Release Party, Chat and Contest with Author Christine Rose

Posted under Contests, Guest Bloggers, Site News by Site Hostess on Thursday 15 October 2009 at 8:30 am
*****

A huge thank you to Rachel and Bitten By Books for hosting this Vampirific Release Party for our second book, Witch on the Water! I’m thrilled to be here with all of you today, and I will be stopping by several times throughout the day today (and into tomorrow), so please ask me anything you’d like.

I love vampires. I’ve loved vampires for so long, I can’t remember when my passion for them began. I certainly devoured Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles when I was in college, but I seem to remember having an interest in them even before that. Back in high school, one of my favorite films was the silly “Love at First Bite” with George Hamilton. Something about the allure and mystery attracted me back then, but now it’s all about the tragedy and the darkness.

Sure, sadistic and bloodthirsty vampires are great, but give me some depth of character. Why are they so sadistic and bloodthirsty? What make them so very evil?

With the current cultural obsession with Twilight, I’m very glad vampires are back in the spotlight. Everywhere I go, I see generic T-shirts and buttons that say things like “Forget Princess, I want to be a Vampire” and “I’m in love with a vampire.” They’re all, of course, geared toward the sparkly Edward, but the vampire I’m in love with… it’s gotta be Spike (with Angel a very close second).

Angel’s story is tragic, but it was William’s story that truly touched me. For Angel was just a monster when he lost his soul, but Spike had depth even when soulless. He was a poet, a very bad poet. He suffered the humiliation and ridicule of his peers, and that’s something with which I can personally identify, so I felt it deeply with Spike. He watched his mother become a demon and lose all humanity and decency, when he was able to keep his even without his soul. Then he had to kill her. This touched me. He found his savior, the love of his life, in Buffy, but he always got in his own way with her. He fought to win back his soul for her, to be a better man, but that just caused him more pain and drove him insane.

Spike is tragedy incarnate. A character who started off as the “big bad” of the season and ended up being the greatest love of Buffy’s life and saving the world.

Still, Angel is hot, albeit broody, so.. . perhaps Angel and Spike together, as Buffy says, with oil of some kind involved. :-D

So, through Whedon-the-Wise’s teachings, I’ve created a tragic vampire of my own in Fiana. I hope you enjoy her delicious darkness as much as I do.

I agree, SPIKE is way better than Edward. I guess I prefer the bad boy vampires!

What vampire are you in love with and why? When did your love for vampires begin? What would you do if you came face to face with a real vampire?

I have a few favorites, all for different reasons-As a kid I loved to watch Bela Lagosi in the Dracula movies, he was so scary but I felt sorry for him. I’m a sucker for the underdog. Along those lines I also have a spot for Lestat, Anne Rice’s perfectly evil vamp. One of my favorites of late is Kim Harrison’s vamp Kisten. He has all the bad boy traits and also a tender heart. I also love JR Wards whole Vamp world: luscious, dominate men, whats not to like? LOL

Edward’s okay, but what ever happened to Louis and Lestat? Those two ignited my obsession with vampires. There have been many others along the way, but you never forget your first love(s). :-)

    5, 6, and 8 done and I RSVPed.

So I take it from your enthusiasm about Edward (NOT), cold and sparkly doesn’t do it for you? What about with batteries involved? (I couldn’t resist (>:)

Christine, I understand what you mean about loving vampires so long you can’t remember when it started. I think Twilight did good things to bring back the love of vamps but there are better, more delicious vamps out there. My personal fav is Kisten but that is a whole other can of worms.
So what is your favorite thing about vampires? And what is stereotype about these delectable creatures is the most annoying?

    I second that, Lori! :-D
And, no, cold and sparkly doesn’t really do it for me … although with batteries… hmmmmm…. after it’s been in the refrigerator for that “authentic” feel.

