For those who are new to the books, what is your Monster MASH series about?
It’s a new paranormal romance series that takes place in and around an other-worldly MASH unit during a seemingly endless war.
Petra and her colleagues at the MASH 3063rd have been drafted until the end of the conflict, which is bad for Petra but even worse for people like her vampire roommate, Marius. They’re living in this quirky, ad-hock camp, trying to make the best of it while they work long hours in the operating room, putting soldiers back together – knowing that they’re probably going to see these injured heroes again and again – if they’re lucky.
The underlying tragedy brings the oddball personalities in the camp together. They develop ways to keep their sanity and to create the kind of relationships that offer a port in the storm. It’s been such a fun story to write – intense, yet sweet at the same time.
What challenges do your characters have to face in the latest installment, Immortally Embraced?
Well, for one thing, Medusa is pregnant. And she’s never an easy patient. She’s actually a lot of fun to write. I mean, yes, she is serpent-goddess, executioner of men, scourge of Kisthene’s plain. But she has feelings, too.
The second book also brings a surprise from Petra’s past, and she also ends up going AWOL to learn about this nasty new weapon from a murdered research scientist in an enemy camp. So we get to see her use her power in a cool, new way and we also get to see what it’s like on the enemy side.
How is this series different from your Accidental Demon Slayer series?
There’s more sex! Oh, wait. That’s probably not what you want to hear. Or is it?… Seriously, though, this series has the humor of the Accidental Demon Slayer series, but it is more dark in parts and Immortally Embraced – especially – comes with some big surprises.
What’s the Paranormal News Network?
PNN (The Paranormal News Network) is the news outlet covering the war. The doctors, nurses and support staff at the MASH 3063rd watch it on the only television in camp, a beat up, 1970′s cabinet model that is set up in the mess hall.
For fun, I’ve developed a website for PNN, offering readers the latest in paranormal news. Think of it as a paranormal version of The Onion. PNN covers important stories like: Mayan Insider Scoop! Developed Armageddon “Prophecy” After Tequila Bender; and Five Things in Your Lair That Can Kill You.
It’s at www.PNN-Network.com

Have you ever thought of doing a series cross over?
There are little cookies in the MASH books for readers who are really paying attention. Take a look at Fr. McArio’s hellhound, Fitz. In Immortally Yours, we learned that Father got Fitz from his exorcist friend Las Vegas. That’s the priest from What Slays in Vegas (a demon slayer novella). And the hellhound is a puppy of the hellhound the main character, Shiloh, owns in that book.
Petra’s roommate, Rodger, is from the Topanga pack in California, which is the same pack as Heather (the heroine in Murder on Mysteria Lane, a novella in The Real Werewives of Vampire County anthology).
I also RSVPed to this event.
How much of your books are based on actual events/people in your life?
Excuse me. What was your question? I was too busy getting a foot massage from my hot demi-god lover.
I wish the books were based on something in my life. But if they were, then they’d be about a writer on a green couch who talks to her poodle all day. Wait…
I suppose the one thing I do draw from experience is PNN. I have a degree in broadcast journalism and worked for awhile as a television reporter. PNN is my response to some of the absurdities I saw in television news.
Do you ever put your books on sale?
The MASH books are with Macmillan/St. Martin’s Press and they don’t take pricing cues from me. But I do have occasional sales on the series I control. Those are the Accidental Demon Slayer books and they’re up on Kindle/Nook/Kobo/etc for $2.99.
Are there any creature, that you haven’t used yet in your MASH series, that you are really wanting to do?
I would suggest a dark elf but then that’s me! LOL.
Oooh…I like dark elf. I am fitting a chimera in to the next book in the series. That big guy was hard to keep track of, what with the goat head and the lion head and the snake head coming off the back end. He was never in a good mood, either. I guess I don’t blame him.
I have a fond weakness for dark elves/drows. They are so siniter and twisted that makes them so badass. LOL. I bet they could run nose to nose with the Biker Witches…
Ant Eater vs a dark elf. Bets, anyone?
Depends on the dark elf. They are tricky siniter lot
Totally have to be here for my girl Angie! Even got so excited when I seen Rachel post this on facebook that I shared it on her street team!
Yay!!!!! Thanks, girlie!
Ok…Question: If you could be any mystical creature which one would you choose and why? LOL
This is going to sound crazy, but I really like Medusa. She started off as this bit character, but she kept coming back and she has a big part in book 3 and I just love her. Sure, she’s damned and she lives on an island surrounded by a poison lake, but at least she has her privacy. And she has friends and worries and goals and frankly, she has a pretty nice life – once you get past the snakes on her head and the fact that she can get pissed off and turn people to stone. Then again, I have a short list of people I might want to zap, so there’s another reason to lean toward “team Medusa.”
Hehe I have a few people that she can turn to stone or use for torture. * whistles innocently *
See? She’s a good friend to have!
Love the covers for the series. Do you have any say in them?
