Ugh — that was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make — well, almost!

So was Charlaine Harris, can’t remember whose book I read first. Same time, I also love Richelle Mead’s VA series. So if one of those 3 win, I’ll be happy! :)

  73. Comment by Elie N — October 26, 2009 @ 10:19 pm

I voted for CHarris. tough choice. I love KH (adore her) and don’t throw stuff at me but I love SMeyers too. Whenever I see a pic of the books I get the warm fuzzies. But, CH has put out more (that sounded bad) so she gets my vote.

I was shocked at the results so far. I need to move CHavens up my list.

  74. Comment by Sandy G — October 26, 2009 @ 10:23 pm

I voted for Richelle Mead, because the Vampire Sub-Genre desperately needed injections of spines and hot-bloodedness, if you ask me!

Although, if Darren Shan were on there, he would have had my vote, for the most part, really!

But, I also really like the Sookie Stakhouse series by Charlaine Harris…In the end I went with Kim Harrison, because I reread her books more than Charlaine Harris’s.

    Go Charlaine Harris :}

  113. Comment by Medievalgrrl — October 27, 2009 @ 12:14 pm

Wow!! What a tough choice. For me, it was between Charlaine Harris and Kim Harrison. I really love Jenks and his family and that is what tipped the vote into Kim’s favor. But, I feel so guilty. Why couldn’t we have two votes?

I love the Ghostgirl books! Charlotte Usher, despite being dead, is a positive role model for young adult readers. The problems she faces in the afterlife are relatable to what many teenagers go through on a daily basis (the crushes, the popularity contests… school and work trials and tribulations). I hope Tonya Hurley wins this poll!

  167. Comment by Raechele Wilson-Doran — October 28, 2009 @ 3:42 pm

I’m surprised to see how well Kim Harrison is doing against Charlaine Harris and Stephanie Meyer. Not that I’m saying they’re better authors, but Ms. Harris has the True Blood series on HBO and Ms. Meyer has the Twilight series of films (with the next one coming out Nov.). I would have expected them to fair better simply due to more exposure. I LOVE Ms. Harrison’s work. I’ve read everything of hers, including her short stories (as well as all the works of Ms. Harris and Ms. Meyers). They all have their own merits. I love Sookie Stackhouse and her world is not much different from the one we live in, except that a human woman is discovering a world full of things that she never new were there and reacting to that world. It’s also chock full social commentary. Bella and Edward transfer to film quite well, and it’s tame enough that I can allow my kids to see it, though I didn’t like the Twilight series until the middle of the final book. I loved HOST, though. The world of Rachel Morgan is complex and incredibly well thought out. I had a hard time choosing between Ms. Harris and Ms. Harrison. I finally chose Ms. Harrison because her books have more complexity to them. It was a hard choice, though.

Hard to choose. I love Charlaine Harris and Kim Harrison, and Richelle Mead is not far behind. I love re-reading Charlaine Harris’ books, but I look forward more to Kim Harrison’s. Oh which to choose the one I read more often, or the one I look forward too. Eeny, Meeny, Miney, Mo. Kim Harrison it is.

  198. Comment by Sue — October 28, 2009 @ 8:41 pm

Definitely Richelle Mead! (Especially since she’s a former English teacher… a writer after my own heart.)

Richelle Mead. I got the chance to meet her and she is such a sweet person. Love everything she writes. If she could make me like Dorian in Thorn Queen, she definitely deserves my vote. Is it time for Succubus Shadows yet? I need to know if I love or hate Seth, I’m currently in limbo.

  213. Comment by Gina Growe — October 28, 2009 @ 10:26 pm

Hey the BEATLES want Michelle cause they wrote a song about her…seriously, are you gonna go against the BEATLES!

“Michelle (Rowen) ma-bell, these are words that go to-gether well, you’re so swell”

“Michelle (Rowen) don’t tell, we the BEATLES love you oh so well, ma-Michelle”…I’m pretty sure they don’t want you to tell cause, you know, it’s four guys and one girl…guess Yoko didn’t tear them apart after all.

Well, this is all according to their song so don’t be haters…ohhh! Here’s a little cheer for you M.R.!

“Go go Rowen your no hag!”
“Kick the other authors in their book bags.” Hey, I didn’t say it was good - I’m just trying to pump it up a notch.

Gina Growe in Springfield, IL where she absolutely loves all the authors in this contest and has their books to show it…you two Dakota Cassidy and Mark Henry.