Mindy: My favorite thing about vampires is the darkness. I especially like those tragic ones trying to be good … or just who love being bad (like Damon). Most annoying stereotype? Perhaps that they sleep in coffins? Although my Fiana travels in one, certainly keeps out the light of day. I like what the short-lived series “Moonlight” tried to do with having them sleep in a freezer to keep from decaying. That was interesting.

Two votes for Kisten! I’ll have to check out that series!

And, yeah, whatever did happen to Louis? My first vampire love, too. I remember how I cringed when I heard they cast Tom Cruise as Lestat. I said, “Whatever!” but he was actually really good, as was Pitt. But then they are both quite fine actors. Good in whatever they’re in.

First off let me say I love your websites and blog. As for the questions, Spike or Julien (from The Kindred) would definitely be my faves tv/film vampire. I have been in love with vampires for as long as I can remember. They are just such wonderful characters. One of my favorite movies is also a campy 80’s film, called Once Bitten. JIm Carey before anyone knew who he was. And one As for what I would do, honestly I probably wouldn’t believe them, but after they proved they were a vampire I’d seduce them.

Move over Christine— Spike is mine besides you have Ethan!!! You have got to love a pale vamp who can handle a blonde dye job. I would have to say my love of Vamps in literature started with Mikhail in Christine Feehan’s books — that scene where he demands she stays alive —my fave.

Questions - Movie version of your book? Whats your ideal cast?

Wooo! Yes! I have always loved Spike. I am actually doing part of my thesis on him and what it means to be human- Spike was human even after he lost his soul.

Lets see… my love affair with vampires started long before buffy because I used to pick up some paranormal fiction but I would have to say that Buffy really did start it all. Drusilla was just amazing in my eyes, I even named a doll I had after her when I was younger and watching the show.

If I came across a real vampire? Hopefulyl not freak out too badly, who wants a screaming fan girl chasing them down the street? No one, thats who. And ask very, very nicely if I could please be a vampire too.

Lets see now… a question of my own… Hmm… OKay, here goes. When writing a new scene, how long does it take you to get it just right?

    Thanks Ursula!

Dianne - OF COURSE! PA! I remember now. :-D We went through PA briefly on the way to/from the Buffalo Irish Festival. Any Celtic/Irish/Scottish festivals near you?

Sharon K.: Perhaps the better question would be what *didn’t* I do before becoming an author. :-D I’ve been an English teacher (in fact I still teach a Composition course at Austin Community College), a massage therapist, Dell employee (which is where I wrote the first draft of “Rowan of the Wood,” a freelance graphic designer, and a pizza delivery girl back in college.

The hardest book to write was probably the second, “Witch on the Water,” only because it was difficult to find the time to write while promoting the first one on the Geekalicious Grand Book Tour.

Marnie: I can handle both Ethan *and* Spike, thank you very much. ;-D
Oooooh … I love this question! My IDEAL CAST for a Movie Version! Here are a few:
Rowan = Kevin McKidd (but of course!)
Fiana = not sure, but Daisy McCraken, Stana Katic, and the amazing Rachel Weisz have all been considered
Cullen & the girls = likely “unknowns”
    Aidan = Molly C. Quinn
    James = James Marsters
    Ralph = Nathan Fillion
Ms. MacFey — Hmmm. Good question. Any suggestions?

Thank you for coming. There is not one vampire I like, I like tons of them. Unfortunately, too many to name. I believe the most recent that has topped my list is Jason Rourke. Stuck in a painting for years, unable to behind the trapped glass unless he is called to come out.

My question is, outside of vampires, are there other genre’s you like and would you write in other genre’s.
Thank you for spending your time with us.

    3,4,5,6,& 8 are done.

    Thanks,

Thanks for participating in SEND WITCH to the TOP, Jo K! Be sure to tweet it when you get it with @christinerose in the tweet!

