Author Marie Treanor Release Party and $100.00 Amazon Gift Card Contest

Posted by Site Hostess Tuesday October 4, 2011

Blood Eternal: An Awakened by Blood Novelby Marie Treanor

PLEASE NOTE: The contest portion of the Marie Treanor event is now closed and the winner will be chosen at a later date and contacted via email.

How can it end?

The Ancient vampire Saloman has been awakened by the blood of academic Elizabeth Silk. They’ve tried and failed to kill each other. And they’ve fallen in love. Whatever that actually means to an inhuman, immortal blood-drinker who’s existed for millennia.

Now, it’s decision time.

Will Elizabeth become Saloman’s true enemy or his eternal love? Will either of them survive the apocalyptic chaos inspired by Saloman’s newly awakened cousin Luk? As vampires begin to emerge from the shadows, and the world changes forever, will Elizabeth finally succumb to the ultimate temptation? Or will she chose the path of the hunters that prophecy and destiny have marked for her?

Yes, it’s release day for Blood Eternal, finale of the AWAKENED BY BLOOD trilogy, and all will be revealed. I have to say, it was ultimately satisfying to bring all the threads of this story together and find the right ending for Elizabeth and Saloman. I’m celebrating today’s release with champagne – virtual and otherwise! – although I confess there’s a grain of sadness underneath, because this IS the end of the tale, and it’s hard to finally leave these characters who’ve become almost part of my family over the last two years…

So here’s a toast: to good endings and new beginnings! Cheers! Grab your virtual glass and celebrate with me! And I’d love to know which you look forward to with most impatience: the finale of a much loved book or series, or a brand new book or series from a much loved author?

Also, coming back to Elizabeth and Saloman, many of their friends believe there relationship is doomed. What do you think might doom a human-paranormal relationship? Is love enough?

  1. Hello! Wonderful to be back at Biten by Books, celebrating my new release! Grab a glass and settle in to the party! Hope you’re having a great day. I certainly am – ignoring the wind and the rain and concentrating on the thrill :)

As a lover of series, I tend to collect them all or at least 3 or 4 and read them back to back, so Woohoo! for trilogies as I know how long I’m going to be in agony waiting. I always live in the hope that the author will simply do another 3 book arc that takes place in this awesome world–hint! hint!

“What do you think might doom a human-paranormal relationship? Is love enough?” I don’t think it’s any more likely to be doomed than a human-human or paranormal-paranormal relationship is. There has to be more than love. They got to be each other’s best friend, they have to have trust in each other & themselves and they must be able to laugh together. With those three key ingredients, they’ve got a hell of a shot at a long lasing relationship.
Following your Bewitching Book Tour but just in case I don’t win a copy of “Blood Eternal” I’m ordering one now. Then if I win one I can share it rather than my copy.
So question #1– Will there be more to this “trilogy”?

    • Hi Lisa! Great to see you here!

I can’t quarrel with your answer! Trust is the biggest issue between Saloman and Elizabeth in BLOOD ETERNAL…

Thanks for ordering the book, Lisa!

Will there be any more in the series? I’ve got immediate plans for them – I got distracted into other projects! – but my mind is still moving forward with stories in this world, so I may well write them one day!

+1 Tell us a little bit about your characters. Which was the hardest to write and which was the most fun?
    total=533

    • Lisa, I don’t know that any of my characters were hard to write! Saloman sort of arrived in my head fully formed more or less and Elizabeth grew largely out of his needs :) . I suppose, apart from Saloman’s black humour and inhumanity. the most fun were the characters who grew unexpectedly, like Dmitriu and Maximilian. And I would wuite like to wrote their stories one day :) .

      Marie

+1 Describe a typical day of writing? Are you a planner or pantser?
    total=534

    • A typical day is, I wake up about 6 or 6.30 and wrote until 7.30, when I get up and shout at the kids to get them off to school. When I’ve taken my daughter to school, I come home and write solidly until 3 o’clcok, pausing only to make coffee and a sandwich. Then I fetch my daughter from school, occasionally sneak back for the odd half hours writing, but the house is usually too noisy by the time the boys come home too!

I used to be more of a pantster, but with this trilogy I had to give detailed proposals to my publisher, so I’m learning to be mroe of a plotter :)

Hungary and Romania because of Awakenend by Blood and it’s been years since I’ve been to those countries! USA because I’ve never been there and I did actually set part of BLOOD SIN there – better late than never :) . And Turkey, just because I love it.

