Social elite zombies, lawyer vampires, wood nymph talk show hosts, prepubescent pigtailed reapers and various other bizarre characters come together in another very unique and at times (OK, most of the time) riotous mystery adventure…oh, and did I forget to mention a whole stable of Yeti strippers? Be prepared for off the wall humor that leaves no taboo subject alone (more…)

It is my understanding that Crimson is the last of Jordan Summer’s Dead World series. This knowledge made me wait until the last minute to read this book; I didn’t want this story to end! Red was such an original take on the werewolf mythos that I instantly became a fan. The character of Gina “Red” Santiago was tough, driven, and melted only in the hands of Morgan Hunter, sheriff of the small town of Nuria. (more…)

Gina “Red” Santiago left her life in the IPTT, or International Police Tactical Team, to give Nuria and its sheriff, Morgan Hunter, a chance. Too bad they’re not showing her the same courtesy.

Gina Santiago, nicknamed Red because of the amount of blood spilled when she’s around, is a member of the International Police Tactical Team, a team created to protect the various republics that exist in the former United States. It is the only entity that has rights in each republic to investigate murder–which is almost obsolete–or to take care of outsiders, the people who refuse to commit themselves to a specific republic.

Sophie Merlo is one of the best journalists in Pittsburgh since she is able to use a rare telepathic gift of persuasion to convince humans to tell her things they otherwise never would. But Sophie meets her match when she is assigned to investigate the murders of several young women, all bearing the same, mysterious tattoo. Rather than a human cause, she finds herself in the middle of an exclusive vampire club.

Instead of just gathering the facts, however, Sophie also manages to get involved in the scoop itself, trying to corroborate the stories of two powerful vampires in the city, both of which seem likely suspects for the slayings. However, only one of them really is responsible, and both of them want to take Sophie’s blood. (more…)