Seri: New scene. Well, that depends on the scene. Sometimes it just comes out near perfect, naturally. Other times it takes quite a lot of work. Many authors are too long winded, finding the most difficult thing is to cut back their words. I’m the opposite. I keep going back over and over trying to be more descriptive. I think it stems from being so intensely goal-oriented. I say what I want and get to the point. Quite the opposite of my in person, who rarely stops talking long enough to take a breath. :-D

    *I RSVP’d
    Responses to your questions
*I love Angel from Buffy because he was just so darn hot and sexy and mysterious all at the same time. Even when he was evil you couldn’t ignore the YUM factor.
*The earliest recollection I have of a vampire would have to be probably a Looney Tunes episode with a vampire character…I know I know…not exactly hot or sexy but that’s what got me intrigued and since then I’ve been a fan of the fang toothed lovers :P
*If I came face to face with a vampire, well, I would probably be scared a little..apprehensive…and then delighted to find out that they exist…but I have conditions! They have to be the vampires who are the good guys and not so much the blood-thirsty evil vampire monsters.

    QUESTIONS FOR CHRISTINE
*Hypothetically speaking, if you had the option to be turned…would you?
*Do you collect any vampire memorabilia? If so, how large is the collection and what sorts of things do you collect?

Urusla: That’s tough! Faith is just so bad ass and gorgeous, but Buffy gets both Angel *and* Spike. Hmmmm…. Then there is Anita Blake (but BEFORE the whole ardeur thing hits).

Bridget H: Trade places with someone? That’s hard because my life is pretty great. I get to work with my husband, do what I love, and travel the country, etc. I’d like to trade bodies with Jennifer Aniston or Eliza Dushku (and still be able to eat dark chocolate and drink pumpkin mochas :-D). I wouldn’t say no to J.K. Rowlings position and how she’s touched the hearts of millions, not to mention her place in Scotland!

Thanks so much, Rachel! Ethan is back at our booth (at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival) making crossbows and vampire slayer kits. I’m the techo-addict of the two.

Favorite episode of Buffy? Hands down: Once More with Feeling

Congratulations on your book release, Christine.

I love reading books, but I can imagine the difficulty in relating the stories in my head to paper. What do you like best about a career as an author? and on the same note, what do you like the least?

I considered your questions to me and came up with the following:

What vampire are you in love with and why? I love men (vampires included) who are comfortable with who they are, who have a good soul, but yet have that bad boy side that makes them so attractive. I guess that would mean Jean Claude (Anita Blake series) and Eric Northman (Southern Vampire Mysteries) both own my heart.

When did your love for vampires begin? I have always been attracted to the “dark side” even when I was a little girl and I wanted to watch all the really scary horror movies that my parents said were too old for me. However, Anne Rice really drove home my love for vampires. Maybe I should have considered Lestat in the first question. LOL!

What would you do if you came face to face with a real vampire? It’s hard to say since if vampires really did exist, I doubt if they would be romanticized (sp?) as they are in the books I love to read. If he or she was friendly though I would want to talk for hours on the things they have seen having lived for so long.

    Thanks,
    Theresa Davis

Hi Christine!!! I am so happy to find someone else who loves Spike too. I have to say that is song in the all music ep was perfect. I just think he is just more interesting than Angel. How many vamps do you know that are hooked on soap operas? lol I was all for Angel and Buffy until I saw Angel and Spike. My first love of the vamps came from Buffy. :) Well, what I would do depends on what kind of vamps I came across. Are they Buffy or Twilight vamps or are they more all about killing vamps? Big difference!!!

Ok, enough about Buffy. Can you tell me more about Witch on the Water? Is it the sequal to Rowan of the Wood?

Theresa: My favorite part of life as an author is working and traveling the country with my family (Ethan and “the girls” [3 dogs & a cat]) in the Geekalicious Gypsy Caravan. Meeting our fans and connecting with new, interesting people. Writing. Creating characters and sometimes working out troubles or conflicts in the writing.

The least? The uncertainty. No health insurance or job security. Feast or famine living. Non. Stop. Work.

Heather. There is never enough of Buffy!

