Annabelle Hawthorne Morton has been half blind for the last two years. As a human, she is not to play with spells and when she did, it blew up in her face. She can only see blurred images and colors. Since her mother passed a few years before, she is the only to watch out for her father. Delbert likes to find trouble and Annabelle the loving daughter that she is, always comes to his rescue.

Lord Malachi Hawthorne, Earl of Markham is hiding in his castle. A woman and a wizard cursed him with deformities and he no longer wants to be around people. A woman cursed him and only a woman can free him. Instead of looking for that one person that will set him free he hides himself and hardens his heart towards everyone.

Annabelle’s father has found trouble once again and it is up to her to save him. He was caught trespassing on the Earls land. He had been looking for treasure to pawn for money but instead found out what the inside of a dungeon looks like. The Earl gives her the choice; she can either walk away or stay in her father’s place.

This was such a wonderful story. I loved it so much that I had to feed my family cereal for dinner so I could finish reading it. Annabelle was a fragile woman in the beginning until she learned that she more inside of her than she thought. Malachi was a battered hero that you wanted to care for and make better. I enjoyed them together in this book so much. The extra characters were hysterical at times and made a great addition to the story. I have always loved Beauty and the Beast but Marly Mathews made it even better.
