Her Fallen Angel by Felicity Heaton
Annelie watched as Lukas downed another drink and slowly gave into lowering his head down onto the bar. The sexy man who sat and talked to her every other night while she tended bar had never had anything other than a soda, but now his tousled head tempted her to reach out and touch the soft hair and feel the pain he had obviously been trying to bury. Something had happened to him while he was away to change him, and all Annelie wanted to do was hold him in her arms and take away whatever pain he was in. Driving him home after work was the least she could do and it would give her more time to spend in company of the man of her dreams.
Lukas just had to sit with Annelie tonight. After losing his appeal to have his conviction overturned, he had lost almost everything. Accused of causing an explosion that resulted in human death and chaos—a crime that he did not commit but for which he was framed—he had no way to prove his innocence. And now they had taken away his ability to fly. And to a fallen angel, losing the use of his wings was like losing his soul. The only thing that could take away the pain was to spend some time with the sexy bartender who listened to him and touched him like no other mortal. Giving into the temptation to drink alcohol might not have been the best idea, but they hadn’t struck him down yet, and after she was done cleaning up the bar, Annelie was taking him home.
Saying goodbye after dropping him off at the door was the plan, but throwing caution to the wind, Annelie takes a chance and kisses Lukas before he can open the door. Swinging her up into his arms, they stay entwined together until morning, reveling in the magic that their love making revealed and giving them both a night to remember for life. Waking in the morning, Annelie cannot help but touch the scars on his back and wonder what pain he endured to receive so many, especially the mirrored slashes on his shoulder blades. Sensitive to her touch, Lukas is helpless when his true identity is revealed with the expansion of his wings from the scarred tissue. Scared that he had lost her forever, he explains his situation to her and hopes that she can understand. Listening to his appeal, Annelie agrees to help him out, despite her belief that she had aided in his fall from grace because of their intimacy. Heading to Paris to find a friend who can help them uncover the truth, Annelie and Lukas take a leap of faith in how they truly feel for each other when they flush out the true criminal, putting both of their lives on the line.
I really enjoy finding out about a new Felicity Heaton novel. One of the first authors I found online and one of the very first ebooks I read years ago, Felicity’s paranormal romances are always decadently delightful. This latest book is no exception. Even if we set the Angels and Demons aside, this erotic romance was exciting, arousing and devastatingly delish. Lukas and Annelie were fun and full of life as they opened themselves to accepting the love shared between them and expressing their love in a luscious and sinfully erotic treat. I recommend going back and reading Her Dark Angel first, although this book could be read as a stand alone; the recurring characters in Felicity’s book will make you hunger for Serenity and Apollyon’s tale.
