

Rodrick bursts out laughing, “She thinks you look pretty…as in flower pretty? Oh geez….that is too hilarious. I can picture you in your dragon form and have her make flower crowns for you.” His laughter had Damien looking like he wanted to scorch Rod on the spot, smoke was curling from his nose.

Muse leans forward and taps both guys on the knee, “Knock it off Damien. If you start a fire in my living room, I am scorching your ass and Raine won’t be able to stop it either. She won’t like it if you destroy her leather chairs she just got the other day for me.”

Damien glares at Rod as his brother keeps laughing and then mutters “Well what was I to do, argue with the woman. Sheesh I just got back in her good graces for pete’s sake.”

Q: Has Alicia forgiven you, Damien, for leaving her or is she making you work for it still?

A: Damien sighs again while keeping an eye on Rod who is still snickering under his breath, “I have a long way to go before she trusts me fully again. We are making strides though and with her sister Jenna’s engagement, it helps that we keep the lines of communication open. I can’t talk for her but on my end, I try to make each day showing her that she means more to me than ever. I don’t do wooing very well so it is hard for me to show how much I am sorry for all the hurt I caused her. It isn’t just her forgiving me, I have to forgive myself as well.” Damien pauses and sighs as he tries to get his thoughts in order. “Every day is a godsend to me as I wake up beside her and see the love in her eyes. It shows me that forgiveness even though I did her wrong in the past is still an amazing thing to behold.”

Rod looks at Damien and makes a show of wiping a tear away from his eye as he plays an imaginary violin. “Dang, brother of mine, if I wasn’t depressed before, I am now. That was way too schmaltzy even for me.”

Muse leans over and smacks Rod on the leg, “Knock it off you idiot. I swear if you two don’t stop trying to push each other’s buttons here, I am going to kick your ass from here to Greenland. Are we clear?”

Both guys glare at Muse before nodding and muttering about overachiever muses and the evil things they do.

Q: Damien, Why did it take so long for you to come back after your grandfather died?

A: Damien looks at Muse, “Well I was just unsure of everything. I spent time with relatives.” Rod mutters under his breath, “and with sexy models.” “And wolf boy here kept missing me with his messages.”

Damien slaps Rod in the back of the head. “I wouldn’t say that in front of Alecia, Rod. She will string you up and beat you if you even mention that; though if you do……I may have to sell tickets because that would be prime entertainment.”

Rod rubs his head and growls in his throat, “Hey, just stating a fact here. You did have several women there or so the gossip rags said and it looked as if they were awfully good looking Damien. You know I won’t say anything; just a tad envious is all. The women all look FINE to my eyes.” Rod then wiggles his eyebrows and leers at Damien comically.

“You know, you are such a player, Rod. I swear if it had two legs, tits and an ass, you would flirt with them no matter what.” Damien says as he tries not to give into the urge to beat his brother senseless. “Besides what Jaxon would do to you would be so much more fun to watch.” Damien watched as his brother’s eyes glared daggers at him. Snickering softly, he glanced at the muse who had the look of “Why Me” on his face.

“You know you can be such an ass, Damien. I swear if mother hadn’t ingrained some manners in us, I would beat you to a pulp by now.” Rod said as he shifted in his chair. The wolf inside him wanted to lunge at Damien but Rod kept a firm grasp on him.

Q: Rod, You never had a serious relationship with a woman, could it be because you had a thing for Jax?

A: Damien snorts in laughter, “Yep player all the way. He goes through women like they are going to die out tomorrow.”

“Shut the hell up, you jackass.” Rod said as he lunged at Damien.

“BOYS! Do I need to remind you that if you ruin the said new furniture, I am going to take your asses and staple them to the road?” Muse yelled as Damien jumped out of his chair, knocking it over to escape Rod’s fist.

“You and what army wolf boy?” Damien growled as his eyes changed to a red, signaling the dragon’s desire to come play.

