Soul Avenged (Sons of Wrath, #1) by Keri Lake Soul Avenged is the first book in the Sons of Wrath series. I’d have to say this was probably one of the most enjoyable stories I’ve written so far (although book two, currently in edits, is proving to be some pretty tough competition). It actually started out as somewhat of a distraction—just a few ideas I’d jotted down here and there—until it eventually snowballed into this entire world, teeming with a variety of supes.

I’ve always wanted to write something based in Detroit, where I grew up on the outskirts, and this seemed like the perfect place to set my dark and gritty tale, as I have a more intimate connection with the city. Readers will be immediately thrown into the action, a war zone, between lycans, Alexi soldiers and the seven brothers of the demon prince, Wrath. And it’s in the thick of all this chaos that the most unlikely love story will unfold.

Here is a bit more about the book:

“Passion is blind in vengeance and love …
Ayden’s suburban home was invaded by a pack of Lycans.
The brutal attack is the only memory she carries of her former life.
Now, one motive burns in her soul:

KILL THEM ALL.

The Sons of Wrath—a brood of vengeance-dealing warrior demons—band with Ayden to hunt
the Lycans on Detroit’s most deadly feeding grounds.

Unfortunately, the newly bitten Lycan has something she wants—clues that may finally lay her
past to rest. To reach them, she must be willing to submit to the sensual pleasures awakened by
his touch.

Kane Walker should’ve been her easiest kill.

Time is running out.

In seven days, Kane will become what Ayden despises most. She can halt his transformation
but the antidote requires the ultimate sacrifice. As the beast takes hold, Kane becomes more of a
threat.

Ayden must choose between her lust for revenge, or surrender to her enemy and discover a
horrible truth.”

I’m really excited to be on Bitten by Books and look forward to chatting with you!

Author Bio:

“Keri Lake is a married mother of two living in Michigan. She writes paranormal romance, urban
fantasy and loves a good, tragic love story. Though novels tend to be her focus, she also writes
short stories and flash fiction whenever distraction manages to suck her in to the Land of Shiny
Things.

When she isn’t toiling away on plots and protagonists, she enjoys reading, music and travel. If
she could create mystical powers for herself, she’d have the ability to flash to anywhere in the
world. And if she could flash to anywhere in the world at this very moment, she’d be staring at
the ocean from her Adirondack chair on the shores of North Carolina.”

  2. Thanks for the event. Not only did I remember to RSVP – I remembered to show up!

Best of luck with your novels,
    Shannon

  3. Tammy V says:

Love the cover. It reminds me of Underworld, which I love. I really enjoy reading series that are paranormal. What makes this one different from other books out there? Do you have a stand out scene?

    Oh and I RSVP’d too ;)

    • Keri Lake says:

Probably the most significant thing that makes Soul Avenged different from your typical pararomance is that it’s pretty dark and violent. The lycans in this novel are not the cuddly sort of werewolves–much more dangerous. I’d say the stand out scene to me is the cave scene. Haha! ;) Thanks for stopping by Tammy!

  4. Michelle Bledsoe says:

    Hi Keri.
I am looking forward to reading Soul Avenged. How many books are you hoping to write in this series?

    • Keri Lake says:

I have a book planned for each brother in the series so far (there are 7 sons of Wrath). I’ve also plotted a couple of novellas in between. :) So lots more coming your way!

  5. ~Angela says:

    I am a big Fan!!!

Can you tell us what you have in store for SoW?

    • Keri Lake says:

Haha! Future books will focus on each of the brothers. I can’t give away too much but book two is Logan’s and somehow *whistles* not sure why, this one turned out darker than Soul Avenged. ;) Thanks Angela!

  6. amccalli says:

Thank you having this event! This books sounds really interesting and fun!! :)

  7. K. L. Schwengel says:

    Hi Keri,

Didn’t see the notice for this till this morning so RSVP’d after the deadline. Duh. Thought I’d jump in on my lunch break anyhow and say “hi”. *waves* Hope the launch and tour are going great.

Those of you stopping in who haven’t read SOUL AVENGED yet, it’s an excellent read, just make sure you don’t have anything important to do once you start. ;)

    ~Kathi

  8. Robert L. Stubbs Jr. says:

    Hello Keri.

