Mala is Bonwee, a chaste group of humanoids whose very being is the essence of peace. They are so peace loving that they require a bond with another race for their own safety. What will happen if that bond is broken? Is it possible to bond with another race?

Denali is Felisian, a race mixed with feline DNA, but believes that Mala is his mate. As soon as she boards his shuttle, he is smitten. Though Mala comes from a race that looks like each other, regardless of sex, she seems to shine in his eyes. Can she truly be his mate, even though she is a different race? Can he convince her of that?

Mala is on a job for USP, but in route, they are attacked, and the shuttle crashes on an uninhabited planet. Only Mala and Denali survive. Can Mala survive the loneliness of losing her bond mate? Can Deni survive the separation from the central mind that the Felisian people share? Will they be rescued before his heat comes about, or will help come too late?

“Mating Urge” is a joy to read. Although I felt initially that I was coming in late to the story, I was very quickly drawn in. The emotions of Deni and Mala, as well as the horrible situations that they find themselves in, are intense. The eroticism shown throughout the story compels you to keep turning the pages. One would think that a virgin with an experienced lover has been overdone, but Shay Lacy has shown that that just isn’t so. I enjoyed the full experience that Ms. Lacy offers the reader of a couple learning to trust one another and work together towards a future together. I will definitely have to be on the outlook for more written by Ms. Lacy.
