Welcome to Serafina’s…

…Edinburgh’s unique psychic investigation agency. Discretion guaranteed.

Using technical as well as psychic techniques, we investigate and resolve all paranormal
issues, including unexplained noises and ghostly sightings.
We can contact your departed
loved ones, encourage troubled spirits to move on, give select psychic readings and provide
séances in private or social environments.

We can also help with “normal” problems by paranormal means, such as tracing missing
persons or valuable objects,

The team at Serafina’s is led by Serafina (Sera) MacBride, an experienced psychic and
medium who, although young, has talked to spirits all her life.

Ably supporting Sera are research assistants Jillian Kerr, IT specialist; and history graduate
Jack Urquhart.

On contacting Serafina’s, whatever your problem you will instantly be put at your ease by
our sympathetic and discreet receptionist, Mrs. Elspeth Duncan .

When required, the team can also draw on the services of security consultant, Thomas Allen,
and white witch Melanie Morrow.

Together, we make up Serafina’s, here to help with all your psychic needs.

Well, that’s the official version! Unofficially, things aren’t quite that simple. I’m Sera and I make most of my living ripping off rich people who have more money than sensitivity and
more interest in spectacle than specters. But I really do talk to the dead, always have, and I do have visions whether I want them or not. And trust me, frequently I don’t…

Anyhow, we at Serafina’s are just about to embark on a fun new case. Get this: retired finance whizz Ferdinand Bell hired me to catch someone he says is stalking his family. But
being the great Bell, it’s not your common or garden stalker. His has to be a vampire stalker. How gullible does he think I am??? EVERYONE knows there’s no such thing as vampires!

Well, old Ferdy’s about to discover that I always take the piss better. Jilly and I are heading up there now to festoon his massive house with garlic and big ugly wooden crosses just in time for his posh party tonight. Oh and we’ve got this hilarious little scene set up with Tam playing a vampire who’s going to “bite” Jack before I rush in and “stake” him and he
disappears into smoke!

The beauty of all this is, Bell can’t tell us to naff off without admitting he made up the vampire nonsense in the first place, so whatever happens we get one over on him and get paid. Fab. Did I mention that I love my job?

  1. Phoenix Carvelli says:

I have had two occasions when I have received brief communications from my deceased father – one, the night he died and the other, when I was in the hospital after emergency surgery. I feel he was letting me know he was still watching out for me.

  2. Hi everyone!

Phew! Thought I wasn’t going to get here at one point – had a busy day :) . But I have to say I’m thrilled to be back at BBB and celebrating this new release with you! Looking forward to all the chat!

Hope you;re well and happy – and that the weather’s being kind to you…

    :) Marie

  3. Brenda B. says:

    Hi Marie,

I have a few of your books in my TBR pile, I love anything paranormal. How did you get into writing? I also RSVP.

    • Hi Brenda!

Good to hear you have some of my books in your pile! Hope you enjoy them when you get to them :) .

I’ve always written stories since I was a child. As an adult, it was mostly for my own amusement – until I gradually realized that I really wanted other people to read and enjoy them, and that I wanted to write for my living. So I had a serious go, and here I am :) .

      Marie

  4. Raonaid Luckwell says:

Have you ever met a psychic who convinced you they were genuine?

Mm, a couple. But one really stood out. He revealed inner deep things I never spoke about and new when I got pregnant for my son.

    • Hello Raonaid! How are you?

Interesting…I have a psychic friend who said her older son knew before she did when she became pregnant with her younger son. She reckons her kids learned NOT to be psychic as the grew up.

      Marie

  5. Raonaid Luckwell says:

Have you ever had any psychic or ghostly experiences that either freaked or moved you?

As I mentioned the one person I spoke to told me inner stuff that I never revealed to anyone. That sort of spooked me that he could read me like.

Ghostly encounters – a couple. It’s weird when you smell scents in certain places and that’s it. Like coffee – neither I nor the hubby drink coffee but one area smelled for a good ten minutes like coffee.

    • Yes, that is spooky!

I never thought of it like that before, but sometimes early in the morning I get a whiff of cigarette smoke in the house, and none of us smoke – maybe that’s the same sort of thing :) . It reminds me of my childhood when my parents smoked.

      Marie

  6. Phoenix Carvelli says:

    Ms. Treanor,
Have you ever had a psychic or paranormal experience?
No, I do not believe all books regarding Scotland need to include kilts but they are nice. :)

    • I don’t THINK I’ve ever had a real paranormal experience. I did once have a dream that came rather horribly true, but then it might just have my interpreting it that way. I do have a friend who has and she says she’s seen visions of me in past life – which is a weird thought :) .