Did you do a lot of research to set your current series in Detroit or is it more based off your memories?

    • Keri Lake says:

I was born in Detroit and grew up on the outskirts up until I left for college so a lot of it was based on my memories and personal experiences. I currently live in Michigan so I’m not far from the city if I need to go check something out ;) My sister and her fiancee are photographers and have done some urban exploration in some of the most shattered landmarks. In fact, the background cover for the book is a staircase in the abandoned Packard Plant, taken by my sister’s fiancee.

    • Keri Lake says:

Great question by the way! Thanks for stopping by!

  9. Dovile P. says:

Have you ever written fan fiction? For what fandom?

  10. Dovile P. says:

What was your favorite childhood book?

  11. Trix says:

Is there a genre you’d like to try working in that you haven’t yet?

    • Keri Lake says:

Well, paranormal romance and urban fantasy are my favorites. I’ve had a couple of ideas come to mind for a regular, contemporary romance, but I’d have to get the darkness out of my system first. Think I’d be too tempted to throw in something twisted. Haha! I’d actually love to try horror sometime.

    • Keri Lake says:

      Thanks for stopping by Trix!

  12. Julie Cole says:

What prompted you to write paranormal stories and about Lycans?

    I RSVP’d

    • Keri Lake says:

I’d actually fleshed out the female protagonist for Soul Avenged first. And considering she turned out to be kind of a badass, I needed a supe that would challenge her – up her adrenaline a bit. When I think of today’s werewolves, don’t get me wrong, they’re sexy, but not the most intimidating beasts. Alcide? *fans self* is hot but he just wouldn’t make a good antagonist for Ayden. I wanted something more along the lines of The Howling. There’s actually a reason I chose the term ‘lycan’ that’s revealed toward the end of the story ;)

  13. Josette Schaber says:

Was there a moment or event that made you start writing this story? What inspired the premise?

    • Keri Lake says:

I’d actually wanted to write a strong, badass female lead for a while, but it wasn’t until one afternoon, on a long car ride to my nephew’s basketball game, that I decided to ‘jot down a few notes’. Those few notes snowballed into this monster manuscript 6 weeks later! I’ve also wanted to write something set in Detroit. It all sort of came together at once :) Thanks for stopping by Josette!

  14. cody says:

When you started writing the story, you said it was ideas here and there, but did you know at that point you would have a little romance too? I have this idea but I keep thinking if I don’t throw some romance in there, it won’t be a complete story…sad thing is, I don’t know how to romance. LOL I was just curious if it just kind of evolved for you or if it’s something you have to work to get it going.

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Cody! Great question :) I love writing romance, so I definitely knew that I was going to weave some steam in there somewhere and I personally love HEA. The demon brothers have a sort of sex appeal that makes it irresistible. My approach though has always been to get it all on paper and let the story take me where it’s going to take me. Not everything I’ve written is romance. I’ve always been big on characters and letting their stories unfold as they were meant to. However, if you’re feeling its just not complete without the romance, and you’re not sure how to do romance, the best way to learn in my experience is reading. :) I try to read whenever I can squeeze it in. Your characters and their stories will add a unique and fresh twist. Thanks for stopping in!

  15. susan stielow says:

I absolutely love the cover. Who was the cover artist you used? And who’s your favorite character in the book?

    • Keri Lake says:

Thank you Susan! My cover artist is Mel from Mahdesigns. She did a wonderful job of capturing the dark look I was going for!

I actually like Ayden as some of me kind of bleeds into her character. But I must admit, both Gavin and Kane were fun to write as well :)

  16. Rhianna says:

    Rhianna W. (United States)

Oh my goodness it’s been forever since I’ve been over here! :) Thanks for the email invite Keri.

I’m really curious about how you name your characters Keri… do you just pick at random or do you look for ones with a certain meaning or origin that fits the genre?

    • Keri Lake says:

It’s actually a combination of both! I have to flesh out their personalities before I can pick a name. Then its a matter of finding a name that fits. I’ve actually always liked the name Ayden. And because it’s not a common name for a female, I liked it even more. In the book, some of the brothers have changed their real names to keep with the times (stay below the human radar). So Gavin is actually Gavius. Ferno is short for his nickname, Inferno, because this brother’s brand of pain is hellfire. It just depends on the character :) Thanks for stopping by Rhianna!

