Beliana, a guardian angel, and Malarak, a demon whose task is to sneak pornographic material into the local convent, have a strange sort of friendship. Beliana is convinced that Malarak can be brought to the Light if he just quit scheming. Malarak is convinced that his latest plot can prove his inner goodness. Both want to make the life of Mary, a woman who got pregnant as a teenager and was forced into an unhappy marriage, and her child better. In doing so, they experience feelings you wouldn’t expect between an angel and demon.

“Demon’s Redemption” by Anastasia Rabiyah and Sandy Samson is an original, heartfelt journey into the minds of former teenage lovers and a demon enamored with an angel. The concept of guardian angels and tempting demons flitting from the body of one creature to the next is ingenious, allowing the reader to see the world from various perspectives while adding an extra dose of humor. How would you feel in the body of a crow after it had done what birds notoriously do? It’s not something I’d considered until now.

For a novella, this story touched me deeply. The dual love story ability to capture me in fewer than forty pages earns “Demon’s Redemption” 4.5 tombstones. I’ll definitely be looking for more from these authors!
