For Anita Blake; necromancer, licensed vampire executioner and paranormal consultant to the local police; life is never dull. The Laughing Corpse is the second installment in the Anita Blake series an takes place roughly one month after Guilty Pleasures.

As usual Anita is up to her neck in vampires and zombies, and refusing to perform a human sacrifice to raise a 300 year old corpse is just the beginning. Her mentor in the zombie raising game, Manny, introduces her to his ex-lover, and voodoo priestess, Salvador who wants Anita to become her partner.

Then there is Jean Claude. He is still trying to convince Anita to become his human servant but things get bad when there is a rash of zombie related murders in the metro area. Then to add to the challenges one of her former colleges rises as a flesh eating zombie that only Anita can stop. Of course there are lots more adventures as well but you just have to pick it up to find out what they are.

The Laughing Corpse is well written, fast paced and run to read. Prepare to sit up through the night because you will not want to put it down until you are finished. Once again, Hamilton has done a great job of pulling her readers into Anita’s world.
