My Reaper’s Daughter by Charlotte Boyett-Compo
Reaper First Class Glyn Kullen thought he was having a bad day, after putting his beloved horse down. What he didn’t know was things were about to get a whole lot worse and better as well. He meets the lovely Mystery Butler and her charming young daughter Valda, and his heart is instantly theirs. Despite his deepest efforts to fight his feelings of love and devotion to them, he ends up back on their porch step just when he’s needed most.
This is book six in the Western Wynd Series by Ms. Boyett-Compo. It is a mixture of sci-fi and paranormal. While I made the mistake of not starting from the beginning of this amazing series, this was still an excellent stand-alone read. However, I would highly recommend starting at the beginning so all of the elements of the Reapers are clear.
The Reapers are shapeshifters who come from other worlds. They need to drink blood for sustenance, and each one can shift into a different animal or their wolf form. This particular book also featured a lot of voodoo and zombies… needless to say it is a busy storyline!
The author clearly has done her research on voodoo rituals and history and I commend her for that. There is humor, sorrow, plenty of lust and tons of action packed into My Reaper’s Daughter. I am looking forward to going back to the beginning and reading the rest of the books in this series.
Book Excerpt: “Alone in the middle of the desert after being forced to put down his beloved horse, waiting for a stage that was late, Reaper Glyn Kullen is hot and tired and having one of the worst days of his life. Miserable, lonely, he is not in the best of moods when he climbs into the stagecoach to find a young woman and her daughter staring back at him. Mystery Butler has no fear of the infamous Reaper. His dark good looks and amber eyes hit her hard for she can see the pain in those mesmerizing orbs and it mirrors her own. When her six-year old daughter strikes up a conversation with the lawman, she sees a sad, fleeting smile on the shapeshifter’s face that melts her heart.
Widowed, Mystery is on her way to the plantation that is home to her brood of siblings. She never expects the Reaper to follow her but when she opens her door to find him standing there, she knows her life has changed forever. While five of his fellow Reapers are in the Western Territories battling a new threat from the Ceannus, Glyn is attacked by three different forces of pure evil intent on stealing his immortal soul and turning him into a mindless slave of black magic. Can the love of a good woman save the Reaper from being destroyed or will he be plunged into the Abyss? “