And on kilts – I think I’m with you Phoenix :)

      Marie

  7. Raonaid Luckwell says:

Should all stories set in Scotland feature kilts? Rawr – I say yes. But then there is nothing dashing like a proud male in a kilt, comfortable in his skin.

  8. Dina S says:

Have you ever had any psychic or ghostly experiences that either freaked or moved you? no still waiting, lol

  9. Dina S says:

no to all kilts, like other things from scotland also

  10. Juana Esparza says:

I have never met a psychic.

  11. Angela Perry says:

I RSVP’d. Um, have I ever met a psychic that convinced me they were genuine. Yes, I met one who I believed had some psychic talent. She knew several things that no one else knew. I was in a new town, no one knew me, and I had never met her before. She hit several items exactly right. As I looked back years later, I can still remember everything she said and 90 percent of what she said about my relationship and work for the future was correct.

    • Impressive, Angela. When I see/hear people like that, I often wonder if they have some gift, or if they’re just really perceptive readers of human character… But sometimes, things just can’t be explained like that!

      Marie

  12. Vanessa P says:

These look pretty good, just added to my TBR list. Thanks for the interview and giveaway!

  13. erinf1 says:

Thanks for a fun post and congrats on the newest release!

    1) I’ve never met a psychic so nothing to convince
    2) Luckily I’ve never been in a situation that was supernaturally scary
    3) I’m kinda 50/50 on Kilts… some men have the fugliest knees!

  14. Viki S. says:

No, I’ve never met a psychic that seemed real.

  15. Viki S. says:

Yes, I have felt the presence of ghosts or “something” before but no interaction.

  16. Margay says:

Not totally – not everything they predicted came true, only one thing, actually. I think the rest were all guesses.

  17. Viki S. says:

Kilts are not a must for me but the certainly are nice ;) .

  18. Margay says:

I’ve had quite a few psychic/ghostly encounters, actually.

  19. Margay says:

I don’t think it’s necessary for all stories set in Scotland to feature a kilt, but it sure adds interest!

  20. Angela Perry says:

Is this the first book in a series for Serafina? It sounds intriguing and definitely a book to go on my TBR list!

  21. LisaM says:

Happy Release Day! I am going to check this out!

  22. LisaM says:

I have never personally been to a psychic, but my mom saw one years ago and when she told me all she said, I was convinced that there people out there that have that ability. She told my mom things about ME. Personal things she could never have known. Some my mom only vaguely knew about.

  23. LisaM says:

for years I have felt that there was a “presence” that would come to me when I was sleeping. I know some would say it was just nightmares, but I have had nightmares and I can usually recognize them as such. I would literally scream or cry in my sleep. I felt like I was being attacked, One morning, My grandfather who I lived with at the time, told me he heard me “crying in my sleep”. It was the morning after one of these incidents. When I moved to Florida, I thought it would end because I believed it was a presence in that house. That didn’t happen. They started up again years later, most recently in the past few years. These “attacks” were much worse, I could see someone or something (only a shadow) and once it threw me into my bedroom closet. Now I was asleep, but I would wake up during them and have a hard time breathing, my bedsheets would be in shambles and Sometimes I had slight bruises. The last time it happened, I saw a little girl she came and grabbed me by the arms. I screamed at her “leave me alone you little bitch” and kicked her. I have not had an incident since. Maybe they were nightmares and by doing that I ended them. All I can say is they felt very real to me and I am glad they are over. Hopefully forever

    • Oh dear, sounds like you had a really bad – and scary! – time. I’m glad to hear it’s finally stopped though. Must have been very hard to deal with – good on you for getting through it.

      Marie

  24. LisaM says:

I don’t think all stories set in Scotland need to feature kilts. If it is important to a scene, sure, but I dont think it’s necessary

  25. Juana Esparza says:

Years ago when I was a teenager (very long time ago) one of my cousins was murdered. The window was opened and I heard his whistle. He was always whistling the Bonanza theme song. We found out later that night that he had passed away.

    jmesparza821(at)gmail(dot)com

  26. shell b says:

Oh this one going on my TBB list!

  27. shell b says:

There has never been one hands on meeting that I have met someone but I do believe as I get premonitions myself in a way.

