Demonic Persuasion by Mahalia Levey

****½

“Born of a Navajo healer and a high-level prince of Hell, The Dine Gods demanded Fatal be turned over to her mother’s tribe to learn their healing arts and kept away from demon hands.” And so began the life of a child who fit in neither the demon world nor the human world. Carrying the gift of healing and trained it in arts, she also carried demon traits and strengths—a constant conflict for a child and source of fear for those around her. It was lonely and painful existence growing up among people who never accepted or loved her.

Upon reach adulthood, she is banished from the Navajo reservation. Running from and fighting the demons set on her trail by her father, she enters a nightclub, Demonic Persuasion, for a moment of respite. But the music and atmosphere encourage her to let loose her sensual demon nature, leading to a sizzling encounter with Orobus, owner of the club, a lower-level Prince of Hell and her mate (although neither know it at the time). Overwhelmed with emotions and confusion, Fatal runs. Orobus must find her to save her from herself, help her reconcile both sides of her nature, and teach her that demons CAN love.

Wow—this is a whole lot of book jammed into 75 short pages. The world-crafting is meticulous and the characters (and there are many) have depth and complexity. The story has elements of pathos, betrayal, redemption, hope, love and an unlikely family unit torn apart by love and healed by love. The sensual scenes are absolutely electrifying. Demon sex is raw, unapologetic and energetic, and when love enters, there is an aching tenderness. The end of the book sets up the sequel beautifully.

A short fast read. I hope the next book is longer. TBR list is so long but this book is a must.
