How To Lose a Demon in 10 Days by Saranna DeWyldeDon’t ever let anyone tell you that being a witch will make your life easier. It’s about as fun as a visit to a drunken proctologist. It’s my own fault, I suppose. I am the one that summoned the demon.

You must understand that Michael drove me to it. He’s my still kind of hot, but completely evil, Russian mobster ex-boyfriend. He’s stolen our son and wants me to sacrifice myself so he can buy his demonhood before he’ll give him back. I figured what better way to punish him than by summoning a demon who can beat him at his own game?

Well, that presented its own bag of problems. I didn’t get just any demon. I got Caspian, a Crown Prince of Hell who didn’t want my soul, but wanted me to ride his pitchfork like a scooter, if you get my drift. Maybe it’s more like a Harley. I have to confess that it’s still a beautiful piece of machinery even though it hasn’t been out of the garage since 1972. (You know, the devil-shagging gothics were all the rage then.)

I’m not sure how to get rid of him. I contemplated bad sex, but I decided that would have to be the centerpiece jewel in the Hurts Me More Than You crown.
What would you do to get rid of him? I mean, he may be a demon, but he’s still guy and I know we’ve all had those people who just keep turning up like a grease stain on your favorite shirt. I could really use some tips. Or you could help me give Michael what he has coming. If you were me, how would you wreak utter destruction down on this tool?
Oh, by the way, my author is here too, so if you want to ask Saranna some questions about the 10 Days series, (Book 2 comes out Sept 25) the book, or anything else, like the price of mugwort in Argentina go ahead. Although, if Caspian finds out we’re doing this, I can’t guarantee he’s not going to pop up around here somewhere. *whispers* Remember what I said about a grease stain? Of course, he is the most handsome… ugh. I won’t even finish that thought. Don’t tell him I said that. His horns will get all inflated and there will be no living with him.

Author Bio:
Saranna De Wylde has always been fascinated by things better left in the dark. She wrote her first story after watching The Exorcist at a slumber party. Since then, she’s published horror, romance and narrative nonfiction. Like all writers, Saranna has held a variety of jobs, from operations supervisor for an airline, to an assistant for a call girl, to a corrections officer. But like Hemingway said, “Once writing has become your major vice and greatest pleasure, only death can stop it.” So she traded in her cuffs for a full-time keyboard.

You are most definitely on my to read list!! I am so far behind right now, my mother fell and got a concussion so I’m falling even farther, but love books that take me away from reality a little bit but make me laugh while making me a little hot…..

Sounds like your books will do the trick just like Dakota’s do! Can’t wait, will purchase this one soon, I promise (if I win the drawing, it will be that much sooner)

I totally admire anyone who can take their fabulous ideas and put them on paper and get published. I am a much better reader than I am a writer!

    • Hi Michele,

Oh no! I hope she recovers soon. I give in-home care 24-7 to my mother-in-law, so I know how tiring that can be and we’re always worried about them even when they’re doing well, so when things like that happen… Good wishes to her and you.

Dakota is a goddess. We’ve decided that if we’re ever in the same space, it will be like crossing the streams and hijinks will definitely ensue. ;)

And as for being a reader or a writer, I think all good writers start out as readers and stay that way. Thanks for stopping in!

  2. Robin Blankenship says:

I can not wait to get my hands on this book. I love love love your style. And I love being a fan of yours on FB you are awesome and wicked funny. Good luck with the launch and again I can not wait to read this one.

  3. Viki S. says:

I just love characters interacting with the readers like this. I don’t know about bad sex getting rid of the demon. If he’s like most guys they don’t experience bad sex ;) .

    • Viki,

Sometimes, I just take over. Saranna doesn’t really get a say. ;)

Obviously, the bad sex didn’t work. I mean, I’d decided I wasn’t going to try that tactic, but Fate took that decision right out of my hands. Turns out certain things swell when you’re allergic to peanuts.

      We’re glad you stopped by.

    • Viki-

It looks like Grace’s reply got eaten! She’s going to tip her cauldron! *sneaks away*

  4. anita clay says:

I just preordered How to Marry a Warlock in 10 days. It is my first purchase of your books. I look forward to reading your work.