Thanks! I don’t have much say in the covers. I offered to interview dozens of hot, shirtless men, but it seems the art department wanted to do that themselves. Imagine!
If you could pick the brain of any author live or dead who would it be and why?
!
Thank you so much for being here
That would have to be Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels. I’ve read practically everything she’s written (at least twice) and it never fails to amaze me just how great she is at weaving storylines together. Her Amelia Peabody Egyptian Mysteries are some of my all-time favorite books. It’s so much fun to watch her characters grow and evolve.
How do you bridge human emotions and moral dilemmas with the other worlds and creatures you create? Is a it fun free for all, or do you try to work in thematic questions or statements into your stories?
War stories present so many opportunities to look at themes like the motivations behind bravery and sacrifice, truth vs mercy, and ironically – acceptance. You need to be able to quickly judge a situation if you’re to survive, or save someone else, yet how do you get below the surface to see what is truly happening? We are all so much more than what anyone can initially see. I’ve had so much fun exploring that.
Loved the first book, and can’t wait to get my hands on book two. Is there a particular area you kind of based your book on?
I’ve actually taken a lot of inspiration from Red Rock outside of Las Vegas.
Ha! I can’t wait to read this one!!!
I love the concept for this series and I can’t wait to see Medusa pregnant!!! LOL
Happy release day Angie!!! Hope the book is a huge success!!!
Lisa
Thanks! And I’m sure you know how this goes: Medusa was supposed to be a bit character. But then she’s so flipping entertaining to write, and I started to really like her despite myself, and now she’s come into her own. There’s even a big, gorgon baby shower in the book that’s coming out this summer. Oy vey.
LOL You crack me up!!!
Can’t wait to read it…
I love when characters decide to change your whole plan…
Lisa
Me, too. And it ended up working so well into the climax of book 3 that it looks like I planned the whole thing. Which, ahem, I did. Of course. We always know what is going to happen in our books.
Do you have any unusual or special talents excluding your storytelling abilities?
I can eat an entire frozen pizza in one sitting. Oh wait. That’s not a talent…
If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
The past. The future scares me a bit, unless we’re talking the future according to Angela Castle, Sylvia Day, Mina Carter & Kurt Drake, Eve Langlas, Laurann Dohner or anybody else that populates space with hot, sexy men.
Hi there!! I saw 2 of the demon slayer series is on audible, I have them in my wish list even tho I own the kindle copies. I love hearing books read to me. Do you know if this series is going to be available in audio soon?
I have no idea about audible versions of the MASH books. Will have to ask. I do love the woman they have doing the voice on the demon slayer audio books. She’s just so southern and perfect for Lizzie.
Do you write all the stories, I’m sorry, news articles on PNN? They are just freaking awesome!!
Thanks! Yes, I do write the articles for PNN. In fact, I have several floating around the house, written on the backs of envelopes. Must find them and get them up on PNN!
Hello All!
Sorry I am late but my life and my computer conspired to cause it. We went for our follow up for Eerie’s poisoning yesterday and he has a completely clean bill of health. YAY!!!
Ok, we have heard who is up and coming and who you would like to be. Now tell me, Which of the many creatures and beasties in your books (or the world) would you most like to have the care and feeding of? Something big & burly, cute and cuddly, something to scare the neighbors?
Yay for healthy puppies!
And as far as someone for me to take care of, would Rodger count? Petra’s werewolf roommate is technically a canine. I’d totally be willing to hide a few of his pet sea monsters in my footlocker if it meant playing around with all of his Star Trek gear, not to mention his rock collection. I’d make him take me to karaoke a the Officers’ Club. He could buy me shots of Hell’s Rain and I could make sure we found his tent at the end of the night.
Sniff Sniff – Four of the five out of the latest batch will be leaving this thursday for their forever home. Then the 12th the last pup leaves for her new home. Oh man..
Aww…do you have pictures up on Facebook?
Of course, Angie! They are too cute…
Tagged you so it’s easier to see
Hi Angie!!! First, I am super excited that there is another Demon Slayer book on the way. I hope we see more engineering witches.
I have to admit I haven’t picked up the new series, but to be honest, I haven’t really been reading. I think I might have read 1 book last year. Life has been super busy. I have a huge pile to check out, and yours are on the top. I made it my resolution to start reading again. I miss it.
I hope the witches are only wreaking only fun havoc
Ha! Well, the witches seem to think they know what’s best for Lizzie’s wedding. Of course so does Lizzie’s society mother. And her Greek in-laws. My Big Fat Demon Slayer Wedding is going to be crazy.
Good to see you, btw! Engineering witches rule!
Hi Angie! I’m loving the concept of this and can’t wait to read it.
My question is: Where did this concept come from? What sparked the idea for your MASH unit?
It originally came from a pet peeve. I love paranormal books and am a voracious reader, but it has always driven me a bit nuts when a character is gravely injured in one scene, then they heal right up and almost take it for granted.
