Iron Horse Rider by Adelle Laudan
Shane is riding home with his wife on her own motorcycle when she is killed by truck driver who swerves into their lane. While holding her shattered body he sees a stranger tie a small bell to the his bike’s swing arm then disappear. As soon as his wife is buried Shane takes off on the open road. The open road and wind on your face is the healing balm for Shane, a healing he desperately needs.
Tia a member of the Micmac Indian tribe and daughter of the tribe’s chief has lost her husband within the past year though her pain is still fresh in her heart.
During his days on the road Shane comes to stay with the Micmac Indian tribe and learns a few things about himself and the stranger from the night of the accident. Along the way Shane helps Tia with a problem of her own.
Adelle Laudan is an artist painting the picture of joy, heartbreak, and the tender process of healing. Shane’s pain becomes your own and leaves you wanting to help him in any way you can. This novella is beautifully worked and is one I would recommend to a teen reader as well as the more mature reader.
