Rhiannon’s Pride by Frances Stockton
Rhiannon has just realized that her guardian is her jailer. She is determined to find the truth of her past, but can she trust the feelings that the artist Dante brings out in her? Can he teach her what it means to be Abcynian?
Dante is an elder, marking him 200 years old. He has wondered if he would ever find his mate, if he would ever be willing to give up his wild ways with women, to have a settled life with just one woman…his mate.
Enemies from birth, the Abcynians have warred with Saturians for centuries. But when a Saturian finds an injured young female Abcynian, he knows he may have found the answer to finally ending the war and the lives of the Abcynian people…if only he can keep control of her.
I have read one other Abcynian story by Frances Stockton, and I enjoyed it. The subplots within these tales make me enjoy it even more. The constant struggle between the Abcynian and Saturian makes for an interesting read and a tale that drags one into a world of racism, hatred, fear, and the possibility of a lifetime of love. What would you be willing to do to learn of your past,of a past that has been hidden, stolen from you? What would you do for the perfect mate? Set in a time when women are chattel and their worth is measured by the amount of male children they can produce, this is one book that can pull on your heart strings.
