Seduce Me In Shadow by Shayla Black
Seduce Me In Shadow, the second book in Shayla Black’s Doomsday Brethren series is as deliriously sexy and captivating as the first. Seduce literally is sooooo smoking hawt that the pages sizzle more and more as the story evolves.
Sydney Blair, reporter for Out of This Realm, a tabloid that focused on the paranormal and bizarre occurrences that life could not explain, could only think of one thing she wanted for her birthday: her sexy and scrumptious new photographer with some scented massage oils, nakedness and a big bed. When her assistant and friend gives her a very old leather journal, she passes on the suggestion that she use it to wish for something very close to those thoughts – just write your deepest sexual desires and the book will magically make them come true. She couldn’t do something like that, could she?
Caden MacTavish didn’t want to be a part of the magical world ever again. The transition would soon be upon him that would give him his powers, but after witnessing magic gone deadly when he was a child, he no longer wanted to have it determine his life. Coming home to England after hiding in America and joining the Marines was only temporary…until his older brother was well and healed from his mate-mourning that left him ferial. Joining the Brethren was not high on his list, but he would follow any leads that would give them knowledge that might save his brother – and that book was one piece in the puzzle that might lead to his brother’s missing mate. The sexy fireball of a reporter would not sway his decision to linger any longer than he had to on this side of the pond; a job was awaiting him in Texas, and he was going back as soon as possible.
Fighting the urge to write her desires in the book are for naught when Sydney finds herself leaving a detailed account of what she wants Caden to do to her body. The power of the journal is based upon granting females what they truly desire deep within their hearts, and the two find themselves entangled in a sexually gratifying relationship – a relationship that not only steams up the pages but also finds them fighting the attraction, getting Caden fired from his job and allowing the enemy to sneak into the position, and one that makes it hard to discredit the truth about the magic involved. Sydney and Caden find themselves in deep with the concerns of the Brethren as they fight the evil Mathais and his desire to take over the magical world and destroy the Brethren by controlling the journal. While Sydney rejoices in the fact that she is valuable to the cause and uses her journalistic creativity to bring a new perspective to the magical world, Caden still refuses to believe he wants anything to do with magic except to continue searching for his brother’s still-missing mate. When Sydney becomes the focus of Mathais and his followers, Caden must reevaluate his heart, searching for the truth behind his reluctance and finding a way to accept what he is in time to save his love from the rape and torture that Mathais threatens her with.
The Doomsday Brethren must find a way to come together for the sake of magic kind but, on the way, find that their personal sacrifices are the hardest thing to accept when life does not always end with roses and a perfect ending. This series is absolutely fantastic. It is, at times, heart-wrenching and will have you sobbing with its not-so-perfect endings but will also entertain, arouse, excite and captivate the reader from the first page till the last. I must say, this series has been moved from my TBR pile to the TBB pile as a mandatory buy for each and every forthcoming book; I am soooooo devastated that I allowed myself to miss out on these fantastic warlock warriors for so long as they sat on my shelf staring at me with disbelief that this reviewer had them within her reach but ignored them for so long. Bad, bad reviewer! Despite the fact that I obviously desired to read them so much that I had all three books purchased, I am definitely not going to mess up again when it comes to a Doomsday Brethren book.