A loud bang hit the air and both Damien and Rod looked around finally spying Muse standing up with a determined annoyed look on his face.

“SIT…..YOUR…..ASSES….DOWN……NOW!”

Damien and Rod slowly with eyes left on Muse, they sat back down and fixed the chairs.

“If you two are done making complete and utter asses of yourselves can we please finish this interview so I can kick your butts out and save the furniture from harm?”

“Now where were we, oh yeah, Rod, your question.” Muse grins at Rod

Rod looks at the muse and blinks, “I swear god made that woman to be the bane of my existence. She is so aggravating and annoying, always ready with a quip or to make you wish you could throttle her. Why me she picks to torment is beyond me.” With a grimace, he continues, “But she has a good heart and lately if everyone is telling me right?”Rod glares at Damien. “Wolf decided that she was it for me and wooing her is dang hard work. I swear the natural charm I have is NOT working with her nor is she letting me near her in a romantic way.”

Damien snickers, “Though to see him fall for her was a delight. The ladies man of Devon Falls found the one woman who is immune to his charms and seductions. It is great to see all those fireworks between them. I swear if we all bet between these two, I would put money on Jax. She is a force to be reckoned with when these two are together.”

Rod glares at Damien and just huffs in annoyance at his laughter.

Q: What first attracted you to your mates?

A: Damien answers “Alecia has a certain love of life about her. She loves to laugh and gives off a certain joy when you see her in the Dew Drop creating the desserts everyone loves here in Devon Falls. The way her eyes sparkled and that smile caught my eye then the rest fell in place for me.”

Rod looks at Damien and sighs, “You know I swear you gotten too romantic for my tastes Damien. With Jaxon, it wasn’t anything in particular. She isn’t what I had in mind as a mate.”

Damien snickers and says, “Yeah she isn’t blond with double D’s.”

“And for some reason, she calms us; I mean both myself and the wolf inside me. She keeps me guessing at what is coming out of her mouth and she makes me laugh with her quips. “Rod thinks a bit and continues after clearing his throat, “She draws me like no other woman has and she is the one person I can actually see myself with in years down the road.” Blushing, Rod ducks his head as Damien hoots it up and slaps the chair. “Yeah he has it bad, Muse, don’t you think?”

Muse just watches these two and takes a sip of his now stone cold coffee and grimaces as he puts it down in disgust.

Q: Will Devon Falls always be your home or can you see moving in the future?

Both guys look at Muse like he is going insane.

A: “Why would we leave? Devon Falls is great place and we have a future here, ties to the community and it is a place where all paranormals, regardless of what/who they are can come and enjoy in utter peace.” Rod says as he smiles softly. “This is home to us though we may go see the world, so to speak but we always come “Home”.

Damien nods his head in agreement, “Yeah, Devon Falls is home to us and we love it here. “

Muse smiles as both guys look so content after answering this.

Q: “So neither of you want to go explore the world and see all the big cities?” Muse teases as he watches Damien and Rod relax in their chairs.

A: “I did explore a bit and the world is big, scary place, especially if you are a paranormal.” Damien shrugs, “I always felt like I was missing a part of me and when I came back home, it felt so right to be here in Devon Falls.”

“Ok I have to ask this last question because the readers are anxious on it……..”

Q: Is this the end to the series?

A: Damien and Rod both look at Muse….”Well you tell us. I know Raine has one more planned but after that I can’t say for sure but maybe 2 more books coming but don’t quote me on it.”

Muse smiles sagely, “Now why would I tell you if the series is ending or not.” Grinning widely, “With Jenna and Marc’s wedding coming up, will we hear the wedding bells ring for you two as well?”

Both guys look at muse and stand up in a panic ”Oh hell no” both guys say at once. The panicked looks on their face made Muse laugh loudly at the way these two tough guys looked like cornered rats.

Muse stands up and motions them to the door, “Relax guys, just teasing. I don’t know what is in store for you all but I can say this, Devon Falls is never, ever boring.”

