Pleasure is the third book in the Shadowdwellers series by Jacquelyn Frank. It actually contains the story of Sagan finding his mate and the story of Malaya and Guin. Malaya is one of the Chancellors of the Shadowdellers and, as such, has responsibilities to her people. When the Senate forces her to a decision to marry, she must contemplate how she can turn those demands to her advantage. Additionally, she must be on guard for her life from a power hungry dweller who is determined to destroy not only her but Sanctuary as well and grab all that power for herself. Guin has been able to put aside his feelings for Malaya for fifty something years, but the demands of the Senate prove to be too much for him to bear, and he cannot agree with Malaya sacrificing herself on the altar of her people for an arranged marriage. But how can he prove that this would be the wrong approach for her to take while trying to protect her from the evil that surrounds her?

I had eagerly awaited the story of Malaya and Guin from the very first book in the Shadowdweller series. The sparks had flown even then, and I was impatient to find out about their attraction for each other. Guin had admitted his, but Malaya had no clue that is what he wanted and, when he admits it, she has to face her feelings for him. I was not disappointed with the book in the least. It was all I had expected and more. Guin and Malaya each have a volatile personality and each of them struggles to give in even a little bit, so watching their relationship is like watching a game of tug of war. Add to that the suspense and intrigue as they search out the evil forces of influence and you have a fantastic addition to the Shadowdweller series.

The storyline in this book is a continuation of the storyline found in the first two books, so this cannot be read as a standalone. But if you’re looking for a series with steamy romance, mystery and intrigue, then be sure to add this series to your collection today. Ms. Frank’s writing style is exciting and gripping, and you will be enchanted with each turn of the page.

Book Excerpt: “Discipline. Penance. Order. A Sanctuary priest’s life revolves around such things. But when Sagan is taken captive and thrust into the Alaskan wilderness, he encounters a woman who challenges his faith and his self-control. Valera is a natural born witch who almost lost herself to the lure of dark magic. By rights, Sagan should shun her, but convention will count for nothing in the face of a passion that could change the world of the Shadowdwellers forever…As Chancellor of the Shadowdwellers, Malaya’s first duty is to her people. Her bodyguard, Guin, knows this only too well. For tradition’s sake, Malaya must marry, and the thought of this lush, vibrant, woman in a loveless union is impossible for him to bear. Guin loves Malaya – not as a subject loves his queen but as a man craves a woman. And even if he cannot keep her, he’ll show her everything she stands to lose…”