Big cheers Marie! I’ll admit I hate when a series seems like it shall never end. There’s something both sad and yet deliciously satisfying about a finale.

“which you look forward to with most impatience: the finale of a much loved book or series, or a brand new book or series from a much loved author?”

Hmmm, that’s a tough question. If I’m honest it’s usually the finale. Not that I don’t love when authors start new stuff but I often chomp the bit waiting to see what the big climax will be. :)

“What do you think might doom a human-paranormal relationship? Is love enough?”

Seems to me like it usually comes down to the immortality issue. The human usually has to choose eternity with their true love at the detriment of something else. I’m a total non-believer in HEA’s so love is never enough IMHO. lol

What’s next for you? A new series altogether or a spin-off of this one?

Actually, I’d probably agree with you – by the finale you’ve invested more, and the anticpation is more intense!

How unsual to meet a cynic in the romance world :) . I suppose it’s never all wine and roses, or the Cindereall-type HEA in real life, but I still beleive happiness is possible! I take your point about the mortal making the change – but I suppose it comes down to what’s possible in the make-believe world…

      Nice to talk to you!

      Marie

      • Rhianna says:

        That’s definitely true!

Isn’t it bad of me? I get teased all the time for being a romance reader who hates HEAs but (and I wrote a little about it this past Friday for my blog since I just had my 12th wedding anniversary) I think it’s because I’m a realist in the worst way. I wrote something along the lines of how IRL the statement “and they lived happily ever after. The End.” just doesn’t make sense. It’s more like “and they lived miserably a lot of the time but they were together and in love and kept working hard to make it forever.”

I grew up with a parent (well, both the more I think about it) who spent most of my childhood jumping from relationship to relationship in search of happiness and never finding it. It took me a miserable few years of marriage to realize you can’t place those expectations on someone else. If you’re happy as individuals you can bring that to the relationship and share it and it works so much better. Especially when you’re broke and all you have is one another. lol ;)

And just because it popped into my head… one more question…

I loved the similar feel of the Blood on Silk and Blood Sin covers. Why on earth did the art department go so different for Blood Eternal? I have to admit until this event I didn’t even realize it was the same series… I thought it was going to be something new. lol Whoops.

Guess that puts me at 607 points now. ;)

    • Thanks Rhianna, I was wondering that too.

    • Good question, Rhianna! In fact, a few people have asked me the same thing. Apparently, it’s because they decided to make BLOOD ETERNAL a mass market paperback rather than a trade edition, and the feeling was that the style of the original covers wouldn’t work in this format. It’s a shame in many ways, but at least it’s still a nice cover :) .

Hi, Marie! I’m so happy for you that you’ve reached the exciting conclusion of events for this couple – I can’t wait read their ending (a little sad too) – but you already knew that. This has been an excellent read providing everything we vampire lovers want in our paranormal romances. So, thank you for the exciting journey.

Where did the original idea come from and what types of research was involved to bring Saloman to life?

    Blessings ~ K.

    • Hi K! Thanks for coming today! And for the kind words too! So glad you’re enjoying the series…

The original idea grew out of a scene in my head of a beautiful male statue rising to life amid the dust of centures and advancing upon a terrified but feisty woman. I didn’t do a huge amount of new research for Saloman, since I’m a bit of a historian myself and EAstern Europe has always been a special interest of mine!

To be honest, in Scotland, there isn’t a huge difference between summer and winter as a rule :) . The weather doesn’t really affect when or how much I write, just the story in my head at the time.

I have tried occasionally to write outside, but I can’t really see the computer screen properly, so I give up :) . I’d write anywhere – especially the places I mentioned earlier to Lisa – Orkney, Russia, Hungary, Romania, America, Turkey…

Hmmm, hard to say when I don’t know what would intrigue you :) . I’m told the Awakened by Blood books are a fresh take on the vampire theme, a mixture of classic gothic vamps and modern steamy romance. Congrats Marie on the release of Eternal Hunger. I have this series on my TRL. This way I can read them back to back. :) #1–I look forward to any new series by a favorite Author but the finale is what makes me most impatient. And sad :) I think one series that I became so emotionally invested in is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I’m actually hesitant for that ending for fear it will also be the demise of Jamie Fraser. Silly but true. :(
#2–I think if two people whether the are normal/paranormal or two humans etc have friendship, trust and consideration for each other the odds are pretty good they’ll have a great life together. =2

Thanks for your answers, which make pretty good sense to me! And I agree it really depends on the books/series concerned.