As Damien and Rod walk out the door, they look back at Muse and you can see the collective relief on their faces as they realized that the torture was done.

Muse sat down with a sigh and clicked off the recorder. “Thank god that is done. Those two are so volatile half the time; it makes me want to smack them down with a stick.”

Grimacing at the cold coffee in his cup, he looks around his beloved living room and smiles wickedly, “Now onto the women of Devon Falls.”

Raine, your Muse did an excellent job of interviewing and keeping the brothers in control. This opened up a whole new world for me; Devon
Falls sounds like a great place to live.

I RSVP’d and thanks for being here today.

What a refreshing change to have the characters answer the questions; although I think it would have been even better if we had learned something about new books in the offing from them.

When you are writing, do you always see the ending clearly or does it develop as you are closer to finishing the book? What do you do when and if frustration sets in when writing? Thanks Raine and Rachel.

    Hello,
Your books sound great to read. I just ordered to add to my to read list. What made you decide to have each character a different shifter? If you could meet one of your characters which one would it be? Thanks again for coming and spending the time with us. I can’t wait to read more on Rod and Damian.

By this glimpse of Rod and Damien I need to know more! Thank you for the interview and I am going to head over and pick up a copy of their stories. I can’t wait for more ‘musings’ to appear.

My question is, is it only the men of their heritage that have shifting capabilities or do the women also have this ability?

Thank you again Raine for this wonderful world.

Hello and wow, lots of folks asking questions. :) Thank you for coming by today. I am thrilled you enjoyed Muse’s interview with my two hard headed men. *grins* I had lots of fun with them and Ihope you enjoy their stories.

Now let me get to answering some questions and I see Damien & Rod also have questions as well. I will have Muse grab them since he is better at wrangling them than I am some days. *grins*

Leslie D: I never see an ending when I write. I get the blurb then characters come out to play and before I know it I am knee deep in plotline. :) Half the time the ending is a complete surprise to even me.
I take a walk, let myself breathe and read something for pure enjoyment then the next day re-read what I wrote and see if it works or not with clear eyes. Thanks for asking Leslie.
    ******
Cyd: Question for Damien and Rod-
Damien answers- one year I pulled Rod’s favorite pair of boxers out that said hot stuff with flames and in the back added in black magic marker- All smoke no flames. *grins*

Rod looks at Damien, “I liked those boxers and the permanant marker took forever to wash out. I did get him back though by having a skywriter write “Damien Dracon loves to wear pink thongs”. *hoots in laughter* He still gets comments on it now.

    Thanks Cyd J.
    *****
Heidie S: I love shifters and Damien was my first shifter story, Fiery Magic. I wanted one family to be different shifters insteadof one being one creature per say. This way it makes family gatherings very interesting. LOL I would love to meet Raven De Marco in Red Hot Magic. She is a woman cynical on love and ends up with a dream walker. She isthe anti-me. Strong, not very vulnerable excerpt in the comfort of her home and is tired of the dating scene. The second favorite would be Grady O’Neil in my next Devon Falls book- Moonlight & Magic. This is going to be the first M/M Devon Falls story so it should be interesting. :)
    ***********
Nienne: Wonderful question. Well I am still building the series up so you never know. Damien and Rod could have a cousin who is just as nuts as they are. :)It is something to explore now. *Smiles*
    **********
Nancy G.: I am planning at least two more novellas then a wrap up in a bigger book but nothing is ever set in stone. I love Devon Falls and the secondary characters keep yelling for stories. *grins* Muse is very busy in plotting and answering their questions. I can’t say no but then again anything is possible.
    *************
Stacy S: Devon Falls is a cross between my home town in Western Ny and all the wonderful places I saw traveling in the southwest when I was in my 20’s. I mixed them all up and added a dash of paranormal stirred and then created a town where on certain holidays, love finds its way to them. :)
    **************
Fallon Hadley: I am currently writing a Contemporary M/M called Second Chances. It is my first one and it is a story of lost love found againa nd two characters whoa re so right for each other who get a second chance at love after several years apart. Then I have a BDSM Series coming in 2010 called Club Fantasy and a Sci Fi/Futuristic Series as well. :) My first love is Paranormal so I expect to keep myself involved in ghosts, demons and more in the future.
    *****************
Thanks for the questions guys. I appreciate the positive comments and hope you enjoy the books. You are welcome to email me or post comments onmy blog/readers loop as well. :) I love hearing from readers.