  28. shell b says:

I have had dreams that were precognative. Dreams that I had repeatedly over years until the event happened then they stopped. One involved a dream of white satin closing over my face until it turned dark…. I had this one for years and years. The last time I had it was the night before I collapsed and my son was still born the next day. As I was in the hospital I did not pick out the coffin. It was white with white satin inside. I have not had the dream since. There have been others but that one stayed with me. My sons have said they seen a little boy in the hall upstairs when they were little but I myself have not seen him. This would have been the same hall where I collapsed with him. :)

    • That’s so sad, shell – I’m sorry.

And your other children seeing the ghost would fit in my friend’s belief in children’s natural psychic abilities. Thanks for sharing your story!

      Marie

  29. shell b says:

Kilts get a hells ya!!! LOL

  30. Well, it’s heading for 11 here, so I’m going to call it a night and get a few hours sleep – but I’ll be back early in the morning, so party on and I’ll catch up :) .

    Marie

  31. Vanessa P says:

Have you ever met a psychic who convinced you they were genuine?

    Yes.

  32. Vanessa P says:

Have you ever had any psychic or ghostly experiences that either freaked or moved you?

    - Yes.

  33. Vanessa P says:

Should all stories set in Scotland feature kilts?

Not necessarily. However, you gotta love a man in a kilt.

  34. Have you ever met a psychic who convinced you they were genuine?
Never met a psychic, but doubt they could convince me.

  35. Have you ever had any psychic or ghostly experiences that either freaked or moved you?

No, I guess I just live a dull life

  36. Should all stories set in Scotland feature kilts?
OMG! You mean they don’t! (falling over in a dead faint)

  37. What scares you most?

  38. Something people would be surprised to know about me is

  39. Lois M. says:

    Hi! :)

For the psychic questions, never met one, so I can’t say any convinced me they were real or not, and therefore couldn’t be freaked out or moved by them! :) Would I want to meet one – not really; don’t believe in it.

Kilts – sure! Just as long as those kilts come off at some point… ;)

And a question from me… so, do you know what is under those kilts, or no? ;)

    Lois

    • Hi Lois – another sceptic, I see :) .

Good point about the kilt coming off!

And yes, I know what’s traditionally worn under the kilt (nothing!), but that doesn’t mean to say everyone follows tradition. It can get pretty cold, wet and windy in Scotland :) .

      Marie

  40. Koren C says:

Hi Marie….lovely to see you again

Have you ever met a psychic who convinced you they were genuine?

No, I have not. Doesn’t mean it’s ot fun to go.

Have you ever had any psychic or ghostly experiences that either freaked or moved you?

No, but my dreams but I have had dreams that do both.

Should all stories set in Scotland feature kilts?

Damn right they should. YES YES YES

    • Hi Koren – lovely to see you too! How are you?

Yes, I can never make up my mind about dreams – and how do you tell which mean something and which are just the general mixed up brain-nonsense? I know there are people who make studies of this stuff, but let’s face it, dreams can freak you anyway, whatever they signify!

      Marie

  41. Bethany C. says:

Answer A Question – Should all stories set in Scotland feature kilts?
ALL? Er, no. Not to be mean to kilts; I’m just not an always/never kind of girl.

  42. Bethany C. says:

Hi, I was wondering if the name has any special significance, or did you just like it?

    • Which name, Bethany? Serafina? I really just liked the sound of it, especially paired with the much more down to earth MacBride :) . And it contrasts so nicely with Sera’s tough personality!

      Marie

  43. Joani S says:

Hi there!! I bought the book, it sounds great!! Looking forward to getting to it. I have never met a psychic, but I do believe there are people with that talent out there. I read the cards for myself, to get answers to questions, and most of the time they really help me make some decisions. I would like to go to a psychic someday.

    • Hi Joani! Thanks for buying the book :) .

Interesting that you read the cards. Do you find some supernatural element in your reading, or do they just make you think of things in a different way, so that you get a better perspective that helps you make good decisions?

I have two friends who read tarot – the first uses her own knowledge of whoever she’s reading for to explain the cards and extrapolate; the second feels some power in them and is exhausted by every reading she gives.

      Marie

      • Joani S says:

I believe there is something about reading the cards that has a touch of the PN about them, but they do help me focus and sometimes when I want to go one way and cards tell me not to, I follow the cards and they haven’t steered me wrong yet.