  17. Tiffany says:

so excited to hear you have book for planned for each broher!

  18. Tiffany says:

Oops, forgot to ask. When you write, is it free flow or do you have all the stories kinda already planned/outlined in your head?

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Tiffany! You know, I have tried TRIED to do an outline, because in my mind, this is what writers do–they plan out each scene until it’s practically written. But I see these characters, their actions and dialogue, as if a movie is playing in my head when I write them. For me, an outline never works because it boxes me into this ‘plan’ and I just don’t do well with plans. Haha So I definitely write on the fly. It allows me to change up the scene if I need to without worrying about how it will affect everything that follows.

  19. Maria S says:

Your books sounds great! What book you are most looking forward to reading in 2013?

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Maria! I want to read MacRieve by Kresley Cole. Also, though they’re not pararomance (and not upcoming new releases), I’d like to finally read Colleen Hoover’s Slammed novels.

  20. rachael constant says:

    thanks for the fab comp!

    who are your favourite authors?

    xxx

  21. What was your biggest inspiration for this book?

    • Keri Lake says:

It’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly what inspired it. I think it was a combination of things over time–the desire to write a tough female, to set the story in Detroit, to explore these demon brothers that kept popping in and out of my head. I had this weird mishmash going on – I love Robert DeNiro and those mafia style movies. I love angel and demon stories. When I was a teenager, I watched the movie, The Crow, and in addition to being excited that it was set in Detroit, I fell in love with the dark story and vengeance. So it all sort of came together at once for me when I finally sat down to write it.

  22. How much of yourself, emotion, characteristics etc, are embedded into the characters in the book?

  23. Keri Lake says:

It’s hard not to bleed a little bit into the characters. I’ve been called feisty at times, much like Ayden ;)

  24. Viki S. says:

Do you figure any of your personality into your characters? I agree that this cover reminds me of UNDERWORLD. Thank you so much.

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Viki! Not intentionally. It just sort of happens that a bit of my personality typically ends up in the characters. I can definitely be a smartass at times, like Kane. And I’m pretty sure I’ve been called a pistol before. haha

  25. Samantha Newbury says:

I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait to see what you bring out next. Oh, and will the second book still be Ayden and Kane’s POV or will it be one of the brothers? :)

  26. Minna P says:

    Who are your favorite writers?

  27. Josie Hink says:

Do you listen to music while you write or have a playlist for your book

    • Keri Lake says:

Hey Josie! Yes I absolutely must have music when I write! I actually have my playlist for Soul Avenged posted on one of the tour stops.

I cannot have music when I edit though. For that, I usually listen to music beforehand to get in the zone but once I get going, I must have quiet.

  28. Laura D says:

This books sounds great, just what I enjoy reading. I am adding it to my TBR list. The cover is also nice! What is your favorite genre to write?

  29. Josette Schaber says:

When you’re fleshing out your characters, do you search for an image of what the character looks like? Does it help to have someone in mind that makes you think of that character?

    • Keri Lake says:

You’d think that would be such a fun part of writing, but it actually turns out to be kind of difficult for me to put faces to my characters. Oddly enough, I tend to pair music to help flesh out their personalities! So for example, for Ayden, I listen to a lot of Paramore & Flyleaf. For Logan, I had a Deftones song that helped bring out his character. The only character that I think I could put to a face, is a really buff David Gandy for Gavin. He kind of embodies the look and the smooth style of this demon brother.

  30. Bonnie says:

Congratulations on Soul Avenged! What is your favorite type (vampire, witch, shapeshifter, etc.) of paranormal character to read or write about?

  31. susan landowski says:

Love paranormal genre especially urban fantasy since grittier. Hop you do well and stay imaginative. I have also really been into the angel series by various author’s.

  32. MargeD says:

Are wolves more interesting than felines

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Marge! I like writing dark, dangerous alpha males and wolves are more commonly associated with those features. But I’m thinkin’ you should give Soul Avenged a read ;)

  33. Krissy H says:

This sounds like a great book and will be added to my TBR pile. How many books to you plan to write in this series?

