Lucia has been conditioned to be compassionate. Her deceased mother’s favorite pastime was returning sick and injured wolves to health. So, is it any surprise when she puts herself between her father’s gun and a wolf on their property?
I really enjoyed Lucia’s character. She has this innocent side to her, but she is not so innocent as to be completely naïve, either. This gives her a bit of country charm while still remaining believable, too. Her readiness to accept Zalin’s secret shows both fearlessness and a willing to face the unknown.
Zalin is a torn wolf. He wants to do what i’s right, but is stopped by what needs to be done, also. Not wanting to fight his alpha, he figures it is best to just pull up stakes and head somewhere else. But his alpha is slowly losing his hold on sanity, so he knows he cannot just take off, either. Once he meets Lucia, he knows he has to stay – for her. He tells himself it is to keep her safe, but in truth, he is falling for her. Zalin’s alpha-like nature is a natural balance to Lucia’s more inexperienced, sometimes insecure personality.
Howl is a fun and sexy romp taking you through both difficult times and good ones, too. Sprinkled with deception, betrayal, action galore and the flutterings of a first love, be prepared for quite a rollercoaster ride to the end. With a little something to entertain everyone, Howl is a delightful, fast read for any lover of the sexy, shifter variety.

Good to hear Lucia is a character who can balance both compassion and courage–so often, I see a heroine who is too slanted toward one side of that dynamic, completely forsaking the other, which makes her both unlikeable and unrelatable. And yay for werewolf alphas!
