The time is 1822, and Lavoni, a Cherokee Indian, is promised to Manohar, the grandson of their Medicine Man. Lavoni has no desire for him and does the forbidden: she falls in love with a white man named Daniel. Once Manohar finds out, he commits the most grievous sins of all: murder of the white man who loved his betrothed. Once finding out she is in labor with Daniel’s son, Manohar decides to curse the child to die upon birth, knowing that by cursing the child, one day Manohar will also face the repercussions of that curse, but he is too evil to care. Lavoni, knowing this, decides to take the curse upon herself. As her son is born, her last words to her only friend are: “Take my son to my uncle, to raise and love as I would have.”
Flash forward a few hundred years, and Lucia is in the area where her father died, looking for a rumored black cougar to photograph. Like father, like daughter, Lucia is also a photographer, recently breaking off her engagement to a man who used her to get close to her father. As she is camping in the rainy forest, a naked man comes, telling her they must leave right away as the rain will cause a mudslide. Just as Lucia gives him her bag, the mountain starts to fall. Trusting a naked man with her life and her most important possessions, he takes her to his beautiful cabin. Once there, he introduces himself as Sam. Lucia feels a strange attraction to this stranger, just as Sam realizes she is his mate. What will happen when Sam tries to tell Lucia about the curse? Will she still be able to love him and what he becomes at night? Will she believe who she really is? Will she trust Sam forever?
This book was such a pleasure to read, I could not put it down until I got to the very end—and then I really wanted more! I am hoping that the authors will write more about this…like maybe a trilogy? The book is so well written and it keeps your attention at all times. It is VERY erotic, and the sex scenes leave nothing to the imagination. I have put these authors on my favorite list and look forward to reading all their other books. What a wonderful, well-written book that leaves you longing for another one!
