There are werewolves, valkyrie, amnesiac brides, mistresses, and not one damn sex scene. This book has been stuck at Chapter Three for way too long, and the characters are getting sick of it. Any time an intimate scene presents itself, the file is saved and a new Chapter Three is waiting to be written. Jean, the hero in each of these failed attempts, and Danny, a plot-devise who doesn’t think he can fulfill his original purpose, decide to take matters into their own hands.

Mutiny in Chapter Three by Shelby Morgen is one of the most ingenious stories I’ve ever read, and I can tell that an immeasurable amount of talent went into it. The characters self-edit, change names (was it Jean and Danny or James and Dean?), there’s an angry valkyrie who hates dialogue tags and mid-coitus debates on chapter breaks. More than that, the dysfunction works. Sorting through what was real and what wasn’t was a smooth chaos that was witty and exiting and erotic to a drop-you-to-your-knees degree.

There wasn’t so much as internal debate on this one—Mutiny deserves 5 tombstones hands down. I’ll be looking for more from this wonderful author!