    Raine D.

    Next wave of questions.

Robyn L: Asked question to Damien and Rod

Rod: Favorite thing about Devon Falls? Um the women? *OUCH! What the hell…..” rubbinghis head and glares at Damien.

Damien: Stop being an idiot and answer this readers question nicely.

Rod: Fine, to be perfectly honest, it is the feeling of home after being away for a bit. Devon Falls is like your childhood home where you go visit and nothing replaces it no matter where you are. :)

Damien: I love the way you can walk down the street and just relax being yourself. No crime really, nature at its finest and frankly the food is wonderful here. The town always seems to celebrate the holidays in grand fashion and you always know your neighbors are t here to help out if you need it.

Raine answers: I love the way the residents come together. They don’t need starbucks or a wal mart but create th eir own niches that works for them. :) It was a nice change to the maddening world we live in now with every techno thing around 24/7.
    ***********
Shell: Muse enjoys white chocolate, cheesecake and hot chocolate with maybe green tea during the day. He is not very picky though if he is in his “zone”, he forgets to eat. *sighs*

I love reading this genre. I like JR Ward, Patricia Briggs, Keri Arthur and others in this genre and my favorite e book authors keep me on my toes as well. :)
    Thanks for the questions.
    **************
    Heather C: Muse question

Muse answers: Well, Raine was blathering on a book she read about a to stupid to live characters and a friend challenged her to write something. I came out of the closet so to speak and forced her to give the other guys a break because seriously, have you ever had several characters in your head just netering away needlessly? Itis the worst case of torture I can imagine. *shudders*
    Thanks for the question.
    ************
MIndy: Thanks for the comments and question.

Damien: Best thing about Devon Falls? Hmm has to be the fact we have family and friends here. I have been to Europe (Rod sneaks in and whispers-and long legged models drapped all over him- and races out again)and frankly no where else have found the ambiance that makes Devon Falls unique.
    ***********
Lakisha: I haven’t been to any conventions since i am painfully shy in real life. I know amazing since I am wild online in loops some days but *laughs* in real life no go. *sigh* I hope to make a conventionin the future, just so I can meet my author friends in real life and meet some wonderful readers.
    ***********
Katie: Hey my lovely m anager. You keep me sane you now that. LOL

We decorate the back porch with corn stalks, pumpkins and scarecrow for Halloween and thanksgiving. We go trick or treating with the kids for a bit then DH and I watch a s omewhat scary movie (I hate horror films). This year DH is having a horror movie fest with his siblings.

    Thanks for coming by,

For someone who hasn’t read the books, what color is Damien’s scales (hope that’s not really a spoiler)? Dragons are my favorite animal (asides from Bears and horses).

Wow more questions. *Smiles* Well let me take a stab *haha* at them for y’all. :)

Sharon K: The hardest book? Hmmmm I have to say my latest WIP’s. One is about a gamma ray explosion in space hitting earth and I am doing science research to make sure I have all the technical terms down (basis of my Space Pirates series) and the other is Club Fantasy which is a paranormal BDSM Trilogy centered on specific rooms. I am researching this lifestyle so I can use the aspects I need to correctly.

