The HMS Queen Mary was a known ghostly haunt of many a spirited figure, and it was the Ghost Hunters’ crew that were documenting the site for their show. Chasing down the story of two gay lovers from the past gives James more than hope that his unrequited feelings for his BFF Rick might be brought out into the open and give them a chance at finding love in the present. The unbelieving James had followed Rick for eight years in his quest to prove that ghosts exist, but it will take the aid of someone not of this world to open both of their eyes to the possibilities of a life together.
Rousing Caine by Lex Valentine
Jason Rockham found himself waking to the sound of running water and wishing that Chris would come back to bed…but Chris had been gone for a while and was not coming back; the man had taken him for thousands and a priceless painting before he screwed off out of his life. But why would a burglar be taking a shower while in the middle of a robbery? Wasn’t it bad enough that his ex had left him with next to nothing except this house which she couldn’t get her hands on anyway?
Caine Carruthers had wanted Jason for a while; in fact, that is part of the reason why he was there. When his wife had flown off the handle and shot him in the chest after finding him watching the man in the house across the way, his soul had decided not to pass on and gave him the chance to make up for his untimely death.
Showing Jason what it means to be truly loved by someone who will not screw him over for his money but will make love to him in every way possible is one of the reasons the ghostly Caine is able to come back in this form. Confessions from the ghost, although heartfelt, cause a rift that even their newly formed connection can’t repair, but with the power of love to back them, an unforeseen accident leads them to find a way to find way to bridge the gap between their worlds.
The Day They Closed the Iguana by AM Riley
Giving into the offer for the property was not something that Billy had given serious thought to because of the memories of what could have been hanging around. Seth had been a part of that life, had been the most important thing in Billy’s life, but when his life had been cut short by a drunk driver, the Iguana Theatre was all he had left. Frank had caught a glimpse of the sexy actor while in town for a conference and made himself known to him the best way he could. Billy had wanted Seth to be his first, his only, but when the sexy cowboy roped him into his bed, he knew he had to find a way to balance his life with the ghosts from his past. Giving in to the sale of the theatre and moving on is what Billy knew he must do for himself, but letting go of the property meant letting go of Seth, which would be even harder to accept.
Black Candle Reader by William Maltese
The life of a paid escort has many ups and downs, but when one begins to have blackouts following a connection with a flaming candle, he smells peculiar scents and remembers nothing. Several men round out his life, his best friend and lover Jeremy, Kenneth, a mysterious customer who shrouds his identity of being a clairvoyant himself, and Talon, an older repeat customer who regularly requests him to not only take him forcefully but also to beat him repeatedly. With the deaths of not only Talon, who leaves him his entire estate, but also an old lover of Jason by a serial killer, the black hustler does not know what to do with his life and his burgeoning abilities. When the current men in his life all end up coming together, it his new psychic ability they tap to find the answers to not only a decade’s old mass murder but a serial killer who had been preying on the men plying their trade on the streets.
This group of ghostly and paranormal tales was an interesting mix of gay erotica. My opinion as a whole is that it was a very good read for this genre. I was drawn to Caine and Jason and their tale of love more than the others as it held my attention and tugged at the heart. “Black Candle Reader”, although an interesting topic, was a very hard narrative to concentrate on with no reference to the name of the main character and with so many different characters involved in the tale; I found I was skimming back to gain incite into the many details even with it being a novella.
