A Matter of Duty by Elizabeth Jewell
Piper is a human that is married to a shapeshifter who can change his entire body at will and become whomever he wants to be. She only wants him to be Trey, the man she fell in love with.
Trey is a shapeshifter that can read the surface memories on humans. Before he met Piper he would become a person that a human needed closure with. Once that was done he would move onto the next person. Now he is the leader of shifters of his kind.
The story picks up two years after A Matter of Faces. Piper and Trey are now celebrating their two-year anniversary. Before Trey and Piper were married it was understood that he would not be able to get her pregnant. He can only get another female shifter pregnant. This did not bother Piper until recently. Since Trey is the leader it is his duty to father children with the females of his kind. Neither had foreseen what problems it would create once the situation became reality. They meet with the female shifter and her human husband that have waited over three years for their opportunity and Piper cannot help but feel for them since she wants a baby, as well. She just needs to keep it a secret from Trey.
Elizabeth Jewell does it again! A Matter of Duty is a sequel to A Matter of Faces where we meet Piper and Trey for the first time. Now they have been together for two years and the fact that Trey will need to have sex with another woman becomes reality. We find out how Piper will deal with the fact that her husband will need to sleep with another woman and how she copes with that. We also see how Trey feels and what he does to cope with the situation. Both are quite surprising, but Elizabeth once again puts everything in perspective and shows us that sometimes things are quite simple.
