Stone and Fire by Cindy Spencer Pape

****½

Dana Logan, antiques dealer, witch and half-dragon, is at her best friend’s wedding, congratulating herself on her “still single” status. Recently, she’s been surrounded by weddings, engagements and expectant mothers and is no hurry to join the ranks of any of those. Her plans are shaken, however, after dancing with Baudoin Dumont (Beau), a stunningly handsome gargoyle. Dancing at the wedding led to dancing in the bedroom, and she suspects that those love bites they gave each other were really part of the dragon mating ritual!

Beau is no more anxious for love than Dana because of a past tragedy. As a protector of his people, his commitment is to his clan. Recently, his efforts have been bent on finding Gargoyle magical artifacts that have been missing for centuries. The artifacts may mean the difference between life or death for his people and his niece, who will soon be facing her transition. Since the artifacts have been missing, the gargoyle birth rate has dropped dramatically and many adolescents are not surviving their transition to gargoyle. Beau has no time or taste for romance and love, as he keeps telling himself.

After an absence of months, Dana and Beau join forces in London to track down stolen antiques and the missing gargoyle magical ring and crown. Fate and love conquer fear and misgivings as they are forced to fight for each other.

Stone and Fire is a delightful and engaging tale! The characters are vivid and so well-developed that it seems absolutely believable that a pixie and a gargoyle are a married couple (Dana’s brother and sister-in-law). As you can imagine, the passion between Beau (a gargoyle) and Dana (half-dragon) is hot, fierce, explicit, and earth-shaking! Although Stone and Fire isn’t shown as a series book, it is clear that there is an ongoing storyline, and what a terrific storyline it is.

    Cindy,

Thanks for the review. This book sound amazing. I have recently developed a thing for dragon stories but I must say I haven’t read one with a female dragon. You mention this is part of a series, do you think this can be read as a stand alone and still have the reader walk away feeling like you didn’t miss anything?

MarnieColette, Cindy Spencer Pape is the author. I was the reviewer of the book. I read it as a stand-alone and it was thoroughly enjoyable, but it sure did whet my interest to read the whole series. I probably would have had a more comprehensive knowledge of the amazing world they live in and a fuller relationship with some of the characters if I had read the series, but I didn’t feel as if I had ‘missed’ anything in the book by reading it as a stand-alone.
