Dark Hunger by Sara Reinke
In trying to protecting her twin brother Brandon, Tessa Noble-Davenant must travel across the country with a very sarcastic and moody passenger, Rene Morin. Dark forces are threatening not only Brandon’s life but Tessa’s unborn child’s life, as well. She knows she must set aside her primal attraction for Rene, because succumbing to their desires may give the ominous forces tracking them an opportunity to attack.
Sara has done it again. Dark Hunger, the Second Book in the Brethren Series, is an enthralling follow-up to the first. The author has kept true to her strong heroine and her impaired hero storyline.
Tessa Noble (Brandon’s twin) has gone rogue. She is leaving behind her an abusive husband and the cruel family traditions that consider women to be nothing more than brood mares. It takes a strong woman to leave behind everything she has known to start a new life with a new baby in tow.
Now for our damaged hero: Rene Morin, a sensual Cajun damphyr, that not only sweeps Tessa off her feet with his cynical outlook but this reviewer, as well. I enjoyed how throughout the book he kept his part in it all real. He knows who he is and what he is capable of.
Martin Davenant (Tessa’s husband) is a loathsome member of the Brethren. I wanted him hurt a bit more than he was but I have high hopes for someone to inflict pain on him in the third installment.
Dark Hunger is full of spicy secondary characters that add a delicious flavor to the plot. I am very anxious to read the third episode, I was extremely surprised how this one ended (no spoilers here — sorry).