Witch on the Water *is* the sequel to Rowan of the Wood. It’s darker. Edgier. You get to know Fiana more and see more of her deliciously sadistic side. Cullen begins to lose his innocence. More of how the wand got from Scotland to N. CA is revealed. Preliminary reviews & testimonials have been great!

What I like about your writing is it’s gets to the point and then on with the story. My love of vampires started with staying up on Friday nights with my mother and watching all of the old vampire and werewolf movies!! Saturday night nightmare was fun the next night also. My love of reading started when I was into the Trixie Beldon books and then I found vampire books and have never stopped yet! LOVE Spike! James Marsters in person is a total sweetheart in person (and WARM, which is only confusing if you’ve been watching too much Buffy or reading Spuffy fanfic). I also like Kim Harrison’s Kisten.

Loved vampires since I can remember and if I met one would probably help take out bad people.

I read the free chapters of Rowan and loved your descriptions and take on the dark side of childhood. What made you choose to write young adult? Do you have any particular experiences you draw from for Cullen?

Thank you for adoring Spike for the same reasons I do. Now I have backup for the naysayers who insist he always acts soulless. :)

I’ve dressed as a vampire many times. Probably most kids see the Count from Sesame Street first. :)

Welcome, Christine!! I have been excited about this event. & I can’t wait to read the new book! *squeeee*

I love what you said about Spike!! He’s still my favorite. I honestly don’t find Edward attractive. I agree w/you about liking vampire stuff being in stores, etc I just don’t think Edward would win in a fight against Edward. (ohhh I would pay to see that! Angel in the mix also)

My obsession with vampires started young. (say 7) I was allowed to watch all kinds of movies with my dad. (while my mom would say, “why do you let her watch that?” I remember finding out that vamps had no reflections in mirrors. In bed, I faced the giant mirror in my room. I used to constanly peak over my shoulder to make sure no vampire was standing in my room or behind me. It scared me to death - but at the same time I remember being fascinated by the idea of having no reflection. I was intrigued by vampires & the ideas behind them. The idea of living forever fascinated me! I have vivid memories of trying to go to sleep - but imagining where I’d go. I watched any vampire movie I could! Then I remember sitting in the theater years later watching “Interview w/the Vampire” & thinking how alluring vamps were. The power they have over you. I’m not explaining this well - I just remember how sexy I found the idea. (minus the blood drinking! ;) )

What I would do if I ran into one - depends! If it’s Edwarx - I’d wash his hair & give him a haircut. Oh & sock him. If it is a Spike-type… Well, that is a WHOLE other story! :)

my question to you, Christine - in that recent episode of Supernatural where someone you idolize comes to get you. Who would your’s be?? & a different one - pick 2 you would like to see duke it out. (like a “squirrely fruitarian” Gandhi VS Paris Hilton) Who would you pick & who would win??

Sorry this is long! I will comment again with my list of what I have done. Have a great day! Nice to see you here, Christine!

My love for vampires began fairly young. In high school I found out about Anne Rice. Right now I’m in love with J.R. Ward vamps, but I do still love Spike. :) If I met a Vampire I hope I wouldn’t run screaming away or act like a love crazed fangirl. ;) I’d probably have to have him show me he’s really a vampire.

Thanks Tawania! You’re helping RELEASE THE MAGIC!

Lisa, I hope you’re right about the newsletter!

R.E.B.: You’ve MET MARSTERS?! Totally jealous!
We chose YA because it’s mostly what Ethan and I read! Although steamy sex scenes and heavy paranormal romance certainly have their place (I’m considering writing one, actually), we wanted a true crossover book that the entire family can enjoy, kids of all ages y’know! Cullen’s life is loosely based on Ethan’s childhood. He grew up in foster care in the redwood forest and would lose himself in books.

WHAT?! I would argue that Spike *rarely to never* acts soulless, even when he was. Not like Angelus (or even Caleb)!

    Hi Libby!
I think it would have to be Shakespeare, although I also idolize Gandhi (that was pretty fricken funny). I think Gandhi would kick Paris Hilton’s ass! How about Billy the Kid and Queen Elizabeth I. Liz would win that one.

