His unexpected vacation in Malaysia takes him from New York City to the rainforest where he easily could become something’s dinner. Eric never expected to be drawn to the wild woman of the forest, but he is. Reena Jacobs has the beginning of an exciting new series named The Striped Ones. This first book Shadow Cat is an engaging story that sweeps the readers away on a wild ride. Your imagination is bombarded with wild and complex people dealing with situations you can relate to and others that are out of this world. Reena draws you into the world she is writing about until you actually feel you are there with the characters. You sympathize with Berani as she deals with feelings of her home and her heart. This is an author whose style uses imagery that allows the reader to feel what the characters are feeling bringing you into the world of wehr-tigers. Reena has a good way of fleshing out the characters so that it is easy to get a sense of how they relate to the story. The reader goes along with Eric as he struggles to deal with his changing world. The first book in a series has a tough job of arousing your curiosity to the point that you want to find out more, and Shadow Cat delivers.
Berani and Eric’s beginning starts typical then takes a jump into a fantasy neither expected. They are drawn to each other but still have to deal with situations and complications outside their understanding. You will laugh as the various characters work to understand each other as they compensate for the language barrier. The strength of Berani and Eric’s bond allows them to stumble on through problems that only they can solve. As they become more aligned with one another, the struggles became stronger demanding that they cling to what they feel for each other to get through it or parish trying. As a reader, you will enjoy the ups and downs they have to contend with as they get to know one another. Berani and Eric’s story is a perfect one to start what looks like will be a very wonderful series. I look forward to the next installment.