  44. Joani S says:

I’ve never seen an actual apparition, I get feelings sometimes, like being watched at different times. I’ve had some dreams that leave me a mess, and they are never nice dreams, one was a train wreck, and one time was an accident in a mall with the escalator failing, and I have them over and over sometimes. I don’t know if they’ve ever come true, but the feeling of them when I have them, I actually wake crying, and things seem so real that when I wake I feel I’ve lived them. Maybe thats just my crazy conscience trying to tell me something totally different, who knows. I did have my aura read once where they take a picture and it shows the colors surrounding you, and the color around me was redish orange, with streaks of yellow. WHen I read what those colors stood for it was totally me at the time. Very interesting!!

  45. Joani S says:

As for the kilts thing, I do like me a man in a kilt! My husband wears them often, so I’m sort of biased, but no, not all stories have to feature them. The Ren faire here is having a scottish weekend coming up so I’ll get my fill of men in kilts!! Ohh yes!! :)

  46. Joani S says:

Sooo, I was wondering…at that same faire, they have competions, like best legs in a kilt contest. One year an OLLLLLLLD man was on stage, and when it was his turn to walk a line and do a twirl to flare the kilt up to show off his legs, he proved to the audience that he was without a doubt NOT wearing underwear. HAve you ever had the misfortune to find out what an old man was or wasn’t wearing?

    • LOL, no I haven’t, Joani. Or even a young man to be honest :) . The closest I came was at my wedding, when our best man was wearing a kilt, and my English friends, once they’d had a few glasses, made a concerted effort to see what he was wearing underneath – poor man was horribly embarrassed :) .

      Marie

  47. June says:

Have you ever met a psychic who convinced you they were genuine?
I have actually never been to a psychic. I am not sure if I would believe in them or not. I do think that some people are definitely better at perception and reading people than most but I am not sure that I believe that there are psychics in the world. Now, if one were to give me the lotto numbers and I win, I would be a total believer (and share!).

  48. bn100 says:

    Never met a psychic.

  49. June says:

Have you ever had any psychic or ghostly experiences that either freaked or moved you?

I would have to go with a “kind-of” answer here. When my nephew (now 11) was like 2 or 3, he would often “see” people that no one else could see. One time, my sister, her kids, and I were watching TV, RyRy kept looking into the dining room, holding his little toy ball close to his chest, and shook his head NO. We asked him what he was doing and he said that “that man” wanted to play with his ball, but he did not want him to. This was just one of the many times that he “saw” something no one else could. I never could find a legitimate reason for these things, considering his very young age.

    • Yes, children of that age often seem to have that kind of experience. As adults, we tend to put it down to imagination, but the “imaginary friend” theory doesn’t always work, does it?

I do remember being slightly freaked by my kids when they were babies having their nappies changed at night time and staring, even smiling, into odd corners of the room where there was really nothing to see – not for me, anyway!

      Marie

  50. bn100 says:

    No psychic or ghostly experiences.

  51. bn100 says:

All stories set in Scotland shouldn’t feature kilts.

  52. bn100 says:

How are you planning on celebrating the new book?

    • Well, I had a glass of wine last night and hung out with you guys – still hanging, still celebrating, although I’ve swapped the wine for coffee this morning :) . Expect I’ll be doing a bit more of the same for a while – which is fun!

      Marie

  53. bn100 says:

What’s your favorite cover of your own book?

    • Ooh good question! Although I’m not sure I can make up my mind! I do like Serafina’s cover… but I think my all time favourite would have to be a tie between Gothic Dragon (Samhain) and Blood on Silk (NAL).

      Marie

  54. bn100 says:

    What’s your favorite book?

    • Yikes, another difficult question! I think “King Hereafter” by Dorothy Dunnett – a historical novel about Macbeth. Beautifully told, exciting, romantic and wonderfully moving. I wish I could write half so well!

      Marie

  55. Mariee says:

    Great post!

    1. I’ve never met a physic. Would be fun to try once though!
    2. No ghostly or physic experience for me.
    3. I don’t think all stories set in Scotland absolutely have to feature kilts, but it’s always a plus :)

  56. Julie T says:

My friend Sasha is psychic, very genuine! Not what one pictures from movies, but she’s got strong connections to the spirit world. Interesting things always happen around her. I’ve met other people who are psychic who struck me as genuine, too. I’ve had a few moments myself, but I wouldn’t really call myself psychic. Just sometimes more aware and attuned than most of the time. :)

  57. Stacey A Smith says:

I have had a Ghost Experiences that has moved me.a few time in my life so I have every belief that ghost are around us all the time.

