Heart of the Highland Wolf by Terry Spear
Julia Wildthorn is willing to do almost anything to get into Argent Castle, stronghold of the MacNeill clan, even hiding her identity and her career as a romance writer to masquerade as a personal assistant on a film crew. Getting into the castle proves more difficult that Julia had first imagined, especially since Laird Ian MacNeill is opposed to the film crew roaming about his property unsupervised, but she is determined to search the entire castle, if necessary, in order to locate the rosewood box that holds the key to her future.
Laird Ian MacNeill takes his responsibilities to his pack very seriously and is definitely regretting that he ever agreed to allow this madness of a film crew onto his property. Intent on protecting his clan and property from harm, he senses Julia’s lupus garou heritage and becomes suspicious when he discovers her in his bedchamber after learning she had broken into the castle through the secret tunnels. As Ian and Julia grow closer, the tangled histories of their families become clearer, and Ian agrees to help Julia in her search for the rosewood box. Even with interference from the Sutherland clan and the unwelcome presence of the film crew, Ian is determined to claim Julia as his mate and defend her honor.
Julia and Ian’s romance quickly developed, especially after Ian’s aunt delved into the family histories and legends and discovered the two were fated to be together. I enjoyed Ian’s alpha behavior and his protectiveness and liked that Julia was no longer a lone wolf after being absorbed into Ian’s pack. I really appreciated that the author allowed the storyline to develop without hammering the reader with innumerable wolf references and side comments. This was an interesting story that easily captured my attention, and as always, I look forward to reading more about this lupus garou pack.
