BBB: Can you please share with us how old you were when you wrote your first story?

JS: I’m not sure how old I was when I wrote my first story. My mom passed away a few years ago and my sis and I were going through her stuff and found a page of story I’d written on yellow foolscap tucked into an old address book—from elementary school. So it’s safe to say, I’ve been at it awhile!

BBB: Can you please share with us how old you were when you wrote your first story?

JC: Unlike a lot of writers, I didn’t start out at the tender age of five. Yeah, sure, I scribbled a few little stories when I was a kid but, frankly, I never considered that real writing. What I do remember doing daily most of my entire life is telling stories in my head. I didn’t try to set them down on paper until I was in my mid-twenties and I only did it then because it was a way to get the stories out of my head. For all the good it did me. The problem is that as soon as one story is down on paper, another one starts taking shape in my head.

BBB: Can you please share with us how old you were when you wrote your first story?

DNW: The first story that I remember was titled “The Thing at the Top of the Stairs,” a very Edgar Allen Poe inspired thing. I was in my senior year of high school, so, 17. That story stuck with me so well, and so long, that I rewrote it from memory years later to be included in 365 Scary Stories – a book you can still pick up at Barnes & Noble. I have seven stories in it.

BBB: Can you please share with us how old you were when you wrote your first story?

KP: Um I made stuff up all the time when I was a kid. I was famous for it. I didn’t start writing it down until I was about eighteen, when I wrote awful heartfelt poetry and novels where I tried to be Jane Austen. It wasn’t until I moved to the USA 12 years ago with my husband and family and didn’t have a work visa that I actually had time to sit down and write my first full book.

BBB: Can you please share with us how old you were when you wrote your first story?

DC: I know that I always was scribbling stories. The first one I remember writing was when I was a teenager. I was crazy for THE LORD OF THE RINGS, but it annoyed me that the romance between Aragon and Arwen was in the appendix. I rewrote TLOTR as a fantasy romance novel. It’s probably good that a lot of it was just composed in my head and never written down - and that whatever was written down is long done - but it’s a story that I still think would be fun to write.