  5. Rae M. says:

Tips for getting rid of a demon who won’t go…tough one! You’re going to have to go all out for this. I’m talking full-out as unappealing as you can get(Well, without grossing yourself out)!It all depends…how far do you want to go to get rid of him. Maybe show him what you look like when you wake up in the morning? But it has been a while since 1972 and he might just stick it out. (I swear, no pun intended there!)

As for the Michael, the tool. Ooh can you have turn into something everytime he says a certain word! Or have him start to incontrollably cough everytime he tries to say something bad about you! I think you can see where I’m going with this.

    • Rae,

      Hehehe Stick out. *grin*

He, might, maybe have been cursed. I can definitely see where you’re going and I love it!

      • Rae M. says:

Glad I could make with the little joke!

But really, I swear I did not intend for that to be a pun! Did it make me also giggle a little when I re-read it? Yes.

Hey, I will take what little amusements I can!

  6. Rae M. says:

    A question for Saranna now

You said that some of the dialogue for Caspian came from your husband(I’m going to have a hilarious time trying to figure out which ones by the way) So, were any of Grace’s responses from you?

    Thanks!

  7. Julie T says:

I want to read this! Looks like a lot of fun. Great cover, too.

Okay…have to ask…what on earth does an assistant to a call girl do??? I don’t think I realized call girls would have assistants. Although I guess they need people to answer the phone and make, um, appointments just like any other businessperson. And how on earth did you land that job? (I have plot bunnies running around my head now.)

    • Julie-

Well, I was still rather green behind the ears at 18. Thought I knew everything, of course. I got a job at a temp service setting appointments. It was a start up, so there was only one temp. The call girl. I didn’t know any better. Really, it wasn’t a bad gig. All I did was fill her appointment calendar and answer the phone. I got to read or watch movies if the phone didn’t ring, so I thought I had it made. When I found out what was really going on, I called my mother and she laughed until she cried.

What’s worse was that I didn’t find out until her “boss” asked me to fill in for her. ;)

      • Julie T says:

ROFLMAO! I bet your mom laughed. :) I’m positive I would also have been just as clueless about what was really going on when I was 18. Anyway, it’s a fun thing to be able to add to your resume. Writers always seem to have the craziest, most interesting jobs held over the years.

        • Julie,

I think writers have to try everything so we get a wide sampling of the world and the people in it. I learned so much that helped me with character building when I was a corrections officer. But nothing ever really stuck but writing. There were things I enjoyed. Like the airline work and even the prison job. I was good at both, but writing was where I was meant to be.

Oh, and my mom still laughs about the call girl thing if you bring it up. :)

  8. Joani S says:

Hi there!! I just bought the book, it sounds like a great fun read!! Really looking foward to it. I checked out your site, very nice. I really enjoyed reading the small excerpt you had with the title Ride of the Varkyrie. That really grabbed my interest. Can you tell me more about that?

    • Joani-

Oh, that question just made my day! Ride of the Darkyrie is one of those projects I fell in love with, but it didn’t find a home. So, I’ve decided to release it as a serial, meaning a 10,000 word “pilot” and then three 30K “episodes” every month. I’ll price it so it will be on par with the average novel for all the episodes together, but I think doing another portion every month will be fun.

I don’t have cover copy yet, but here’s my little pitch for the series:

In each book, Brynn has three conflicts to deal with. One supernatural, one professional, and one personal. The story arc and theme that tie the series together is Brynn

  9. Bethany C. says:

Hi, I was wondering if you do research to name your characters, or just pick names you like? Or maybe just feel right?

    • Bethany,

      Hi!

I hate to be vague, but it really depends on the character. Since I had some Russian characters, I did try to stay true to their culture in most instances. I love their folk tales, culture, and language. It did give me excuses to learn really horrible insults in Russian. ;)

Most of the time though, my characters come to me fully formed. Including named.

  10. Joani S says:

What are your thoughts on audiobooks? I didn’t see any of yours listed available. Do you wish they were or do you think they might not translate well? I love audiobooks, I listen to them all day long.

    • Joani-

I think audiobooks are awesome. I can’t imagine hearing my own words read aloud though. Especially not with how steamy I write, because at my core, I’m really a thirteen year old boy who still laughs at butt jokes.

