Coyote Run by Rhian Cahill
Rowan and Brogan are coyote pack orphans under the leadership of a corrupt sovereign willing to force his son on Rowan to mate. The son is violent and controlling, just like his sire, and a real danger to the pack. Quinn has waited five years to claim his mate as he watched her bloom and suffer unimaginable losses and indignities. Now all three must make heart-wrenching decisions or die.
Beautifully written but even for an erotic short this feels incomplete. There’s no happy ending—in fact, there’s no ending at all. It’s more of a prologue to “the rest of the story” or a chapter to what is a very promising novella. It’s a little intriguing in set-up, drawing you in and ensuring that you postulate on what happens next. But the only climax here is in the sex-scenes. It’s like running without a finish line. Where do you put the adrenalin? What is the point of a race without a winner?
So it is an auspicious beginning, but give us more, Ms. Cahill, we can take it.
