When you mix a woman on the run with a dark lord harboring a deadly reputation, you had better batten the hatches because a storm is surely brewing — and that is only the beginning. When a guest turns up murdered in his own room, theories begin to fly, placing Evangeline and Gavin firmly in the middle of all the controversy. But who is really the guilty party?
Evangeline is a heroine to be proud of. She has been through heck and back, as she can see flashes of the future and/or past when she touches someone, but she never stops trying to better her situation. She is beautiful, smart, and witty beyond measure. Even when she knows she has no other choice but to conform, she still finds a way to hold to her principles and hold on to her dignity. She is the perfect cure for Gavin’s dour personality.
I was not sure how much I was going to like Gavin at first. He starts out very cold and brooding, a fitting lord of his dark and gloomy manor. But, as Evangeline begins to work her magic on his icy demeanor, he begins to thaw and show a bit of his humorous side. Once he opens up to her and we get to know him, he turns out to be a lot of fun. He has a huge heart and a head for business, a true lord of the manor in many ways. He is just the person to bring out Evangeline’s wild side and teach her that she is not doomed to a life without love.
The constant teasing and bantering between Gavin and Evangeline really makes for a fun story. When you add in all the delicious tension between the two of them, Evangeline’s daring to cross the lines of society’s approved behaviors, and the cast of crazy side characters, you get one fun ride. I have always loved historical novels, so I knew I was likely to enjoy this one, too. What really made me love it was the addition of the feisty heroine with nothing to lose. A heroine like that is up for anything. And when your heroine is up for anything, you never know what might happen next. Too Wicked to Kiss is a fun and intense story that sucked me in and held me tight.