I think one of my Total E Bound releases is in Audiobook, but maybe just in the UK. I’m not sure. Sorry!

  11. LisaM says:

    Happy Release Day!!!

  12. LisaM says:

Love the title! It’s also a great cover. Looking forward to reading it

  13. Vanessa P says:

I was excited by that little interview. Super fun! I just added you to my TBR list! Thanks for the interview and giveaway!

  14. Joani S says:

As for getting back at Mr. Tool…One time my husband really really ticked me off, and since he’s such a music lover and has an extensive cd collection of imports and whatnot, I tipped over his 3 cd towers and jumped up and down on the cd’s doing as much damage as I could. Hit him where it hurts!! Of course now that I’m older (alot) I would never now do something like that, I see the money involved. Now I’d probably sell them on ebay!! :) So go take whatever asshat loves and do as much damage as possible!!

    • Joani-

You are a woman after my own heart. I’ve calmed down since I’ve matured and tried to find some peace in my life, but yeah. When my husband and I first got married thirteen years ago, we went through three sets of dishes. One we had to throw out because I refused to work 40 hours a week and do all the housework (yeah, your mother does it? Go live with her then.) another set because I threw them all at him… Yeah. Not my finest moment. And I don’t remember the other set, but they were collateral damage.

  15. What scares you most?

    • Lisa-

You have asked the one question I won’t answer. :) I’m a former corrections officer and it’s ingrained in me not to show my weakness and I definitely see anything that scares me as a weakness. I do lay myself pretty bare in my memoir, but I don’t think I answered it there either. Ask me anything else and it’s mostly fair game.

I know, quirky writers. We’re all a little nuts.

  16. Would you rather be a giant hamster or a tiny rhino?

  17. Would you rather always win pie-eating contests or always win wheelbarrow races?

  18. Raonaid Luckwell says:

Question: If you had the silver tongue ability (Inkheart) what book would you read and who/what would you read out of a book?

    • Raonaid-

      That’s a beautiful name.

A thought provoking question to be sure, but I don’t think if I had that power that I would ever speak again. Imagination and fiction are wonderful, but these things are all part of another world. Not our world. They wouldn’t fit.

I mean, my first response was to try to think of something wonderful and beautiful to bring into the world, and not to minimize anyone’s suffering or strife, but if everything is always perfect, then nothing is special. It’s our struggles and imperfections that define us and our pain that allows us to truly feel joy. So, no. If I had that power, I wouldn’t use it.

      • Raonaid Luckwell says:

Awww! Thank you! Raonaid is scots gaelic for my real name. I have paranoid hubby and mother – who do not like me using my real name on-line. I’ve been Raonaid online for a good ten plus years now.

  19. Raonaid Luckwell says:

Okay, is there a literary world (including your own) that you wish you were born into? If you could live in that world what would you be and or what would your role be?

    • Raonaid-

Oh, not my worlds. *shakes head* I put my characters through hell and back for their Happily Ever After. They get it, but they have to earn it.

I have a mad crush on Sandor Clegane from George RR Martin’s series, but I wouldn’t live in his world, either because I just know it’s not going to turn out the way I want it. ;)

I think I would have to say Susan Kay’s Phantom. I would, of course, be Christine. (I know, how boring of me, right?) But I absolutely love her portrayal of Erik and I’ve always wanted to give him his Happily Ever After.

      • Raonaid Luckwell says:

OMG!! You are the first author that I heard has read Susan Kay’s Phantom! That book had me bawling at the end! It has a place of honor among my book shelf.

Though isn’t it an author’s right to put their characters through hell? Though given half the chance I would love to live in my world..

        • I don’t think there are many who have read it. Which makes me so sad. But for those of us who have, it has almost a cult status. Like Rocky Horror or something. Or at least for me, it does. ;)

  20. Okay, lovelies, it has been fun, but I’m going to check out for awhile now. I’m off to work. But since we had technical difficulties and a bit of a rough start, I’ll still be checking back periodically. So keep those questions coming. :)

  21. Koren C says:

    Hi Saranna

A new author for me and I am already a book behind.

Do you generally set one large or many small goals?

  22. Koren C says:

What do you do to reward yourself whn you reach your goals?

