Power of Love by Barbara Elsborg
Poppy is haunted by her own guilt. She blames herself for the death of a fellow police officer. Tragically, he was also the man that she loves. She envisions him everywhere, casting more guilt with each moment. The fact that she is alive and he is not is ruining her life. The daily torture of her fellow officers is pure torture, not to mention a ghost of her unforgiving boyfriend.
Joe was Poppy’s boyfriend. He was killed in the line of duty. He blames Poppy for the foiled undercover operation and his death.
Barbara Elsborg’s Power of Love is a wonderful paranormal romantic read. The strength of the novel demonstrates just how powerful an emotion love can be for one person. The author is able to show both points of view that occur as a result of a realistic tragic event. The emotions of Poppy and Joe can really pull at your heart strings. The novel reels the reader in deeper with each chapter. We have all had that “one” person that touches our soul; we would hold onto that love indefinitely. Sometimes the fear of letting go gets in our way, even if it is all we have left. An emotionally enticing storyline with an unexpected ending.

This does sound like a great read, and I think it will be successful because the power and strength of love is a shared human experience–one of the few emotions that people everywhere can relate to; so many people can’t get enough of a good love story. The fact that there’s tragedy in this one only adds to the effect because people also love sad things for some reason. It’s appealing, like being unable to look away from a car wreck. Love and tragedy are time-tested best-selling elements for a book.

Thanks very much for the review and the comment. This story is one of my favourites. Although the premise is a sad one, I hope the humour lifts it to an enjoyable and fun read. One of the parts I most liked writing was when Joe woke to find that little ’surprise’ and how he dealt with it!
I wanted to call the book - Letting Go - that title fits so well. Poppy letting go of Joe and Joe letting go of Poppy - both literally and figuratively but that title had already been snapped up. Still - the power of love is the essence of the tale and the essence of our lives.
Thanks again for reading and reviewing. This is the first comment on the story I’ve seen!

I had the honor of seeing this story morph from the beginning, being one of Barbara’s critique partners. It’s the kind of story that you keep a bar of chocolate and the Kleenex handy for. You’ll cry, laugh and in the end–smile. There’s “Chick Flicks” and then there’s “Chick Books” and this one is definately one for the girls. The hero’s hot, the heroine, endearing and the tale will stick with you and take you on an emotional ride you’d be hard-pressed to forget. If you haven’t gotten a copy, go out and get it. You won’t forget it.
