Tayla Mancuso is a Guardian and demon slayer. She has an extreme hatred towards demons, and has trouble accepting that she desires one, even one as good looking as Eidolon. She met him when he saved her life. However, she must put her personal desires aside in order to do her job and prove her loyalty to the Aegis. Eidolon has built the hospital of his dreams. His job as cheif of staff is to provide treatment to almost everyone, with few exceptions.
When a slayer is brought into his emergency room, his oath forces him to treat her, despite the wishes of his brothers and fellow staff. He does not anticipate being attracted to her, and writes it off to the changes that his body is undergoing. He discovers that Tayla has a little secret of her own that she is unaware of and he must decide how best to break it to her. But, he loses time as they discover that someone is harvesting demon organs and the signs all point to the Aegis. Tayla and Eidolon must work together to get to the bottom of the mystery. Can she overcome her hatred of demons enough to help them, even though it requires her turning her back on all that she has grown up believing?
I give this book 4 1/2 tombstones. While the book contains the scary demons that everyone thinks of at the mention of demons, I really like the idea of humanoid looking demons who are not evil all the time. Eidolon is a complex character on so many levels. His restraint in his emotions, His resistance to his body’s changes, and his relationships with his brothers and other people. Ms. Ione allows for some humor within the book as well. The reference to Tayla as “Buffy” had me laughing. Tayla was a fascinating character as well. She was strong when it came to her hatred and her loyalty to her fellow guardians, but she had a soft, vulnerable side as well. The chemistry between Eidolon and Tayla was riveting as well. The sex scenes were passionate and exciting as well. I really loved this book. I think Ms. Ione came up with a winner in her plot line this plot line that starts out in a demon hospital. I look forward to reading the next installment in the series which will revolve around one of Eidolon’s brothers. If you like books about demons, then pick this one up today. You will love it!
