My favorite recipe, for fall, if not for Halloween, is caramel apples. Here’s a link to a recipe:
    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Caramel-Apples/Detail.aspx

We also used to make apples into witches, using construction paper and maybe toothpicks? And we made Tootsie Pop ghosts!

    2. I did it!

    3. I did that, too!

I have 3 recipes that I always use for this season…..

the easiest is Witches Brew (non alcoholic or doctor as you please)
equal parts grape juice(the purple stuff no white/green) and orange juice
mix together in a cauldron(bowl) and add dry ice
it will be a really funky grey color and smoke but it tastes good

then there is Pan de Muerto for Dia de los Muertos here is a link to one of many recipes….I really think that every family has their own variation on ingredients and form. http://www.azcentral.com/ent/dead/articles/dead-food_bread.html

and we also make Sugar Skulls

I have my grandmothers pumpkin roll recipe. Although, it has become a Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas thing. Between now and December 25, my mom and I will end up making bunches of them for different occasions. They are SUPER time consuming to make, but it is soooo worth it! And then after Christmas, the recipe gets put up again until next fall.

It was sooooooo good. I haven’t had it in what feels like forever. My babysitter I had as a kid made it every fall and it was delicious. Sorry that I don’t lnow the recipe.

Whilst looking for things to do with my children last Samhain i discovered this recipe for some reason my son loves it - i cant think why?!?!?!

Troll Snot, Bug & Mud Pie

    1 Packet Lime Jelly
    2 Packets Rowntrees Bursting Bugs
    2 Packets Chocolate ‘Angel Delight’
    White chocolate mice for decoration.

Method : Make up the jelly as instructed and when it’s cooled but still liquid add the bugs and leave it to set. Once set make up the angel delight with milk as per packet instructions and pile on tope of the troll snot and bug mixture, top with the mice and chill until serving.

You can use any chocolate flavour desert, it doesn’t have to be angel delight!

If you can’t get Bursting Bugs then use jelly sweets that look like worms, snakes etc

    1) My two favourite Halloween/fall things are pumpkin soup (this recipe looks very similar to mine, tho I use yogurt instead of cream: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pumpkin-Soup/Detail.aspx) and ginger log.

Do you remember those chocolate wafer cookies (round and flat)? They have a recipe on bottom which is simply ‘take wafer, put whipping cream on, attach another wafer, continue until box finished then cover in whipping cream and put in fridge for a couple hours till wafers soften’. Not sure why but for a time I found it hard to find those cookies so used really thin ginger cookies instead… and was hooked! I even sprinkle a little cinnamon on top to garnish. I am now expected to bring that to all holiday gatherings. Simple, quick and so yummy!

Hm I guess it’s more of a winter drink but glögg, love it. This is the nonalcoholic version

    10 whole cloves
    7 cardamom pods, crushed
    2 cinnamon sticks
    1/2″ piece ginger root
    2 cups water
10 whole almonds, cut into halves
    1 3/4 cups raisins
    1 cup pitted prunes
    1 orange, cut into quarters
2 gallons apple juice or apple cider
    1/3 cup sugar

    Directions:
Tie cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and ginger in cheesecloth bag. Heat spice bag, water, almonds, raisins, prunes and orage to boiling in Dutch oven, crock pot or large pot. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 45 minutes. Remove spice bag, prunes and orange. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and heat until mixture begins to bubble. Ladle almond half and a few raisins in to each cup before filling with hot Glogg.

    Makes 24 half-cup servings.

Here is one of my recipes– very yummy! We are having a bonfire this year so I’ll make them for our teens and their friends:)

    Mini Popcorn Balls

    Ingredients:
    10 cups popped corn
    1 (1-lb.) bag miniature marshmallows
    1/4 cup margarine
1 cup toffee pieces or mini M&Ms
    1 cup butterscotch chips
    Orange food coloring

Place popcorn, candy and butterscotch chips in large bowl; set aside. Heat the butter in a large pan until just melted, then add the marshmallows and cook over low heat, stirring until melted and smooth. Stir in several drops of food coloring and stir. Pour over popcorn and candy, tossing to coat evenly. Cool 5 minutes. Butter hands and form into 2 or 3-inch balls. Notes: Use your imagination on the candy. Use anything that strikes your fancy!