I started thinking: what if it wasn’t that simple? What happens when things heal wrong? Or you lose a part? Or your enemies develop weapons that really will kill you?
I liked the idea that these soldiers who would otherwise be immortal could lose their lives on the battlefield. And I liked what that meant for the people on the ground, the mortals like Petra, who have to go in and try to save these soldiers.
hi Angie, I need to ask you to get larger tshirt sizes so they will fit be better, lol
Duly noted!
well if we are making requests…….V necks would be wonderful too.
My guy can do sizes S – XL as v-necks. Then everything else is regular. I give 5-10 Kiss My Asphalt tees away in every newsletter, so if you’re not signed up, you can do it on my website on the contact page.
Who are some of your favorite paranormal authors? What are you reading now?
I love Kerrelyn Sparks, Lynsay Sands, Katie MacAlister, MaryJanice Davidson, Cynthia Eden, Kathy Love, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Charlaine Harris, Molly Harper, Vickie Lewis Thompson, Laurell K Hamilton, Anne Rice (her vampire series is what got me into paranormals), JR Ward, Lora Leigh, Karen Marie Moning, Michelle Bardsley (although I’m woefully behind on her right now). About half of what I read is paranormal. The other half are books like the KGI series by Maya Banks, Laurann Dohner’s hot space men stories, or right now, I’m reading Saving Sara by Angela Castle.
If I had to choose between reading and writing, I’d choose reading.
If I wish real hard will you come to the Tucson Festival of Books one year?
Heck, yeah. Tell them to invite me!
Koren and I think you should totally write us as whacky, No Pants sisters in one of your books. LOL! We’d be awesome! LOL. Right Koren?
You would be awesome. I think the armies would be afraid of you.
* Laughs * They totally would, wouldn’t they? Hehe! No one is spared by us. hehe!
What was your favorite childhood book?
Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock
Have you ever written fan fiction? For what fandom?
I haven’t done fan fiction. Has anyone here tried it?
I am so glad to see you at BBB again! I eagerly anticipate this read and love Petra’s story. It was also cool to note that you were a fan of the Amelia Peabody series, a personal fav. Are you going to do a new quiz to go with this book / series?
Angie Fox new release and weekend = great weekend!
I loved the Accidental Demon Slayer series! and look forward to reading this new one. I’ve seen the covers around (they’re great by the way), but have to wait for some book money before buying
From the description above this seems a bit different from the other series, so what triggered your need to write this one? Was there an event that made you think of the premise?
BTW, MASH (the TV series) was my favorite when I was little. I used to watch the re-runs all of the time until they took them off the air. I even wrote the TV station a letter asking them to put them back on LOL So, I have a feeling if this series is anything like that show, I’m going to love it.
Thanks.
Who’s your favorite character in the series and why?
Thanks, Susan – USA
I haven’t read any of your books but they sound fantastic and the cover is gorgeous!
Did you get buried in the snow like the rest of us? It was CRAZY! Kept me from my weekly B&N trip. I’ll have to go this weekend so I can pick up the new book!
any plans to do more in the biker witches series? (i love dmitri!!!)
p.s i want lizzie’s dog!!!!
What’s your favourite paranormal romance ever??
I have read a couple older books of your’s but look forward to reading the new series.
How about the bad boy be named Kester?
I am currently having difficulty getting past the demi-god massaging your feet and really really think he should have a place in your next adventure – any thoughts, might he be available for those outside the pages
Thank you for sharing with us and making me smile.
It’s been awhile since I noticed a new post at PNN. Are you planning on doing more?
I have heard a lot of good things about this series and its been added to my TBR pile. How many books do you plan to write in this series?
How did you come up with the idea to write this book???
Love the tat on the guys back – sweet..ou. Thank y
How did you come up with the title of your book?
Where/How did you get the inspiration for this series? Did any of it come from the MASH 4077th?
Love the blurb and added your series on my TBR list, =) can´t wait for my chance to read! Is this a series you´ve planned a lot of books for?
I love when i find a world i enjoy reading, and the author just adds to the series, =D
Thanks for the giveaway & Happy Friday!
//Linda
I love the set up for this series. I was looking at Keri Lake’s latest and ended up over here. Most definitely going to have to pick these up!
Sparked from my endless curiosity, what is your favorite mythological character? You clearly hit them up throughout this series, which is a winner in “my book.” =P (Har har) Loki is probably my favorite; I’ve seen so many different spins on him in books, so much potential!
Does MASH stand for something?
How many books are planned for the series?
I read Immortally Yours back in the Fall and loved it. Looking forward to reading Immortally Embraced.
After reading thru all of the q&a I’m very interested and will be adding them to my width list. Thanks!
Who are the people who inspire you the most?
I know you have another series out there, so my question is, do you always write your books with the intention of them becoming a series or do you just realize after the first one is done that it has the potential of becoming a series?
How long have you been writing these types of books? What was your inspiration behind them?