Immortality is a good point – when it only applies to one of a couple…

I’d love to see it on the big screen! Or even the small screen :) . Not sure who I’d have playing the part of Salaoman, though… It would have to be someone with huge presence as well as good looks. I’ll think about it and come bck to you! In the eman time, I’m open to suggestions :)

I never look forward to the end of a series. If it was a fun read, I always wish that it would go on forever, so I would have to say that I impatiently await the release of a brand new book or series from a much loved author.

I’m not sure if the love is strong & the couple has real respect for each other that anything would doom a human/paranormal relationship, but it would be really hard on both parties to know that the human partner’s life is much more fragile & their time together is finite.

    • Hi Kathryn,

Interesting answer! I can see your points…

Yes, years ago at one of my publishers, when there was more inter-action between the author and the cover artist, I did object to a light fluffy cover featuring a happy couple in bed, for a rather dark book of mine about an assassin who kept dying :) . We got there in the end, though.

With the Awakened by Blood books, I had no contact with the cover artist, although I could express my own vision and my own thoughts through my editor. Which is why the Budapest chain bridge is on the cover of BLOOD ETERNAL :)

Thank you! It’s more adult than Twilight, but I imagine there may be a few similar themes. And yes, it should be available in bookstores now, although being in the UK where it isn’t available, I can’t swear to that! I know it’s on Amazon etc already. Thanks for asking!

    2) (+03) – Hi! :)

    a) Oh boy, first book or last book… well, off hand, I would have to say the last book of a series, given that a lot of the time, authors seem to save the most interesting character of the group for last… darn it… LOL

    b) Humans and paranormal type individuals… well, I dare say that if they weren’t just fiction, that in the books love would be enough, but for the real thing, it wouldn’t. There are plenty of obstacles, depending on the type of being it is, of course. But that’s the good thing about stories, they can be wrapped up at the end so that way everything can work out.

Q1) So how about a variation of that – as an author, which do you like more, writing the last book of a series, or the first book?

    • Hi Lois,

      I can see that you;re a realist :)

Rats, you’ve turned my own question on me! And I don’t really know the answer! Writing the first book is fun because you get to build up the world, and learn about the characters, but there is something very satisfying about tying up the whole story… plus the last one tends to flow quicker just because I’m so familiar with the characters by then. Although there is a bit of reluctance to end the fun!

I really look forward to the finale of a series just so I can finally KNOW what happens, but it also makes me sad, I feel like I’m loosing friends sometimes when I have years invested in the books. (I second that about the world of time series by Jordan) I really like it when a writer might come out with a new book but based on that “world” and I get a few snippets about my beloved characters in the sidelines.

I think a human/para relationship might be doomed by the humans mortality. I also agree that sometimes it seems the human has more changing to do in those relationships than the paranormal. But I also believe that love does conquer all. I have this series in my wish list at amazon and will def be checking it out!!

Audiobooks? They seem a great idea to me, providing the narrator has the right kind of voice for the story, but I confess I’ve never actually “read” any. I’ve been thinking about it though – a much more interesting way to get through housework maybe :) . Although knowing me, I’d stop and just listen to the story!

The only trouble with just not doing it is that when you’re finally driven to it for the sake of hygiene, it’s so much harder than if you’d just done some earlier. My favoured solution is to pay someoen else to do it, but I’ve never never quite been able to afford that so far!

    • Interesting question, Mary! It’s happened to me both ways. I have written a book as a stand alone, and then not been able to get it out of my head and gone on to write sequels – that became the City of the Damned trilogy.

Awakened by Blood was always meaant to be a trilogy, though. Such a relationship needed time, and events to mature and resolve :) .

      Marie

  40. Na S. says:

    Hi Marie,
With a finale already available it looks like I’m going to need to get started on your trilogy! I really enjoy vampire stories and am looking forward to meeting Saloman and Elizabeth. I get really excited over endings. I like to see things resolved and see what finally happens to these characters I have grown to care about. It’s always bittersweet as some series are years in the making and others within a year, but I do like the “finally” aspect of it. It’s odd but when I come across a final book, I tend to not rush and read it. I like to savor it and prolong the end.

I think a lot of things might doom a human-paranormal relationship and it’s the same for any relationships. The inability to see eye to eye, to understand, to communicate and be able to overlook faults and accept things.

Love can be enough if it’s in addition to other things: trust, acceptance, compassion and understanding of one another. If you can’t communicate and express your feelings, then that love can get lost.

Did you find it harder to create the world or the characters?