    • Keri Lake says:

So far I’ve plotted a book for each of the brothers (there are seven Sons of Wrath). I’m also planning some novellas in between. I like writing those short little snippets of their lives and have prepared a few of them on the blog tour for the book :) I’ll be posting one to my Facebook page tomorrow.

  34. Theresa says:

This was such a cool way to do a release party! I missed the RSVP time because I was working but I wanted to stop by anyway!

  35. Denise Z says:

Thank you so much for sharing with us, I was just going over my wishlist this morning and guess what was at the top. LOL I RSVP and promptly forgot about the event and was so glad I happened on it.

I noticed in the comments that you are anticipating seven books in the series, one for each brother, (if this is a redundant question I apologize) Do you see these as stand alone books within the same world, or will the “saga” continue as the series progresses?

Looking forward to getting my paws on this tasty morsel and following your journey.

    • Keri Lake says:

Haha! Thank you so much Denise! Glad you stopped by! The books are set up to be an ongoing saga but I’d like readers to feel satisfied at the end of each story, as if it could be a stand-alone, but open for the next book. I tried to do this with Soul Avenged and its subplots.

  36. Anne C says:

Hi Keri. Congrats on this book. I like the cover. The girl on it looks kick-ass! :)

For my question, what does writing mean to you?

    • Keri Lake says:

Thanks so much Anne! I think you’ll find the cover accurately represents the character in the story ;)

Writing is a means of release. In college I wrote during breaks while studying. In my job, I write during lunch breaks. I write very early in the morning (as early as 3:00-4:00am) and I would probably compare the feeling to the first sip of coffee (or for a smoker I suppose it’d be the first drag).

  37. Margay R says:

How did you decide what genre to write in – or did it choose you?

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Margay! I’d say it kind of chose me. I’ve always liked dark stories. When I read a book, I want to be transported to a different world. Paranormal romance and urban fantasy just seemed to fit!

  38. Lois M. says:

Hi! :) Sounds like the perfect place to set it, given the problems in Detroit nowadays… is there another location you’d just love to set a book/series in?

    Lois

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Lois! I’d like to set a series in NYC so I’d have an excuse to visit for research. ;) A few years back, I traveled to Prague and would love to set a story there.

  39. “If she could create mystical powers for herself, she’d have the ability to flash to anywhere in the
world. And if she could flash to anywhere in the world at this very moment, she’d be staring at
the ocean from her Adirondack chair on the shores of North Carolina.”
I’m a North Carolinan and though I live in the foothills, I visit the beach as often as possible.
Question, what NC beach would you put that chair?

  40. Something people would be surprised to know about me is…

    I can’t live without…

    • Keri Lake says:

I’m a science geek. I studied Microbiology and Medical Technology and when I was a kid, I used to conduct the experiments from (my favorite) Mr. Wizard book.

Assuming family is a given here, I can’t live without my playlist. I love music.

  41. Koren C says:

    Hi Keri,
Book looks good, I love finding new authors.

Do you generally set one large or many small goals?

  42. Koren C says:

What do you do to reward yourself when you reach your goals?

  43. LorettaLynn says:

This sounds just the right kind of book i need :) I’m looking forward to reading this

  44. Keri Lake says:

Thanks Koren! I think I do a combination of both. I always have my eye on that big goal but in the meantime, I set smaller goals in my attempt to move toward it. When I write, I like to visualize and sometimes quickly jot down the very last scene in the story because it pushes me along. In between though, I work on chapters at a time.

  45. Mary Preston says:

Is there a genre you have not written in yet that you would love to?

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Mary! I’d like to try horror sometime. I think those stories have the ability to stay with a reader long after the read. I wouldn’t mind attempting a regular contemporary romance at some point too. It’d have to wait though. I really enjoy writing supes!

  46. Josette Schaber says:

If you could give one piece of advice to another writer, what would it be?

  47. Koren C says:

Do you keep track of random plot bunnies as they pop up or do you let them run free and grow until you need them?

    • Keri Lake says:

When I get the opportunity, I like to jot the random plot bunny down on a note card. Ideas tend to dart in and out of my head rather quickly–and they’re easily forgotten.