  58. Stacey A Smith says:

I think all books in a Scottish team should have sexy guys in Kilts and nothing under them!LOL

  59. Donna S says:

Congrats on the new release! Thanks for sharing today.

  60. Donna S says:

Have you ever met a psychic who convinced you they were genuine?
    - I have not.

  61. Donna S says:

Have you ever had any psychic or ghostly experiences that either freaked or moved you?
    - I have had a couple of odd experiences that completely freaked me out. In one of them I know my cat saw something I didnt too.

  62. Donna S says:

Should all stories set in Scotland feature kilts?
-Yes, the more authentic the better…

    • :) . Unfortunately, perhaps, in real life people don’t actually wear them all the time. High days and/or holidays usually. Or even never in many cases! Nice thought though!

      Marie

  63. Dovile P. says:

I’ve never met a psychic that had me convinced, as first of all, I’m not convinced it’s even possible to really see the future or whatever it is psychics do.

  64. Dovile P. says:

No, I haven’t had any supernatural experiences. I’m not sure they are actually possible or is it just over-active imagination.

  65. Dovile P. says:

Kilt – yes, if the stories take place in the past. A kilt in a nowaday setting would feel weird, unless the guy would be at a football game:)

    • LOL – yes all the tartan and caricature dress gets trotted out for football games :) . But men do still wear them at other times, eg weddings and formal occasions, if they play in pipe bands etc, so it wouldn’t necessarily be daft to have to have someone in a kilt in modern times – depending on what he’s doing, of course :) .

      Marie

  66. Dovile P. says:

What is your favorite childhood book/series?

  67. Dovile P. says:

Have you ever written fan fiction? For what series?

    • No, I’m afraid I’ve never written fan fiction. Unless you count when I was little more than a kid and I used to write stuff based on tv shows because the characters inspired me – but I never let anyone else read them; it was just something I needed to get out of my system.

Nowadays I think I prefer to have complete control over all aspects of my characters past, present and future, without having to consider what others have written about them. I think I’m not disciplined enough

      Marie

  68. Rae M. says:

Hmm, I’m not sure if I missed the party or not. I always get confused with the times in different parts of the world. I think it’s around 2:00pm? Maybe? But late or not, I finally made it!

Have you ever met a psychic who convinced you they were genuine?

I’ve never met one who convinced me. But I do have a very open mind. I think there are people out there, but they’re proabably not the ones at the carnival or who say they are psychic to everyone they meet. Although after seeing your story maybe they are!

Have you ever had any psychic or ghostly experiences that either freaked or moved you?

Well, I don’t remember any of this. But my mother and sister told me that it happened. I was in the hospital when I was about 8-years-old. I apparently woke up and said that my grandmother and cousin, who had died, were standing in the room. I guess I freaked them out, because I was clearly looking at someone doing things in the room that they couldn’t see. Like I said, I don’t remember this, but my mother and sister said they believed it.

Should all stories set in Scotland feature kilts?
I mean I get that presently most men in Scotand don’t go around in kilts, save for special occasions. But for my reading pleasure, it certainly doesn’t hurt!:)

    • Glad you made it Rae :) . I’m a a bit late myself – had a bit of bother with internet connection, so catching up later than I meant to!

Thanks for your entertaining answers and your eerie “memory”!

      Marie

  69. Rae M. says:

Do you have extra information about the characters in your head that never makes it into the books? And have you ever thought of putting that info into short stories? (Say yes:))

    Thanks!

  70. Maria D. says:

I have never met a psychic at all

  71. Maria D. says:

I have never had a psychic or ghostly experience that frightened me.

I definitely think all heroes in books set in Scotland or with Scottish heroes need to wear kilts!

  72. Maria D. says:

Congratulations on your new release Marie! I’m so glad to see you continuing to write your vampire stories!

  73. Robin Blankenship says:

After my husband’s stroke I really felt like my Grandmother was with me and she died 12 years ago. It was comforting

  74. Kimberley Coover says:

I have never met a psychic, but I do believe that there are people with that talent

  75. June says:

Should all stories set in Scotland feature kilts?
While it is not a necessity, Kilts are sexy on a hot man :)

  76. Angela Perry says:

Hmm, I don’t think everyone should wear kilts just because it is Scotland, but love a special scene written in where there is a reason for the kilts to be worn.

  77. Donna S says:

Finished it and loved it. Great book looking forward to the next.