    +1
    Total = 633

    • I think the world was harder. The basics of the characters just formed in my head and grew as I wrote. To a certain extent their world grew out of them, but the knottier issues had to be worked out – like exactly how they survive, how they could die forever, and how vampires came to be in the first place – the whole mythology, really, which has to be consistent.

  42. Na S. says:

What do you spend the most time on: beginning, middle or end?

    +1

    • Yes, it probably is! I love good dramas, especially with fantasy and paranormal elements, a bit of sci-fi…. My television tends to be escapism, so I don’t really watch shows like the X-Factor (rather watch the X-Files!). My daughter’s addicted to them, though – I think she imagines herself up there wowing the judges :) .

+1 I’d rather start a new series by one of my favorite authors. The ending of a series is exciting but also sad because if I’ve fallen in love with the characters, I want to keep reading about them. It feels like a goodbye. But a new series is exciting because you get to discover new characters and new stories.

+1 I think there are lots of reasons why a relationship might be doomed, whether it’s a paranormal one or not. But a paranormal reason would be that usually the human has a lot mor changing and accepting to do than the paranormal part of the relationship, so it might be hard for them to adjust.

    Hi,

I always prefer and look forward to the start of new series, because ending of a series is always sad.

There are a lot of things that might doom a human-para relationship, human mortality being one of the most serious, also the chance of children in such a union if one of the parties wants them. I’d say the more the paranormal being in such relationship is distant from humans, the less chance the relationship has to survive. Of course, love may conquer all, but not without some sacrifices.

I’d like to ask what is your favorite children book?

    • Hi Jackie!

      Thank you!

Though I don’t have any immediate plans, I would like to do an off-shoot series one day. At the moment, I’m working on soemthing fresh – more vampires, but very different!

Hi Marie!!! I didn’t realize the series was going to be a trilogy. I have Blood on Silk in my TBR pile. Now, I can just read straight through start to finish. I love beginning a new series – learning about new worlds – diving into the lives of new people. I do hate to see a favorite series end, so sometimes the endings are harder to accept.

    What’s next for you?

  51. Michelle T says:

I’m in the US Hi Marie. Have paranormals always been your draw or was there another genre you preferred before writing paranormals?

    • Hi Michelle!

Yes, since I started to write romance, it’s been mainly paranromal that drew me. Although my third book was a science fiction romance without any paranormal at all :) . Before paranormal romance, I wrote historical novels. And when I was a kid I wanted to write thrillers and adventure stories :) .

Do you have the ending all planned out when you start a story, or do you work towards it?

    http://twitter.com/#!/Escere/status/121642354359812096

I think the problem with a paranormal-human relationship is the same with any relationship that are parts of different cultures. Both lovers have to be prepared that people outside their relationship won’t approve, and they’ll have to adjust to the other person. Love isn’t going to fix everything and they’ll have to work at it.

  53. Hi Escere,

To be honest, sometimes my ending is a bit vague, and just forms as I get there! In this case, I had an idea of what I wanted to happen at the end, but by the time that I got there, it didn’t work quite as I’d imagined it would! So I had to make a few changes to better suit the characters as they’d grown with the story. But I think it works better!

What do you think might doom a human-paranormal relationship? Is love enough?

I wish I could say love is enough but it’s really not…love and trust together are the key components of any relationship …so what would doom a relationship paranormal or otherwise would be infidelity…

    • Hi Maria!

Yes infidelity is a huge one to get over. And I imagine it dooms many relationships! But I do know people who’ve somehow got over it and still been happy together. I suppose it must depend on the couple concenrned and the circumstances…

Forgot to answer one question: I like to start new series by a beloved author.

    Question for Marie:

YA books seem to be all the rage right now…have you ever considered writing a YA book? Why or why not?

    • Thanks, Maria! Yes, I’ve noticed that, but so far I’ve never been tempted along the YA route. Possibly because I’m interested now in more adult themes. I have teenage boys of my own, so I don’t think I’ve lost touch with “youth”, but when it comes to writing, it’s too personal to think myself backward to that time of my life.

When I was a teenager, though, I’d have loved the amazing choice of books written now for that age group!

    Good questions.
    1) Probably the finale of a series, because sometimes even though I love an author’s particular series, it’s that series & characters I love, and I’m unsure whether a new series will make me feel the same way!
    2) If it’s true love, it should be enough. Always. But, yeah, human/paranormal–tough call. Too many deeply ingrained biases could doom that, any problems with one living forever and the other not (and maybe not wanting to), too much pressure from either family…the usual stuff we mere mortals face, lol.
