Once a person enters Serene, it is only by the grace of the town founders that they might leave. Serene holds secrets that it does not want the outside world to find out. The community of supernaturals was founded over several hundred years before to keep humans from finding out about their existence. Slyck is one of the town council members and has always done his duty by the town…until Jaclyn arrives, then he feels something he has been looking for for the past nine hundred years. Jaclyn has no idea what she is in for when she arrives in Serene; she just knows she has to hide her wicked, wanton nature in order to follow in her father’s footsteps as the heir to his cosmetics empire. However, when she meets Slyck, all those thoughts of being good start to fly out the window. When she discovers her true nature, she will have to work with Slyck in order to protect herself from the town’s shenanigans.

I was really intrigued by the storyline of this book. It reminded me of a horror novel in some respects, even with the erotic theme that ran through it. A person moves into a town full of strange things and their fate is decided by the town council. Definitely has its creepy moments. But the overall story is very interesting and it keeps the reader engaged from the chemistry between Jaclyn and Slyck to the fate of Jaclyn in the hands of the council. It was interesting to watch Slyck as he dealt with putting his needs first as well, something that he had not done since the founding of the town. If you really enjoy some erotica with your daily dose of paranormal, then be sure to pick up Instinctive on your next trip to the bookstore. It is a very sexy read.
