  13. Wendy P. says:

Finished this book a few nights ago and have also read all of her other series (Makers Song). I have to say, I loved it! Adrian Phoenix does a great job on bringing all her characters to life. I absolutely loved Kallie and Layne and can’t wait to see where they meet up in the next book!

  14. Sandy G says:

I just ordered a copy of Black dust Mambo so I haven’t read it yet.

  15. Biki says:

Ahhh, I couldn’t find it when I went to the store. I need to get to a larger bookstore I think. The one I went to had a teeny selection *sigh*

  16. And for those of you who’ve read the book – the characters will be happy to answer any questions you might have too. ;)

everyone always says this is a great series. I am off to add to my wish list at amazon. Only darn way I can remember to but it lol. It’s heck getting old.

  18. MinnChica says:

  19. Alana Abbott says:

I haven’t gotten into this series. I keep confusing Adrian Phoenix with Laurie Hadelland (whose Phoenix series wasn’t my bag). :)

  20. Beth C. says:

I haven’t read this one yet, but it is on my wish list.

  21. Rae M. says:

I just finished this book and absolutely loved it! Although I’m kind of mad because now I’ll have to wait a while for the next one.

1.The voodoo/hoodoo aspect of the book was done really well. It really goes into the grit of hoodoo and voodoo, but you don’t feel like you are lacking information or that you feel lost. I knew a little about the subject before I read the book, so I don’t know if this is clouding my judgment at all.

    2. I really like that about Kallie. I like the fact that she’s not a one-sided character. Or that she gets stuck into a mold of a characture. She’s not just some tough chick running around without a personality. She’s got more than one side to her personality. Although she does hit an awful lot of people. She should probably figure out something else to do besides counting to calm down.

    3. Favorite side character…that’s actually really hard because the side-characters are pretty well developed too. I even liked Augustine by the end and I didn’t expect to. Although I have to say I really like Belladona.

Adrian, you seriously did a wonderful job with this book. I can’t wait for the next one!

And since I have the opportuniy, I’ll just throw this question out there whether it’s Layne or even Augustine who answers.

Will we ever find out if Layne has a certain tattoo that wasn’t seen during the contest? (Had to ask!)

    • Carol M. says:

Rae, I agree that the layers of Kallie’s very being adds something very special.

I did enjoy learning about hoodoo/voodoo, subjects I don’t really know much of anything about.

  22. Hi Rae:

I’m really glad you enjoyed the book and the characters. Thanks so much! And great question. LOL!! I’ll let Layne handle that one.

Layne: I’m surprised Augustine stopped at removing my boxers – man has no sense of shame or modesty. Not when he’s in my body, anyway. *laughs* Hell, if the tables were turned, maybe I’d be just as shameless.

Will you ever find out? I’ve got a feeling you will. *winks*

    Augustine: Clang! Clang! Clang!

Layne: Nope. Keep out of it. I ain’t letting you take charge and blurt all my goddamned secrets, so quit ringing that f@#%king bell!

  26. R.E.B. says:

    1) Haven’t read this but did participate in the recent chat and am going to put it on my wish list if I hadn’t already. I do want to learn more about hoodoo and voodoo, as they are dark and light and interestingly represented in the movie The Skeleton Key. Hi again, Adrian. :)

  27. Jennifer L says:

I have this book but haven’t read it yet! (I’m so far behind on my to-be-read pile that I’ll probably die before getting them all done.)

  28. sewicked says:

Dog gone it, I have -got- to get this book.

  29. Seri says:

I love learning about new things and considering Voodoo is still one of those areas where you get a lot of misconceptions and misunderstood ideas, so it’s nice to get a new persepective on what goes on.