Keep Damien and Rod in check? *laughs hysterically* I swear those two drove me freaking nuts when I was writing their stories. Damien’s was a bit more emotional but Rod’s was pure fun. :)I just threatened them with bodily harm by their mates. LOL

    Thanks for the question.
    *********
Misty: Club Fantasy is a new trilogy I am working on for AMP. Itis a paranormal club with a half-demon of lust as owner and each book will be centered around a specific room. You can find more information onmy website.
    *********
Ann Marie B: Yes I am. Next up is Grady’s story. You meet him in Haunting Magic and this time he finds himself falling for someone he never expected. *grins* Sorry Can’t say no more. Moonlight & Magic is the title. :)
    *********
Raonaid Luckwell: Damien’s scales are a dark emerald green with a blue underbelly. :)
    ********
Tamara S.: I love shifters of all kinds. For myself, it is the primal wildness you feel when their animal comes out to play though I am partial to cats. I love were cats. :)
    *********
Deana H.: What sets this series apart from other? Well for one I think it is the fact this is set around a paranormal town and destiny seems to find people there on certain holidays. All Devon Falls books are centered around a holiday with the exception being the very last one. :) That wil be the only one not around a holiday.
    *********
Raquel Vega-Grieder: I find it every where. I read an article on Gamma Ray Explosion in space and it is the basis of my futuristic series. I wrote Fiery magic with the song “Want to make amemory” by Bon Jovi flowing in my head each day to keep me in the zone, especially when Iwas writing Damien and Alicia’s scenes.
It is everything and more. It can be a song, a news article a passing “what if” thought. I just run with it and sometime it pans out and other times it is just for fun. :)
    **********
Denise Varga: I never set out to be a writer, it just happened in the last few years. I mkept reading really awful books IMHO. Lotsof TSTL characters that made me want to smack them silly. A friend who also wrote challeneged me to write something better and after a few false starts, Devon Falls was born. I combine my loveof strong characters with romance and stir in a little passion and then hope it mixes right. :)
    ********
Lisa B: It took me a few tries and I have one awful book in a box in my mother’s basement that will NEVER come out of storage. It was awful. *grins* It took a few months for me to become comfortable writing what was in my head and making it all sound sane and in complete sentences. *grins*
    **********
Darchole: Well onmine I have Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera series (Waiting for the last book in November), Gail Z. Martin’s Necromancer series, JD Ward’s latest Blackdagger book and her newest spinoff, Covert, Kim Harrison’s new Young Adult and so many more it would take me forever to name them all.

Damien: I am into Jim Butcher’s Dresden series. I find this series very funny and interesting.

Rod: Read? Does playgirl count? Really I read it for the articles only. No nuddie pics. :P Seriously, I like the classics, Bram strokers Dracula, Frankenstein and Charles Dickens.
    ***********
Beverley: Oh man seriously I like running water and air to breathe so Space Pirates is out and CLub Fantasy sounds like fun but again I am not sure I am up to the task of being a mate to two very horny demons. :)So nope, not really.

Top ten things they cannot live without huh? Ok here it goes. Just don’t blame me for Rod’s answers. :)

Damien: Alicia, sex, love, water, books, music, guiness beer, pepporoni pizza, My mom’s donuts.

Rod: Beer, Sex, Subs, my mom’s pumpkin pie, open spaces for a run, sex, leather pants or jeans, my ipod full of tunes and if I have to, Jaxon.

    Thanks for the questions.
    ************
Shaine K: If I could shapeshift I would turn into a were cat..possibly a jaguar or lioness. I love the big cats. So controlled and strong. :)
    *******
Thank you all for coming out. I hope you can check out my youtube video for Haunting Magic. It is also onmy blog and at Blazing Trailers as well.

Thank you Bitten by books for having me here today. I really enjoyed my self.

