When last we heard from our ever-verbose host of Off the Fang, she was ranting and raving about kick-ass series that died too young. This week, she’s decided to step it up a notch and do something about the situation.
Clearly, she is insane, for not only is she NOT rich, but she’s referring to herself in the third person. May the orderlies at the insane asylum be well-muscled and surly…
Okay, kids. Listen up. It’s time to take advantage of my insanity before the aforementioned yummy men in white take me away. Hey, I’ve seen Sucker Punch. I know what goes on in there! ::gulp:: I’m done with sitting back and watching fabulous authors get treated this way. When Mark Henry first announced the end of the Amanda Feral series, I stood up and helped. Why am I not doing something now that there’s not just one, but THREE authors in a similar situation?
Let’s review: In “Only the Good Die Young,” I mentioned Lynn Viehl, Mark Henry, and Sharon Ashwood. Lynn Viehl is safe. She’s an established author with no worries of publishing a new book/series/genre. The woman is untouchable. Mark’s situation is, unfortunately, a thing of the past. But Sharon — her plight is rather new, as is that of both Sonya Bateman and Carolyn Crane.
That’s right, people. Not only is Sharon’s series ending, but so are Sonya’s and Carolyn’s (Carolyn’s might continue in the e-world, but I’m not going to speak for her). That’s three of the most amazing, inventive, and captivating series I’ve read in a very long time. To quote a small, cartoon child: WHAT THE DEUCE??
Enough is enough. This is what we’re going to do: I’m giving away sets of each of these series, excluding the book you purchased unless you just really want two copies. Nope my indy doesn’t work that way. I go in order, they call as the books come in, I pay on delivery. I love it so much faster than amazon and I don’t have to hunt my books down around Nashville.

Dammit! I love both Carolyn Crane and Sonya Bateman! How can their series not continue? The crappy big name authors can keep on keepin’ on and people (not me) continue to buy them. A new fabulous author comes out and they get shut down?
I saw Carolyn’s post above that Disillusionist series will continue. I hope it’s the same for Sonya.

You’re preaching to the choir, sister. I’m sure this comment will come back to bite me in the ass at some point (I do have a lot of ass to bite, so maybe I’ll be okay), but it’s sad that a series that is basically one woman screwing the world can go on and on and on and on and oh look there’s a new species she can sully with her dirtiness and on and on but three talented writers with strong plots, vivid characters, and an emotional backdrop that gets under your skin are cut for low sales.

I haven’t read any of these, but if you rec them, I’ll check ‘em out.
Any of them would be a good match for you. Sonya is grittier with a healthy dose of humor, lots of torture, and Bruce Campbell references; Carolyn is sexy, dysfunctional, and packs one hell of an emotional punch; Sharon reads a lot like the early IAD series and is just as good – different narrators, same world, complex worldbuilding that acts like a secondary character to the story.
I haven’t read any of them !!! and now they’re gonna end soon ?

hi, we here in South Africa have to buy the books through one of our book sites and have to wait until they can get the books for us. I have read all three Sharon’s books and have the last one on order. I bought these books quite some time ago and enjoyed the so much. I don’t know if I’m untouchable, Jackie, but I can tell you why I’m still a working writer: my readers are like you. They get out there and make their friends read my books and tell other people about them and never give up on me. They’ve been so supportive that they’ve kept my books in print for years longer than they should have stayed in print. It’s that kind of thing that helps an author to revive a series; I’ve been able to do it for two of mine that my publishers actually killed.
Bottom line: never doubt the power of loyal readers. They can do the impossible.
