Renee Martin, an antique dealer from Louisiana, felt strangely at home the minute she arrived in Venice. Though she told herself she was only there to purchase interesting items for her shop, she knew, deep in her heart, that her recurring dreams of an earlier time was what truly drew her to Italy. She glanced around in the first shop, saw nothing of interest, and was preparing to leave when the clerk’s voice stopped her, offering to show her their collection of antique jewelry. (more…)

The second book of The Tusteyan Annals continues where its predecessor left off, resuming the tale of Tusteyan native Rebeka and her husband, Philip, the son of the Tusteyans’ human conqueror. Rebeka’s family still expects her to slay her new husband in retribution for the harsh treatment of the Tusteyans in the past and their continued oppression. However, Rebeka’s husband has something up his sleeve: a plan to return Tusteya to her people and a dose of charisma large enough to win the hearts of Rebeka’s family. But even if the Terrans on Tusteya and their native counterparts can find peace, none would be able to predict what would happen when the Federation vessel Condor returned to see to the planet she colonized years ago. Rebeka is an assassin cloaked as a peace-offering from the Tusteyan people to their would-be conquerors, the humans. The only daughter of warrior caste’s leaders, she is planted in the palace of the “Earthman” governor as his bride, but the marriage is hardly intended to last: Rebeka is to kill him as soon as possible.

The governor, however, is a far cry from the evil overlord he is believed to be. A young man thrust into the role of leadership and tyranny at an even younger age, Philip is no villain, and Rebeka begins to have feelings for him. But little does she know that a complication might arise from one of her dearest friends, taking the story down a heartbreaking path. (more…)

Janette’s Tale is written in a rather barebones fashion yet it has an appealing narrative. Seemingly an origin story, it details young Janette’s evolution from being a simple lass of the forest, a huntress very skilled with bow and arrow, to become a powerful instrument of the Goddess.

I wasn’t exactly sure if this story was set in the real world or a made up world. A historical tale set in Medieval times, it strongly brought to mind Robin Hood, although the story is quite different. (more…)

In 1825, the Rose Hill Plantation was the horror of Jamaica. Annie, the White Witch, had been orphaned as a child and raised in the blackest form of voodoo. As an evil voodoo priestess, she killed her slaves for the smallest slight and the rest lived in terror. She used male slaves as her lovers, and none lived for long. She made a terrible mistake, though, when she called Talon to her bed. Talon had been a white voodoo priest in Africa before being captured and sold into slavery. (more…)