  48. Thank you for taking the time to answer everyone’s questions >^.^< If you ever like answering some more let me know lol

  49. Kamla L. says:

I’m not too late, am I??? I RSVPed 2 days ago but got caught up in some major family drama today and hope I’n not too late. I love PNR/UF and follow several of the older ongoing series but it’s been quite a while since I have been this excited about a new upcoming series. I have been stalking the SOUL AVENGED tour and becoming more and more feverishly intrigued by your characters and the darkly tantalizing and steamy world of your series. It all just sounds so fresh and uniquely imaginative. Can’t wait to get started!!!

  50. Vanessa says:

This looks interesting. Thanks for the giveaway!

  51. Stefanie Gladden says:

What are your favorite movies that were based on books?

    • Keri Lake says:

I actually really liked the Hunger Games movie. But to be honest, I don’t watch too many movies these days! I’ll catch the occasional series here and there. Was really into Game of Thrones for a while. And I liked True Blood until I found out they had no plans for Quinn (WTH?).

  52. Lesley D says:

Thanks for being here! What’s your absolute favorite moment in Soul Avenged?

  53. Alicia Batista says:

Hey this giveaway is amazing! How did you come up with the idea for this series??? Well it sounds amazing! Thanks for the giveaway! :-)

    • Keri Lake says:

Thanks Alicia! The idea for the series sort of evolved as the characters were developed. I really hadn’t planned to write an entire series, maybe just the one book, but the characters kind of demanded it.

  54. Holly C says:

This series really does sound amazing!! I came in on your tour a little late but have been stalking it ever since, like Kamla!! =) Can’t wait to get my hands on it!!!!! =)

  55. JulianaP says:

One of my friends told me about this book so I decided to give it a read. I really enjoyed it!!! More Sons of Wrath please! I haven’t been satiated by them yet!

    • Keri Lake says:

So glad you enjoyed it Juliana! And yay for the recommendation from your friend! I’m actually posting a short Wrath Brothers snippet on my Facebook page tomorrow ;) Thanks for giving it a go!

  56. I absolutely LOVE the cover of this book and can’t wait to read it thanks for the awesome give away

  57. Okay another comment – shared this on my blog how could I not book sounds amazing and great giveaway

  58. Kimberly Sheridan says:

Thank you for the opportunity to win the gift card. After reading your post about the book, I added your book to my wish list. I’m going in for surgery in 4 weeks and the recovery will take 10 weeks, so I’m stocking up. I don’t dare buy it now – I’ll be done with it by tomorrow night. Thanks, and keep up the great work!!

  59. Tina Myers says:

Where did you get your ideas for your books??

  60. Tina Myers says:

I really like what you are doing here with the Q and A..

  61. Bethany C. says:

Do you have a favorite literary or cinematic tragic love story?

    • Keri Lake says:

Honestly, I can’t deny that my favorites are some of the most famous – Tristan & Isolde, Romeo and Juliet. I took a class in high school that exposed me to Shakespeare and though I didn’t hit it off with the teacher at first, I loved reading the assignments.

  62. Bhal Afahr says:

If you’d flash yourself to someplace where you’d sit in an Adirondack chair, wouldn’t it make more sense to be looking at a mountain lake in the Adirondack mountains?

(I probably wouldn’t have asked this question if it was for the fact that I live in the Adirondack mountains. Near a lake, for that matter!)

  63. Rae M. says:

    Hi!

Firstly, this sounds so up my alley, so this is definitely on my must-read list.

I also have to say that I love hwen people add places that they’ve lived to the story. It alsways adds so much to the story. So do you think any of your characters will make any trips to Michigan?

Thanks, looking forward to reading this!

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Rae! Thank you, I hope you enjoy the read! It’s definitely easier to write about a place I know ;) Not sure I understand the question though, which I’ll blame on not having had enough coffee yet.

  64. Raonaid Luckwell says:

What three characteristics are a MUST for you with a character (both in writing and reading0

    • Keri Lake says:

I like my males to be alpha, the females to have some strength (even if it’s not immediately apparent what that is) and I like all my characters to be flawed somehow to give them a bit more dimension.

  65. Raonaid Luckwell says:

If you could live in any literary world which one would you choose? I would totally move in Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar series! I wanna see the Heralds, their companions, the gryphons, The Shin’a'in, and Hawkbrothers!

  66. Sherry J says:

congrats on your new release, can’t wait to read your book.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

    dragonkeep62(at)gmail(dot)com

  67. Sherry J says:

    I’ve RSVP’d too.

  68. Soo says:

Will Wrath make an appearance in the series? It would be cool to see who fathered the sons that has caught my attention. =)

    • Keri Lake says:

      Hi Soo!
You know, I’ve tossed this idea around a couple of times. Thinking about it … he’s a pretty powerful demon. We’ll see ;) Thanks for stopping by!

  69. Stacey A Smith says:

How Many Different Kinds of Paranormal Creature have you Written about in your books? and witch one have you not write that you want to write about?

    • Keri Lake says:

Soul Avenged itself has demons (so many species including incubus and succubus), lycans, ghouls, hellhounds, nephilim and trolls. Believe it or not, vampires have not yet made it into my books–mostly just flash and short stories. I’d like to write about them. Thanks for stopping by Stacey!

  70. Bonnie Hilligoss says:

I also live in a Detroit suburb, so my question is…..Why pick a city for the background that most people would avoid because of its bad reputation?

    • Keri Lake says:

Actually, that is the perfect reason to pick Detroit as the setting for this book! Most humans in the story are unaware of the supes and blame gangs for the attacks. I wanted a place to stage this war zone of lycans, demons and Alexi soldiers. Detroit also appeals to Ayden, the female lead, who is broken and scarred. She feels ‘at home’ in the ruins of the city.
Although Detroit has its challenges and there are parts that aren’t pretty, it has underlying charm & intrigue.

  71. Jessica Snow says:

May I ask what inspires you to write?
    Thanks for this giveaway! =)

    • Keri Lake says:

Hi Jessica! My pleasure! I love creating worlds. When I pop in the earphones and sit down to write, I feel like I’m slipping into another realm and it’s fun! As for what inspires the actual writing? I draw inspiration from a variety of things, but I’d say music most of all.

  72. Keri Lake says:

Just want to say thank you to Bitten by Books for hosting this fun event! Loved having the opportunity to interact and answer questions from readers.

And huge thanks to readers who stopped by to chat, shared the news about my book and have read/plan to read it! ❤ I so appreciate the kind comments!

  73. Linda says:

Love the blurb and can´t wait for my chance to read this one.
Is this series planned to be a new couple for each book or are we following Ayden & Kane through their quest for HEA?
Thanks for the giveaway & Happy Friday!
    //Linda

    • Keri Lake says:

Good morning Linda and Happy Friday to you!
Yes, future books will focus on each of the brothers now but Kane and Ayden will make their appearances throughout the series :) Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Keri! It’s the weekend in Aus now! Whoop whoop! I’m sure you get lots of serious questions…. So, I’m trying to lighten the mood a bit, grab your favourite book and character, jump into a time machine……. Where would you go??? Hmmm mm!!

    • Keri Lake says:

Oh man! If its the weekend already I guess I’ll be shipping off to your side of the globe! haha :)

Let’s see … (I love this question by the way) The time period doesn’t really matter because I’d toss out all the electronics. I’d kidnap Rydstrom Woede from Kiss of a Demon King, find a secluded beach (I’m thinking maybe an island somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle so we’re not all interrupted by pesky rescue ships and stuff) and let my imagination run absolutely wild.

I’d keep the time machine just in case, by some misfortune, we are rescued. I can go back and do it all again ;)

This book sounds really good! Thanks for the great giveaway!

    • Sara Doyle says:

What gave you the idea for this book?

      • Keri Lake says:

Hi Sara! My pleasure! And thank you!

The idea for this book came from a number of sources – inspiration over the course of time that just sort of melded together into the storyline that eventually came out on paper. I wanted to write a kickass female, set the story in Detroit, write about smooth, mafia style brothers who own a casino, a dark and gothic tale of vengeance. It all seemed to align at once and made sense for the story so I decided to take a chance and see how it unfolded.

        Thanks for stopping by!

How does your family influence your writing? Do you get a lot of ideas from those close relationships? I know my imagination is sparked by mine all the time, and I’m not an author. I bet you probably get some interruptions that are frustrating on the other side of the scale! I’d love an example. :)

    • Keri Lake says:

As much as I try to keep those close relationships from the writing, it happens. I try to infuse real emotions into my characters and for that, it sort of requires a bit of my own personal experiences.

As for interruptions. Um yeah, nothing quite kills the mood like being right in the middle of a hot and steamy love scene, only to have the cable abruptly snipped with, “MOM!!!!” As a result, I’ve learned to write certain scenes at certain times of the day.

hi KEri, you are new to be but I do like what you have written in this post, will have to try to read your books :)

  78. Shannon G. says:

I think I’d like to know what your preferred music is and if you listen to music while writing. I’m addicted to music and like to listen while I read so I am curious about the author’s view.

  79. Gabrielle says:

What a great sounding book. Do you enjoy any other creatures in the paranormal world?

  80. Susan S. says:

Love the cover! Sounds like a great read.

  81. Isabel Vazquez says:

Thanks for the invite! Your book sounds so good! It does make it nice to base your book somewhere you are familiar with. I know a lot of research goes into writing a book. I can’t wait to read it!

    • Keri Lake says:

Yes, I like to know as much as I can about a location before I write it. In this case though, I grew up on the outskirts of the city, so it was just a matter of reaching back into memories. My sister’s photography helped too! I have another sister who lived right off Woodward in Detroit (she went to Wayne State) and I was able to bounce stuff off her too.

  82. bn100 says:

How many books are planned for the series?

    • Keri Lake says:

So far I have a book planned for each brother (there are seven Sons of Wrath) and a couple of novellas. We’ll see though, if readers decide they like this world, I happen to love writing it and wouldn’t be opposed to more stories. There are hundreds of demon species so a lot of opportunity.

  83. bn100 says:

What was the inspiration for the cover?

    • Keri Lake says:

I wanted something dark and kind of gritty. I’ll be discussing this on one of the upcoming tour stops. The staircase in the background is an actual shot my sister’s fiancee took from the abandoned Packard Plant in Detroit. :)

  84. Coreena says:

Hi Keri, I am new to your books and am putting them on my “to read” list! I am always looking for new urban fantasy books. :) . Looking forward to reading yours.

  86. Raluca P. says:

What is your favorite place for writing? What kind of things usually inspire you?

  87. Keri Lake says:

Hello Raluca! My favorite place to write is actually out on the deck during the summer. :) Music always inspires me to write. I’m also inspired by poetry and pictures too. I was at a salon the other day and a very dark painting caught my eye that, as I stared at it while getting my hair washed, instantly relayed a horror story. Couldn’t write it down though. Bummer.

  88. Chris J. says:

Who or what do you like to read when your not writing?

    • Keri Lake says:

I’ll read just about anything that sounds good. I like recommendations from friends because I don’t often have a lot of time to seek out great books. My all-time favorite genre is paranormal romance and urban fantasy though.

  89. Cheryl M says:

What’s your favourite genre to read?

  90. Joani S says:

Hi there! What are your thoughts on audiobooks? Listen to any? How do you think this would do in audio format?

    • Keri Lake says:

Haha! As long as it’s not my voice being recorded I think it would do just fine as an audiobook!

You know, at first, I was a bit reluctant to jump on the audiobook thing. Personally, I’ve always loved storytelling, but being on the receiving end of it? I thought it’d be too slow and drag along–I can be a very impatient reader sometimes. But a few years back, my mom picked one up for a road trip and, as much as I grumbled about it, I actually enjoyed it!

  91. Joani S says:

I think this sounds great, I will def be checking it out!!

  92. antane says:

Congrats on the new book. What is your favorite book related memory?

    • Keri Lake says:

Hmmm. I think it’d have to be when my mother gave me A Child’s Garden of Verses for my birthday as a kid. She wrote a message inside the cover. My pleasure, Antane! Thanks for following!

  93. Pamk says:

looks and sounds great. Am adding to my wish list. do you go to cons or reader writer gettogethers and which ones if so.