I did two and three already, I RSVP’d, and I’m on my way to the chat!

My favorite Fall recipe would have to be Pumpkin Roll. You can find a lot of recipes for it, both online and in books. Basically it’s like flat pumpkin bread with the yummiest cream cheese spread [recipe included when you find it for pumpkin roll] on it, then you roll it up. From the side it looks kind of like a sideways cinnamon roll, and from above, like a log. You cut it into slices and enjoy! The recipe says to roll it in nuts afterward, but I like mine without nuts, so we always make 2 pumpkin rolls in our house!

Ohh, it’s this pumpkin cake that I use to make a lot couple years back. The cake part tastes like pumpkin pie, but the top is crunchy (you sprinkle white cake mix dry atop, coat it with butter and bake all at the same time. I’ll have to hunt for the recipe.)

My favorite thing is pumpkin pie with a cheesecake base. I figured it out after having pumpkin cheesecake, which was good in theory, but the recipe was bad. I bought an extra-deep pie plate and realized I needed more filling, so made some cheesecake base for the bottom. It’s a fall staple now. Yum! served with cinnamon or maple nut ice cream.

For all the vampire hunters out there, here is a great vampire repeller…

1 bulb elephant or 2 bulbs regular garlic, intact
    Olive or vegetable oil
Good quality, crusty bread, thickly sliced

To prepare the garlic, use a serrated knife to cut off one-fourth of the top of the bulb, exposing just the tops of the cloves. Place the garlic, cut side up, in the insert of the slow cooker. Pour in oil to come about one third of the way up the sides of the garlic bulb. Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 to 6 hours, or until the garlic is very soft when pierced with the point of a sharp knife. Cool the garlic bulb in the oil.

To serve, place the whole bulb in the center of a rimmed plate. Pour some of the garlic oil around it. Pass the bread. Squeeze the softened cloves of garlic onto the bread.

    Note:
The fragrant garlic oil can be stored in the refrigerator in a tightly covered container for 1 month. For repelling vamps, use a dab on all major arteries.

    2-5 done.

    Every year in October for two weeks we have the Jackson State Fair in Mississippi. The three most wonderful foods I always look forward to are;
Roasted corn, Funnel cakes, and Saltwater taffy. Each one of those are sinfully delightful.

My favorite fall food, chili for sure. Made the basic way with chili beans,
black beans, chili powder and hamburger. I do have secret ingredients that I add, taco powder & taco sauce. If my husband knew I put them in it, he wouldn’t eat it. But if I don’t put it in he won’t eat it. He’s such a picky eater.

My favorite fall recipe is my pumpkin pie..it’s Julia Childs Aunt Helens Fluffy Pumpkin Pie recipe that I clipped out of the Sunday Parade magazine many years ago (1982). It’s so good..and I found a link for it too…which is great so now I can add it to my digital recipe file without having to type it out :)

I always love to save the pumpkin seeds after carving jack-o-lanterns and roast them. Growing up we always used cinnamon and sugar, but now I have found a few other recipes that are very good. Here are several others.

My favorite fall food has to be all the apple dishes, from apple pies to apple cakes. My family would disown me if i revealed my grandmother’s apple pie recipe, but this recipe for apple cake comes from my own collection of recipes, so feel free to use it as you will :)

    Spiced Apple Cake

    2 cups white sugar
    2 cups all purpose flour
    4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoon baking soda
    2 eggs
    1 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
4 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and finely chopped (about 4 to 6 apples)
    1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Butter and flour a 10-inch cake pan. Combine dry ingredients and set aside. Whip eggs until frothy, about 3 to 4 minutes then add oil and orange juice and mix thoroughly. Add dry ingredients and beat with whip at low speed until thoroughly combined.
Fold in apples and walnuts and pour into prepared cake pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour or until firm on top. Cover with aluminum foil if top gets too brown. Cool on rack 5 minutes, then invert onto rack and cool completely