    Tres bien ensemble…”

I have read Kim, Richelle, and Stephenie… Just started reading Kim and I am really loving her book Dead Witch Walking… but I love the flexibility that Richelle Mead has with both her Succubus books being more geared to adults, and then her VA books that appeal to the younger more modest crowd.

She creates an awesome world with her words. Love it! Had to go with Richelle.

Richelle Mead is not only an awesome writer, she also appreciates her fans, she communicates with them regularly via blog, etc. Even when she was on tour just recently for a whole month in a different city almost every day, she was always smiling and making her fans feel appreciated.

I have to go with Kim Harrison. The Hollows series just draws me in and makes me wish this world was real. Plus it easily could have happened with just a couple history tweaks. So yeah, Kim Harrison rocks.

  276. Comment by jmspettoli — October 30, 2009 @ 12:13 am

I would have to choose Kim Harrison for sure.

    KMM forever!!!

  280. Comment by Doniki B. — October 30, 2009 @ 3:45 am

For me, it was a real toss up between Karen Marie Moning and Kim Harrison. GAH! You made me choose.

I love Kim Harrison’s playful tone. Also I can really relate to her characters. They’re wonderful, screwy, and insecure.

Karen Marie Moning….woah. Her Fever series is just EPIC. And the guy who narrates the audiobooks is just….woo.

I ended up going with KMM but that decision tore me up (well, as much as an online poll can tear a person up. I didn’t cry or anything, no worries. Maybe on a metaphysical level though. Just a little.)

Tough choice but I have to go with Charlaine Harris- Ive been reading her for years- way back when she was writing Aurora Teagarden. I met her once and she is just a fabulous person, plus she just nails the whole Louisiana/Southern life thing. I so love Sookie.

Kim Harrison is also so fabulous. So many great books, so little time…..

  286. Comment by Allison S-R — October 30, 2009 @ 8:56 am

This is a really tough choice with all the talented authors to select from, but I am going to have to pick Karen Marie Moning. Love the Fever and her Highlanders!!

I voted for Charlene Harris because, I know you will all be surprised, but her and Stephanie Meyer are the only two I recognize the name from stuff I have actually read and I don’t care for Stephanie Meyer.

KMM all the way. 100% hooked me with Mac and JZB and I’m now addicted to the Highlanders. Sitting on pins and needles waiting for the next release on Mac.

  300. Comment by Misty T — October 30, 2009 @ 1:04 pm

I love all the authors nominated and some that deserved to be nominated but were not. Oh well, maybe next year for J.R. Ward. I voted for KMM for making me want to pull my hair out because I have to wait another year for the next installment and she always keep us hanging on to edge of our seats with her endings to each of her Mac Fae books. I would have to say next would be Charlaine Harris and Stephanie Meyers. I think the readers will agree we have a love hate relationship with all of the great authors because we can’t wait to get the next great book, and believe me its a long Wait!!!!!

It was hard for me to choose Stephanie Meyer or Karen Marie Moning over each other. I decided to stick with KMM because I’ve been reading her books for so much longer than Meyers. :)

  322. Comment by Glenys — October 31, 2009 @ 8:46 am

So many great writers to choose from, I decided to go beyond talent and voted for Candace Havens. She’s got talent in spades, but she’s also generous in helping other writers. Gotta admire that!

I’ve read the majority of all these writers. I liked them all. But I love Candace Haven’s way of writing and making me feel an “uneasiness.” She gets my vote.

Tonya Hurley and her Ghost Girl -y make my twisted soul go all swirly!!!

Go Candace! Yes all the author are fine writers, but Candace Havens is consistently #1 for me. It’s about the whole package, who she is and what she does to help others. I’m rooting for you, Candace!

Karen Marie Moning all the way! I’m addicted to the Fever series. I’m on my third read. What are you, JZB?

  330. Comment by Erin Hennesay — October 31, 2009 @ 11:24 am

Karen Marie Moning absolutely! Not just her fever series, but her highlander series as well. And she connected the two series which is amazing. She is also going to write 2 more series that will be interconnected with those. That takes some awesome talent. I can’t wait to read the final book in the fever series. But, then I will just be anxious for the first in the next series. I am a definite fan of the Fae and love all the writings of Karen Marie Moning.

  337. Comment by Mooncatx — November 21, 2009 @ 12:56 pm

Tough choices because I read and love many of these writers, but Richelle Mead for the win. She has three series ongoing, and each one is a solid fascinating read. Succubus, Vampires, Elves, three distinctly different worlds each fully fledged with characters, intrigues, mysteries and power plays. I genuinely like her main characters and am always rooting for them in each book. If you haven’t already read Richelle Mead, I highly recommend all her series. Read them, Love them!
