Joyce is a young, upwardly mobile college student in the 1980’s. She stands firm in her republican beliefs and is a staunch supporter of women’s rights. She does not need a man to help her make her way in the world.

Joyce has plans to be an investment banker on Wall Street and nothing is going to stand in her way. What she did not expect was that she and her friends would be transported into another dimension through a portal that will bring them one step closer in finding their missing college friend, Stephanie, whom they fear is trapped in this strange medieval world.

In this world dominated by men, they will encounter monsters, sorcerers, and witches, as well as a King named Chip and his brother Biff. To save Stephanie and themselves they will have to outwit the King’s brutal and deranged advisor, Malsorcier.

Join Joyce, J.B., Hacker and Raven on the adventure of a lifetime.

This is a well written book from an author with a unique and humorous voice. I look forward to reading more from Nicole Chardenet in the future.

There is an ease to the author’s writing that makes you forget you are reading a book. You will be completely transported into another reality where nothing is as it appears. She has created memorable characters. Every one has a unique and distinct personality and voice which makes them completely believable and easy to relate to.

If you were a child of the eighties you will love the many references to eighties culture. We get the Reagan White House, totally awesome slang, big hair and shoulder pads. The dialogue is perfect. It is quirky and peppered with radical 80’s slang.

Aside from a few predictable plot lines this was a fun book to read and if you are a fan of “sword and sorcery” novels, time travel and kick ass fun you should give this book a try.

Book Synopsis:

It’s 1984 and the future looks bright for college student Joyce Bacyrus, rah-rah Reaganite and card-carrying Young Republican. She dreams of a high-powered Wall Street Yuppie career until her computer geek friend Hacker boinks it all up by opening a portal to another world in his dorm bathroom and dragging Joyce and their friends into it on a search for Stephanie, his missing lab partner and hopeful future squeeze. When Hacker loses the floppy disk that anchors the open portal, they must find it along with Stephanie, a task now on deadline as she’s slated to marry the world’s most disgusting prince. Threatening to boink things up further are a feminazi witch, a race of Conan-style barbarians (but only half as smart), incredibly hot naked undines and the prince’s sidekick, heavy-metal troubadour and evil magician Malsorcier. While pondering the deeper questions of friendship, loyalty and the suspiciously modern elements in Chassadril, Joyce also wonders, Am I gonna miss my Macroeconomics exam?