I can’t really remember when I first started loving vampires, in third grade we where to write a fiction story about a creature, around holloween, and that was when I started writing about vampires. I still have that story.
My favorite vampires would be Lastet, he was the evil of all evil, JR Ward’s guys are GREAT too, yummy to read about. Bones from Jeaniene Frost, Halfway to the Grave is awesome too. If vampires walked the earth today, and I saw any of these guys, I would see if he would agree to answer some of my questions first, if he agreed, (I would have a million questions) I would ask him if he would like to go have coffee or something like that and just sit and stare. Then maybe get to my questions, after he stops laughing at me, for staring…
    2. I have not read your books but my 11yr old and 9 yr old know all about them. The one wanted to know why you put a 1400yr old wizard in the body of a 12 yr old? or maybe that was me and she said “read the book Nana”. Where did you get the idea for this character? I’m always interested in how writers come up with their main characters. Maybe its because of me writing and I get asked that a lot. Good luck with your book, and I will be reading them soon. As soon as I can get them from my granddaughters.

I’m in love with so many vampires, it’s rediculous! To name a few.. Angel and Spike [for sure!], all of the boys from J. R. Ward’s series.. and a whole lot more!
My love of vampires came so long ago I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love them!
If I came face to face with a real vampire, I’d probably attack him [if it was a guy, if it was a girl, I'd be like "awesome" and just talk..], kiss him crazy, then ask him to bite me. :)

So, Christine, where do you come up with your book ideas?

Deana: It’s a blend of Celtic Mythology mixed with Vampire Mythos in a modern-day magical adventure tale. There are actual historical events blended with pure fantasy. For example, in “Witch on the Water,” we have a scene where Fiana turns James during the 1918 Flu Epidemic in NYC.

Peggy: I think there is some of me and Ethan in many of the characters. Ms. MacFey is the teacher I wish I could’ve been. Trudy is the mother I was afraid I’d be, which is one reason I don’t have children. Frank is every closed-minded, redneck jerk I’ve ever known, and I’ve known a few growing up in small-town Texas. Rowan and Fiana’s love is as strong and intense as what Ethan and I share, although I’m not sure I’d have the strength to keep the darkness at bay for 700 years. :-D

Heidi: The idea for Rowan came to me after I was thinking about what makes Superheores and stories like Harry Potter span generational and international gaps. I had the idea for a magical superhero, who eventually became Rowan. I wanted also to incorporate an “orphan hero” to reach kids having a hard time or who are actual orphans or living in foster care (like Ethan was). So many of these stories helped Ethan through some of the rougher times growing up. And a child is the ultimate alter-ego for a superhero. But then the child realizes it’s not all great, finding a wizard changes his life in ways he could never have imagined.

Jeanette: Yes! Lots of other paranormal characters! Some demons are great. Other are just really gross!! Fairies, Elves, Unicorns, Centaurs, and ESPECIALLY DRAGONS! The third book, Fire of the Fey, will have a dragon central to the plot.

Kayla: I gather inspiration from other things I’ve read and from life! My nephews were great inspiration for the birth of this series, and Joss Whedon is a continuing inspiration. He’s a master storyteller.

Hhahahhah, this sounds great. Unfortunately, I do not share the interests in any vampire movies. I have not watched movies like Buffy or Interview with a Vampire. Mostly because I am from another country, and was only recently allowed to be interested in vamps. So I have not read about Dracula, or any of Anne Rice’s books.
What vampire are you in love with and why? There are lots of vamp. hotties out there, I have not seen any real-flesh vamps yet, except Edward, and I am not in love with him. Hmm, I like Bones, but I lean toward Mircea more. (the author is Karen Chance) Mircea is a master vamp who cares a lot about his “family” of vampires. I always liked Princes and since Mircea is based on Mircea, who is Vlad Tepesh’s older brother, he is somewhat of a prince. I also like people who are step faster than other people, people who can plan and Mircea is one.
When did your love for vampires begin? I honestly don’t know, but I started to like anything supernatural after Cole from Charmed. My first crush was a demon, oh my. What would be my first vampire book? *sigh* I don’t remember.
What would you do if you came face to face with a real vampire? If I came face to face with a real vamp…it would depend on where we are. If we are alone in a dark place, I would probably try not to attract the attention of the big-baddie. If we were in a public place I would probably watch closely. If he was good looking I would probably do a little dance but I wouldn’t approach. If the vamp. was a she I would do the same thing.

