Lauri J. Owen continues her Embers series with Blowing Embers, a wonderful, fast-paced sequel to Fallen Embers.
Fire-mage Kiera is now the governor of the alternate Fairbanks and married to bear-shifter, Laszlo. However, all is not well. There is unrest within Fairbanks between the mages and the newly-freed shifters. To make matters worse, surrounding deconns want to wage war on Fairbanks. Kiera is doing all she can to keep the peace and strengthen her abilities, but terrible headaches are holding her back. When Laszlo is taken by the enemy, everyone presumes him dead. But Kiera will not give up home and will do everything in her ability and beyond to have her revenge.
Owen has hit her stride with this second novel. Fallen Embers seemed a little disjointed, almost like two books in one. Blowing Embers has a much stronger storyline and the pacing is very succinct. The characters also have a chance to be formed more, including new characters. The ending is a rush and leaves the reader wanting to find out the final chapter of Kiera’s saga.
Blowing Embers is a wonderful installment in the Embers series. I am eager to see how Lauri J. Owen ends Kiera’s story.