Hi guys and thanks for more questions. :) I am goign to answer what I can before my doctor’s appointment but if I didn’t answer your question, I will this afternoon. :)
    ************
Belinda: I have another Devon Falls book I am currently writing called Moonlight & Magic. You meet Grady O’Neil in Haunting Magic and this is his story. :) It should come out early 2010.All my books are e-books right now but hopefully they will come out in print but that is at the discretion of my publisher so please write AMP and see if they can go into print. :)
    **********
Moonsanity: Rod likes heavy metal stuff like Metallica, White Zombie, AC/DC, etc. Damien is into classical music
    ***********
REB: I love dragons and this was a natural fit for Damien to be one and my wolf shifters are genetic. This means they cannot bite someone to be a shifter but be born into a family of shifters. Each person is unique and it doesn’t have to be two wolves having a wolf shifter. Case in point- Damien is a dragon while his twin Rodrick is a wolf shifter.
It jsut depends on what genes are dominant at the time.
    ************
Eli N: I am very shy around people I do not know and I love fairies. :)
    ************
    iokijo asked- What’s your favorite paranormal/sci-fi/fantasy character..any medium ?
Well I love JR Ward’s Brother hood series/vampires alot and give me one of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters please for desert! YUM!
For fantasy I am really into Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera series and his main character Tavi is very multi-dimensional.

Well I got post cards of this cover so email me at raine (AT) yahoo (DOT) com to get one. :)
    ****************
Dovile: Well I would love to see one as a movie but alas I couldn’t choose at all which one.
    *********
Lisa D: yes I do. LOL Each character is unique and I love fighting them to get their story out there.
    ***********
Tamsyn: I love to cook just haven’t had much time lately. :) I really enjoy baking at the holidays. The kids help me and they also learn as well.
    ************
Linda T: Actually a werecat is popping up in the future and possibly a few other kinds of shifters as well. :)

    Hi Raine
I would rather have a book in my hands than an e-book because of an eye condition called photophobia but after reading your interview above between Rodrick, Muse and Damien I’m going to have to buy it. Do you know if they have any policy about what happens if you crash your computer and getting a copy you have already paid for? I have crashed 5 computers in the last 3 months and anything on them was lost. If I buy an e-book and my computer crashes do you know if I would have to buy it again? I think that’s why I like books, that and my eye condition makes it hard to look at computer monitors for long especially back on a white background. Although I will chance it because I really want to find out more about the two brothers. I really loved the interview and I just know the books will be as good.

Oh my *smiles* I think you all liked this interview. :) Ok will answer these questions:

Virginia: Hey there Virginia and as of right now, I have another Devon Falls book called Moonlight & Magic I am begining to write for a possible February 2010 release. :)
    ***************************
Steph M: I love to read, doesn’t matter if it magazines, newspapers or books, I read anything I can that interests me. :) After reading a favorite author’s latest book (title not to be mentioned), it didn’t please me and since I was gripping on how the characters acted like they were TSTL, an author friend dared me to write something better. After a few false starts, I created Devon Falls. What inspires me? Reader comments and the general “Oh I like the sound of this” comments I get. It makes me happy to hear and inspires me to write more for the readers are what authors are all about.
    ***************************
Hi Belinda: Right now my books are in E-book format but hopefullyin the future *knockon wood* all of the Devon Falls books will be in one volume. Keep an eye out on my blog/website for more infomation.
My advice is to contact where ever you biught your e books and have them decide what to do. I am not sure as many p laces have different policies.
    ******************************
Chris: Hi there- least favorite genre is horror. I can not reador write it at all. Heck I can’t even stand 20 minutes in a Stephan king movie before I am cringing and screaming. LOL I know a major wuss.
    **************************************
Steve: Hmm I take this is for Damien/Rod Steve.

Rod: Well I don’t want to blow the entire plot for Haunting Magic since Raine would kill me but I think I would have tried to win Jax over more gently instead of storming her defenses but you have to read the book to see what I mean. :)

Damien: I have alot to atone for with Alicia and I regret that I caused her pain. In Fiery magic you get an understanding into what happened and why. :)

    ************
Thank you guys for the great questions.