My question to you would be: Is humor something that you are born with or you have to work at it?

    I RSVPed.
    Thank you for coming!

Aurora: I first had the idea for this story on a plane ride from TX to OR, and I was so excited that I prayed the plane wouldn’t crash before I had a chance to tell it. Then it just haunted me. Every day for another year it rolled around in my brain, formulating and developing, until I finally decided to write it as a novel. Then it just came pouring out.

I decided to answer Christine’s questions as my comment since I too love vampires.

What vampire are you in love with and why?
I also loved Spike and Angel for pretty much the same reasons you mentioned. I think Spike kind of reminded me of my most favorite vampire of all time, Lestat. They both started out ultra bad, but evolved over time as they searched for a way to rediscover their humanity.

When did your love for vampires begin?
I remember seeing “Dracula” with Frank Langella when I was about 9 or 10. While it scared the crap out of me, I think that is where I really started loving all things vampire! I also loved “Love at First Bite”!

What would you do if you came face to face with a real vampire?
Run…no, just kidding. Probably try to convince them to turn me =o)

Christine! I am so glad they featured you today, I am so excited to read your books. Great interview!! I especially loved the tidbit about Spike, yum =) ….The vampires I am currently in love with are Vishous and Revhenge from the Black Dagger Brotherhood… I am also in love with Eric Northman from the Sookie series. I actually and probably in love with 12 vampires, now that I think about it. My love for vampires began in 9th grade when I first saw Interview with a Vampire… I already loved to read fantasy at that time and that’s when I started reading paranormal too. If I met a vampire in real life I would probably be too excited/shocked to speak. I would just have a MASSIVE grin on my face.

Hi Christine Thanks for coming!! I Loved Loved Loved Rowan and can’t wait to read Witch. As for when did my love for Vampires begin. My Mom loves Halloween and movies about Vampires, Werewolves, Mummy etc. so I was watching them since birth!! I think the show on Sat. nights was called Creature Feature or Chiller Theater with a guy dressed like Dracula and his assistant was Terminal Stare (she never blinked, kinda creepy). I can’t stand Edward my favorite Vampire is Jean-Claude in the Anita Blake series. I have to admit though I’m more a were lover. I would love to be a werewolf!!

Christine I would love to get you to sign my book, I checked yur site and I might have missed it but are you going to be at the TX Ren festival??

    Hi Christine:)
Read you books & LOVE them.
A question, Harry Potter or Cullen, who could defeat an evil vampire?

I love several vampires Nick Knight, Lucien LaCoix and Frank Langella as Dracula in particular.
I like the tragic but heroic qualities, but a bit of bite is absolutly necessary.

My love of vampires began with Frank Langella’s tragic/romantic Dracula in the 19’s and paranormal even before that.

It depends on how well groomed he is, musty, grave smelling, jagged nails YUCK! but a smooth dresser, manicured nails, good hygene & pocket for for a bag or two of blood is definitly worth a second look ;)

Hi Rachel! Hi Christine! I have to say, in answer to Christine’s question, that my favorite vampire is the Count St. Germain in Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s series. He’s intelligent, ancient, and appears to women in their dreams. The books are set in many different locales and time periods, and it’s always clear who the real monsters are, and they are never St. Germain.

Harry Potter could probably defeat an evil vampire. Cullen is just a kid trying to survive in a normal school. He would probably lunch without Rowan’s help.

    [Reply]

  93. Comment by Christine Rose — October 15, 2009 @ 3:10 pm

Mina: I agree with Ethan. Definitely Harry Potter. He’s a wizard in his own right. Cullen does have some inherent magic power inside him, but he’s not really in touch with it yet. Perhaps by the end of the series ;-)

Glad to hear you enjoy our series!

Craig: They will fall out of fashion again… but they’ll never go away. After the fad is over, something like Werewolves or Zombies will be next, and it will eventually cycle back around to Vampires again. :-D

    I found this site.. yay!!!

I agree with the above commenter for the epitome of Vampire..Christopher Lee, hands down. I was loving him in those scenes even when I was 6 yrs old! (psychoanalyze that one). The blonde vampire you mention above.. mm, yes! He is beautiful, although those types often disappoint in the kissing and bedroom dept. when you do ‘get’ them in ‘real life’ (bleh, ‘real life’).

Hi Christine, Thanks for coming and sharing with us. Congrats on the new release. Questions first.. one of yours back at ya first.. What would you do if you met a vampire in the flesh? 2nd.. If you were a vampire would you be a hunter or a bag feeder?
As for your questions don’t remember the first one I read, there have been a lot in a short time span. I had 20yrs I couldn’t read books my eye sight was so bad.. Yay Lasik.. Favorites.. really liked Kisten.. J.R.Ward’s Rehvenge rates real high. I never really got into Buffy or Angel, although I thought Spike was kinda cool w/ the Billy Idol thing going on..lol
If I met one in the flesh a true vampire..top preditor.. I’d get pissed since I’d know I was getting ready to die.

    Hi Christine,

In answer to your questions….I don’t think I could pick just one. I have love anything fantastical since I was a child but vampires in particular. I love them all from the somber to the silly, freaky to the friendly. Also I love that so many writers have made them their own. Everything from the classical mythology to entirely new worlds with all their own twists and rules. As far as what I would do if I ever ran in to a real vampire face to face? Well first I hope it would be face to face and not fang to neck. I would at least like to be introduced first if I am indeed on the menu. Other than that I don’t know I guess it would depend on the situation and the vampire. I might just lose it and go all fan gurl you never know. I hope not though.

Lucille: Thanks! You’ll have to let us know what you think when you read them. Perhaps even a review on your cool site!

Shell: We’re not home yet. Not for another 2 weeks, so I’ll let you know. I’m sure it will involve a lot of lounging in my chaise longue and eating Godiva Dark Chocolate while watching TV.

Our favorite experiences were people coming up to the GGC and asking for a book. It happened in parking lots outside grocery stores and coffee shops as well as in RV parks and Rest Areas. That was cool

Our least favorite probably did have to do with the harassment by the Iowa Cops. (Only two cops, but I was freaked!)

So glad you love our books! :-D

Donna: Yes. Ia Enstera is quite amazingly talented. You can see more of her work at http://www.winkds.com

StephM: My favorite authors are Shakespeare, Vonnegut, JK Rowling, Charles de Lint, and I’ve more recently fallen for Frank Beddor and LJ Smith.

Bella F. Yep! I teach at the Round Rock HEC when in town, but lately all my classes are Distance Learning online (since I’m on tour).

Lisa: There are five planned books in the Rowan Series. The next one, Fire of the Fey, will be released in 2010. We’re pushing for May, but it won’t be later than October.

Oh Tarter Sauce. Angel or Spike. I loved both and for very different reasons. They both loved Buffy and in turn she loved them both for very different reasons. Watching Buffy was the start of my fascination and love of vampires. At age six When we had our School’s MLK day and we told out families what we wanted to be it was the first thing I said was I wanted to be a vampire. Coming face to face with a real Vamp I’d Ask them to bite me and make it one big Suckfest.

Christine, What is one of the main reasons for your love of Vampires besides the darkside of them?

Plus it established the beginning of the exploration of the four basic elements + spirit, which is what the five novels are following. Earth (Rowan of the Wood), Water (Witch on the Water), Fire (Fire of the Fey), Air, and Spirit.

I only got into the paranormal this last year, but can’t get enough of it.

    Welcome to BBB.

So I got a question and I’m sorry if it’s already been asked but, what do you and your husband do when you have a difference of opinion while writing your stories?

And I agree… I like Spike waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy better than Edward.

    [Reply]

  160. Comment by Christine Rose — October 17, 2009 @ 6:35 am

Rachel! YEAH! That was magically fast!
Ia Enstera did the cover art for both Rowan and Witch.
    http://www.winkds.com

Kristen: I was first interested in the paranormal in High School. I was a good little Catholic girl then, so I was ashamed of my interest. I always wanted to check out the books on the Occult, but I thought it was some kind of sin to even be looking. Thankfully, I got over all that.

Lyda: Since the Rowan storyline and major characters were of my creation, any disagreements defer to me. I have the final edit between the two of us; however, Ethan is much more well-read than I am in the fantasy genre, so it rarely comes to that. I respect his opinion and process just as he respects mine. We work quite well together.

Which vampire would be for me, hmmm Angel with all the angst and no sex becasue he becomes bad or Spike with all the violence and wild sex. Edward becasue he is cold and hard in all the wrong and right places, but he could kill me and I wouldn’t like that. You know what, I would go for George Hamiltons Dracula, much more fun, or maybe Frank Langella (sp)I saw him on broadway, it was so good and the movie wasn’t to shabby either. As for meeting one, well I think I would have to carry a Mr. Pointy with me at all times or I would be staying in a lot at night. That would mean no life for me. Wait, then I would be like a vampire. LOL
My question: Why do you think Vampires are so sexy and loveable? Why not shapeshifters or witches? Hot blooded not cold blooded or actually someone with blood.

Jo Anne : Oh shapeshifters and witches are sexy, too! I guess like anything, sexy is sexy, human, vampire, demon, shapeshifter, witch — whatever!

So, for example, Spike is a sexy vampire, but there were many, many, many vampires on the Buffy/Angel series that were far from sexy. Nosferatu isn’t sexy… but take a sexy man/woman and make them a vampire, then it’s doubly sexy. :-D

    Koren: I eat a lot of chocolate :-D That’s always a treat.
I’ve been considering doing a “Single Ladies” video as a vampire :-D … but I’m not sure yet, as my back still hurts from the last time I attempted it!

I just might! Your video got the most views of ALL my videos EVER! … I think more than them all put together!

Next for our writing career is to finish the Rowan series. We’ve got 3 more books to go! I’m also considering a side project in Steampunk Paranormal Romance… perhaps under a pen name. :-D

Some of my favorite places in the country are the redwood forest (no surprise there), the Black Hills of SD, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, especially in the Autumn.

I’m 100% with you on Spike, for all the same reasons. I’m a total sucker for crazed prophet characters, and I love his arc throughout the show. More than anyone else in the show, he really brings out the question of what makes a person a person: the soul, their nature, and whether lacking one or the other they can still make choices. Every expression of vampire morality in the one character = awesome.

At what point did you realize you were different from the other kids in regards to your obsession with vampires and the paranormal?

For me, I always knew that I was a bit different, but it didn’t really hit me until yesterday - that was when it occurred to me that my most favorite stories, characters, etc were in some way paranormal. Futuristic, sci/fi, demons, vampires, weres, whatever. I love it all. It’s actually kind of cool being the weird kid. :)

I posted info on this contest at my blog: elisajankowski.blogspot.com (this also autofeeds into a note on my facebook page (see below)

Ooops! I guess the contest is already closed! Shows you what I know! :-D
Because of my faux pas, I’ll just tell you!

#156 is Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, only Giles shook a magic gourd. It was Jonathan who had the magic bone.

#132 is an old Monty Python sketch. Quite funny.

Can’t wait to see who won!