    • Koren-

If they are small goals, I just enjoy the moment. Lots of times I will bribe myself with checking my email of FB.

When I sold this series of books, I got a tattoo. When I sold another book, I added to it.

  23. Koren C says:

Do you keep track of random plot bunnies as they pop up or do you let them run free and grow until you need them?

  24. Dovile P. says:

What is your favorite childhood book/series?

  25. Dovile P. says:

Have you ever written fan fiction? For what series?

    • Dovile,

When I was in middle school Dark Shadows Resurrection came out and the season finale ended up being the series finale. I was less than pleased. So I wrote my own ending. Then a friend and I wrote our own version of Raistlin Majere from Dragonlance. I blame him and Bender from The Breakfast Club for my addiction to tortured/scarred anti-heroes.

I tooled around in other fandoms in my twenties and it was a great way to practice craft.

  26. Sherri says:

I’m always looking for someone new to read. Can’t wait for the interview.

  27. Angela Perry says:

Congrats on your release. The book sounds great and will be added to be TBR list!

  28. Stacey A Smith says:

    such cute book names.

  29. June M. says:

I do love paranormal series. Do your books need to be read in order or are they able to stand alone?

  30. June M. says:

Do you have any authors who are automatic buys for you? Do you read PNR or try to stay out of the genre? I have read some authors say that they don’t read the genre of books that they write so that they won’t be influenced by them.

    • I don’t read while I’m working on a project to avoid being influenced. But for me, personally, I want to know what other people in the genre are doing. It’s also been a great love of mine for a long time, so I wouldn’t be able to stop reading PNR if you paid me. *g*

I have a couple authors who are automatic buys for me, but it’s cross genre. Kresley Cole, Jenna McCormick, Virginia Nelson, Eloisa James, Teresa Medeiros… the list is pretty long, actually.

  31. June M. says:

Who was the first person that you told when you got “the call”?

    • My husband. He knew I got the call before I did. When he saw my phone light up and the NY area code, he said, “Honey, you sold.” I told him he was full of crap and I refused to answer the phone. I was like, if it’s important they’ll leave a message. I don’t recognize the number so I’m not going to answer it. He said, “Honey, I’m telling you. It’s NY. Answer the phone.” So I did and the rest is history. *g*

  32. sue brandes says:

Will be adding your book to my reading. It sounds like a fun book.

  33. Jennifer Morrell says:

    Hi,
This looks good. I love reading demon stories.
Has this book been reviewed on Fresh Fiction.com?
    Jenn

  34. Miranda W says:

This looks really good. What kind of music do you like to listen to when you write?

    • Miranda-

I don’t listen to anything while I’m writing anymore. I’ve trained my brain to work without it. Which was a big accomplishment. But some characters do have playlists. I listen to a bit of everything from oldies, to classical, to heavy metal, to pop. Anything that speaks to me or for my characters. The Desperate Housewives of Olympus playlist was mostly Gaga’s Fame Monster.

  35. Miranda W says:

What do you like to eat when you’re working?

    • Miranda-

This is actually in transition. I have a pretty strict diet already, I have a lot of food allergies and I’m really working on getting healthy. It used to be coffee and chocolate. Now, I’m trying for green tea and a handful of nuts. Or fruit. But the chocolate beckons…

  36. Miranda W says:

I was just rereading Dragonlance. Again. Raistlin Majere is one of my all time favorite charterers. I would love to see what you came up with. Besides I was missing Tasselhoff. :)

    • Oh, it was bad. I even had a Mary Sue. But it was fun to run around in that world. I saw that Lord Soth has his own book now. It’s on my wishlist. Last I remember, he was dragging the Kitiara to Hell like the headless horseman. ;)

  37. Dovile P. says:

If your mind were a house, how would it look like inside? :)

    • It would look like something out of a horror movie where every second the landscape shifts to something else. There would be junk stacked up everywhere and it would belong on an episode of supernatural hoarders. My brain is a crazy place to be. I have so many story ideas and I don’t throw any of them out. My brain is always jumping from topic to topic, shiny thing to shiny thing. I wouldn’t know what to do with an organized mind. Although, my space that I live in? I can’t tolerate “stuff”. So maybe that’s my tradeoff. :)

  38. TIFFANY M says:
