****½

Shifter Kissa Alassane is coming into her first heat, her inner lion demanding to have its lusts sated, something she is more than willing to do. Too bad her lion wants Vernor Brun. Vernor has broken Kissa’s heart, and though he is the one her heart and lion demand to mate with, she decides with her mind to choose another. When her choice is removed and Vernor appears in his place, she decides that one time can’t hurt—at least she’ll get to enjoy him once before she decides to leave the pride.

Vernor can’t understand why Kissa, whom he has spent months wooing, is determined to have nothing to do with him. When Kissa runs off, Vernor discovers the real reason and must chase after her to explain the truth as well as protect her from other males who scent her heat cycle.

This is a great story and a unique take on the shifter. Set in present day in current surroundings that are easily visualized, I found myself luxuriating in the differences between the shifter compound and the human setting where the shifters co-exist . A fun read, I would definitely recommend this story to anyone interested in shifter stories.

There is a great potential for more stories to come from this world. I look forward to seeing what Jocelyn offers in the future.
